Lieutenant Commander Elizabeth Yamaguchi-Solusar sighed softly as she regarded the display before her. "This makes no sense," she commented. "But then I'm no expert in this field." as she shifted her attention to the younger woman in the room with her. She held a PADD in her delicate looking fingers and she wore a frown on her face. On the PADD was the DNA information regarding her unborn baby that she had been working up for Doctor Paris since Doctor Fordring had recommended that she do so.
Lieutenant Kadian Paris nodded her head. "Yeah, I can see that you have issues on your plate Doctor, so what is it that you need from me.?" Paris inquired of the larger female before her.
"I know I'm asking a great deal of you but could you go through my child's genetic code for me, find out if there are any issues I need to know about," Yamaguchi-Solusar answered quietly as she handed the PADD in her hands to the younger female before her. "I came prepared."
"Okay," Paris answered. "Due to recent events, a lot of people have been making this demand of me of late, thanks to that psionic episode." the younger female explained before she huffed a sigh. "I'll get started on yours once I'm finished with Tienn Nerra's baby."
"Wait, she's pregnant again?" Yamaguchi-Solusar inquired, as a smile appeared on her lips.
"No, she just had her baby. But you did not hear that from me," Paris answered with a glare as she regarded the taller female next to her. "But yes. Tienn just has her child."
"That's wonderful news. For her anyway." Yamaguchi-Solusar answered. "So while you are working for me, is there anything I can help you with?"
Paris regarded Yamaguchi-Solusar in silence for a moment before she produced a half dozen PADD's. "I have one prenatal checkup, one case of someone with broken bones, needing a checkup before he can resume his duties." Paris sighed softly as she paused, the way she did so told Yamaguchi-Solusar a great deal with almost nothing at all. "Three coming aboard physicals and one physical for a retiree."
"Alright, consider them all handled." Yamaguchi-Solusar smiled. "Thank you, Kadian."
"No, thank you, Doctor. Now I can breathe." Paris smiled, for the first time in several hours.
"Breathing is good, I know how it feels to be crushed underweight," Yamaguchi-SOlusar answered with a gentle smile. "If you could alert the front desk that these six cases have been moved from you, over to me and I'll be the one handling them." the tall female answered with a smile. "Then we're in business."
"Thanks, Elizabeth." Paris smiled as she quickly gave the PADD the once over. "This looks complete, I will start right away."
"No worries Kadian. If you have this issue again, come and see me alright. There is no need to suffer when you shouldn't have to. If you are feeling overloaded then someone else isn't pulling their weight." Yamaguchi-Solusar explained with a smile. "I learned that on the Roanoke. It was... Educational."
"I read about that ship, I wasn't assigned there for very long before I was removed due to combat losses," Paris answered. "If you don't mind my asking, what did you see during that Psionic event?"
"I saw pain, death and my son growing up without his mother or his father. His aunt took him in and my family was shattered as a result, many left the Starfleet and settled here, they had a lot of good memories and some bad ones." Yamaguchi-Solusar paused. "Meeting my son as a middle-aged adult was an experience I doubt I'll ever forget," she admitted. "I had reconciled myself to the fact that I was stuck thirty years out of time... Then when the experience ended, it was all an illusion but I remember everything."
Paris listened in silence while she nodded. "I understand."
"Robert is psionic, like me and he shared his life story with me. He was.. many things... But he didn't have a family of his own. I think he was scared of having something happen to them like what happened to me, I simply disappeared. Poof, into the cosmic abyss. no sign of me anywhere."
"Nothing at all?" Paris inquired.
"No," Yamaguchi-Solusar answered. "It was after I miscarried this little one, I also didn't mourn which was odd in itself. That is why I come to you now."
"Ahh. I take it Galiaan couldn't find anything and you want an experts touch?" Paris answered with a nod, she gently touched Yamaguchi-Solusar's hand with her own. "We'll find out if there is anything wrong here," she added.
"Precisely yes," Yamaguchi-Solusar answered. "So what did you see?"
"I was in high school... I... I think." she paused. "The place was incredibly primitive. I think it was on Earth but I can't be sure..." she paused. "I was part of a dance competition. I was on my way home and I got jumped by three men. I was very nearly raped when dad showed up. He destroyed those three. What was odd was the casual racist comments they tossed at me and at each other. Something about how I don't care how white your mama was."
Yamaguchi-Solusar raised an eyebrow. "That does sound odd... Considering my mother is black and my father is white."
"I know," Paris answered as she shook her head. "Anyway, dad also mentioned how he was a reserve captain in the U.S. armed forces." she paused. "U.S. I assume that's a reference to the United States." she sighed. "This is what happens when one was not born on Earth and didn't see Earth until she was an adult."
Yamaguchi-Solusar smiled. "Yeah, it was much like that with myself and my small army of family members. Dad was really the last Yamaguchi to set foot upon Earth. I didn't see Earth until I went to the medical academy there and Rachael has still never seen Earth with her own eyes, she considers it a bland a dull ball of rock. Her words, not mine." she paused. "Well I should let you get back to work or neither of us will get any work done."
"Yeah, ain't that the truth. I'll drop by your office to deliver these PADDs once I finish with them and I'll get the results of my work back to you soonest okay?" Paris responded evenly.
"Okay, that sounds good to me." Yamaguchi-Solusar answered with a gentle smile on her lips, and with that, she took her leave of Doctor Paris a moment later so the two of them could go to work.
