"Didn't your mom like to paint?" Orthos suddenly cut in.
"She did. She's not painted anything in years." Melody responded quietly. "I'll ask her, the next time I see her."
"What do you mean by 'she gave up on the sciences'?" Daisy asked. "Did she give up a job a scientist to join Star Fleet?"
"No, mom was going to join as a science officer, well science enlisted as she loved looking at stars, the infinite expanses of space and time as she called it." Melody explained.
"So that's what she meant," Orthos said very quietly. At the puzzled look from Melody, he decided to explain. "Talon once said that she loved to listen as the astral winds sang to her." he slowly smiled. "She turned into a tactical officer with death on her mind."
"So, she threw away her dreams?" Daisy asked.
Melody nodded. "She did. She wanted vengeance so she put everything else aside to focus on that. This is what led her to where she is now, with all the twists and turns, roadblocks, pitfalls, and issues." she sighed. "It led her to Dad, to her first and second husbands, it also led her to all of her children, Noel and me." she then smiled. "It also led her to Marie."
Orthos raised an eyebrow. "Who's Marie.?"
"Your other daughter who is also mom's youngest." Melody stopped as she noted the look on her fathers face. "She didn't tell you..." Melody said in a flat tone.
"Excuse me." and with that, Orthos turned off the flattop and went into the next room, in silence.
Melody watched him go in silence before she let out a sigh. "Way to go, mom, you did it again." she turned to Daisy. "Can I ask you a personal favor?"
"Um...Okay." Daisy replied. "I'm not sure I know when I can get to it while your father is upset but I'll try."
"If I ever pull anything this level of stupid." Melody regarded the other woman. "Shoot me. Kay?" she inquired.
"Why are you stupid? It was your mother that decided to keep the secret, not you." Daisy replied.
"No. I mean if I ever do anything this stupid." she paused. "If I become pregnant then I'll inform Dad quietly over dinner." she paused. "Not have you guys find out from someone else... I use that as an example though."
"Don't blame yourself for this. I would have assumed my father knew about my sister too." Daisy told her.
"No," Melody answered. "I hate being the one to tell people. Mom shafted me with this one and she didn't tell Dad about Marie." she let out a sigh. "Mom could always cause unbelievable amounts of trouble when she put her mind to it."
"Did your mother not tell your father because she wanted to create drama or do you think she was just too apprehensive about telling Orthos he had another daughter?" Daisy asked.
"I think its the latter," Melody answered in a quiet tone. "To be honest. Marie is my full sibling, not like Perea or Othello who aren't." she sighed softly. "I thought mom told dad about her," she added a moment later, anger coloring her tone.
"Try not to be angry at your mother. It isn't easy telling someone news they may not want to hear." Daisy tried to comfort Melody.
Melody regarded Daisy for a moment in silence. "I don't know Daisy." she huffed a soft sigh. "I know mom''s husbands other two adult children will like you. Sammy and Monique." she paused. "I wish mom would stop making stupid mistakes."
"That's one thing about family, no matter how much we want them too we cannot control their behavior," Daisy told her.
Melody regarded Daisy as she held her own child, in silence for a moment. "Yeah, your right. I can see why Dad's other kids speak so highly of you. Even Greatmother T'Sara spoke highly of you and she has a hard time saying anything nice about anyone. Uncle Karass said something about how he liked you. A truly shocking statement from that tortured soul." she paused. "I guess you impressed someone in this giant family I call my family." the younger woman smiled.
"Thank you, Melody." Daisy glowed in Melody's praise. "Your smart and from what I know of you a kind person. I think you'll honor your family well."
Melody smiled. "I hope so." just then the door opened and out came Orthos, he looked like his usual self but Melody, however, knew better. "She didn't take it well, did she?"
"Am I that obvious?" Orthos inquired in a gentle tone.
"No, but I'm your daughter," she commented. "I also know why, so you called mom and yelled at her."
"Yes and no," Orthos answered. "I more or less inquired if it were true about Marie, she told me honestly that it was, she also told me why she didn't tell me to start with."
Melody raised an eyebrow. "Oh. What did she say?"
"She said she did not wish to cause issues with my marriage to Daisy here and she didn't wish to cause you more issues."
