A Fathers Greatest Fears - Part Two

Posted on Fri Mar 13th, 2020 @ 8:20pm by Division Admiral Thomas Lasky & Post Captain Plataea "Phantom" Lasky

Mission: Mission 91: The Sum of All Fears
Location: ACSF Noble - High Orbit over B Kayor.
Timeline: 1700Hrs, August 15th, 2392

Commander Tom Lasky regarded Plataea as she had shared the news that she had been carrying his child now she the better part of a few weeks and she had simply said. 'Suprise.' Plataea did take care to reassure him that she wasn't carrying the same issues that Torilla did and her children are all medically in fine shape.

As the appointed time came and went, the two were back in Noble's hospital and standing before Anzan again. "So.. Doc. Hows things?" Lasky paused as he waited for the list of his failings as a father.

"It's a good thing we are catching this now," Anzan answered solemnly. He then held out the report, "Kurt has Down Syndrome, as well as a predisposition for breast cancer and THD. But with immediate genetic therapy, these conditions can be removed."

Lasky accepted the PADD. "So there are issues with him. I had a feeling something wasn't right, his face looked oddly puffy and he's not crawling around." he paused as he read the report.

Plataea interrupted, she saw that Lasky needed a moment. "So, will you be treating Kurt? and when?"

Anzan then explained. "Well, the down syndrome is the cause of an extra chromosome causing problems with cellular development. I can quickly configure nanoprobes to fix the issue by removing that extra defective chromosome, which will allow him to develop normally from this point onward, and since he is an infant, that means fewer cells to repair. And there is no need to replace defective DNA, so a chromosome removal procedure at his age should take no more than a month. The cancer vulnerability and THD predisposition is something that is going to be more complex to remove, but it can be done, thanks to your DNA. I'd say, within three months Kurt will be free of all these conditions."

Plataea nodded. "That sounds lovely." she grinned at him. "When do we start my little adorable?"

Lasky smiled as he read the report.

"Downes syndrome treatment can start right away," Anzan explained, "I am already having the treatments being prepared, He is scheduled to undergo several more preliminary exams tomorrow, and if everything checks out, he will get his first treatment in a week. However, the genetic repair of the other two syndromes requires about a month of prep time, as we have to analyze your DNA and then figure exactly how to apply it."

Plataea smiled. "Acceptable. Do not feel you must rush your work Doctor. Whatever it takes." she answered. "I will make sure that Kurt and his father, are well."

Anzan passed Plataea a look. "Honestly, what Tom, Torilla and her children need the most is emotional support, because right now, that is the worst part of this whole situation. Aside from Torilla, the success chance for all of them is well above 98%."

Plataea nodded. "I can do that easily," she answered with a smile. "I've been helping all of them with recent events, from Torilla dying to Torilla being alive and in an android body to this," she answered quietly. "These are not my children but they are mine, they've been mine since the moment I met them and they will always be mine. Same as my children are hers." Plataea explained. "Torilla and I are the same people, we've just got a few differences between us. But I'm cuter."

Lasky nodded as he processed that detail, a gentle smile crossed his face. "Come on. Let's get out of here and let the medics go to work," he commented softly.

Plataea regarded Lasky with a simple look. "Yes. We'll be back later Anzan. I want to see what the leisure facilities are like and Tom here hasn't eaten lunch yet. We'll be back in four hours to pick up Kurt. You good with that?"

Anzan nodded" Yeah."

Lasky nodded as Plataea smiled as she gently guided him out the door. "Come on handsome. Let's go take Kurt home and get him settled," she commented as she regarded Lasky. "This really bugs you, doesn't it?" she said in a gentle and soft tone.

"Yes, it does."

"Well don't worry, the medics are the best we have and we're gonna get this sorted out. Torilla and her kin are in the best of paws." Plataea grinned at him. "It's gonna be okay Tom. We are gonna get this sorted out forever."

"If we can't find alternate DNA then this endeavor is worse than worthless."

"That's obvious. I'm Halanan but not from this reality. I don't have their issues, my Halanan history didn't have the last world war that they had in this reality. My genome is far less damaged then the Torilla who's native to this reality."

Lasky walked beside her. "How do we get there?"

"Well, we have the USS Dragon, My little Delta Flyer that I left in April Yamaguchi's care over on Starbase 12. I'm going to go and visit her and request my ride back. Then we can bring her here and then... We do whatever it takes to end this. Agreed.?

"Whatever it takes," Lasky responded quietly.
