Mission:
Mission 82: It Is War’s Prize to Take All Vantage.
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1930Hrs - April 25th, 2392
Rachael Yamaguchi-Cullen was wearing a simple t-shirt and a pair of shorts, she wanted to get as far away from her uniform as she could get before she sat down at the workstation she had in her quarters that she shared with her husband. "Computer, connect me to the Starfleet families base on B Kayor. I want to talk to Sarah Cullen and her siblings."
The computer's response was prompt. "Working. Please stand by."
The signal connected through the various booster relays as Rachael found herself face to face with a woman wearing a Starfleet uniform, it was a teal color which didn't mean much to Rachael herself. "Hey. I'm Rachael Yamaguchi... USS Roanoke and I'd like to talk with my children. If that could be arranged" She paused. "Their names are Saki Yamaguchi and Sarah Cullen.."
"Of course warrant. Give us a few minutes and it'll be arranged." the Lieutenant responded. "I'll need to stick you on hold, however."
"Sure," Rachael answered before she was stuck on hold, the screen went black as a result, as she settled in to wait. Rachael was very good at waiting as it was a skill she had honed while on alert fifteens and while sitting around in engineering. A smile graced her lips as she considered her ability to sit around and do nothing for extended periods of time when suddenly the screen activated again and she found herself face to face with only one of her children.
Rachael smiled as she regarded Sarah Cullen, her daughter via her husband. "Hey, sweetie... Hows things with you?"
Sarah regarded Rachael. "Well. I'm alright... Saki is good... When one can pry her away from her martial arts training, that is.... She lives and breathes it... She said something about wanting to hurt scary scalies for taking mom and dad away... But I assume that Saki being herself. Daniel is asleep at the present time, he has the cats with him." Sarah explained.
Rachael regarded Sarah in silence, for she knew exactly why Saki was angry and what was bothering her. "I figured Saki would be upset... I knew that was coming when I signed on for this job sweetie."
"I'm worried about her, mom." Sarah sighed. "She's wanting me to try it but...It looks like something I wouldn't enjoy." she paused. "Much like you and surfing."
"Well, that's because I didn't give it enough of a try... So I'll be trying again sweetie." Rachael smiled. "Maybe I can figure out how your dad enjoys it.."
"Okay," Sarah responded. "Will Saki be trying again?"
Rachael regarded Sarah, a gentle smile playing at her lips. "Well. I was going to leave it to Saki's interest. I'm not going to nag her... But I'll mention it anyway... Saki might surprise me." the older woman explained.
Sarah nodded her head, mostly in understanding. "Okay. I guess... Anyway, the cats are doing good... and so are all of the other kids present... I had no idea you had so many relations, Rachael."
"Yeah. What can I say?" Rachael responded with a smile. "My great-grandparents are the common ancestors of every Yamaguchi present where you are staying sweetie." as she let out a sigh. "I can only imagine how many of us there will be fifty years from now... or a century from now.." Rachael shrugged her shoulders. "Who knows.."
Sarah heard what Rachael was saying before she paused. "I have no idea.," she answered honestly before she heard someone approach her, she turned her head. "Ahh. Here's Saki."
Rachael regarded her daughter as Saki slid into a chair next to Sarah. "Hey, mom." Saki was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top, she was also drenched in sweat, also she sounded nearly out of breathe. Clearly, she had been running.
"Hey, sweetie. How's life?"
"I'm alright mom," Saki responded. "I. I think I am anyway.." she paused as the nine-year-old child slowly commented. "I miss being home," Saki added. "The cats are okay and I'm being good. I think.."
Rachael instantly began to wonder what was going on. "You think sweetie?" she inquired but she did so slowly.
"The people here are... Well, not you or Dad.." Saki responded. "Someone tried picking a fight with me and Warrick but... T'Pamsu and Kodian broke it up.. Warrick wasn't too happy about it... and I got to meet Miranda and Julia... Aunt Heathers eldest two.." she paused. "Mom, how many relations do we have?"
"Oh, at least three dozen." Rachael paused. "Dad has one brother and four sisters," she explained. "All have at least three, some have as many as five.. and that's just grandma Rachael's side of the family... Great Uncle John had four children, all are married with at least four children each."
"Oh my," Sarah responded quietly.
"Yes... Ummm yes, people have been productive." Saki added with her usual trademark humor.
Sarah turned. "What?"
"Saki's upbringing was always unusual Sarah," Rachael responded instead of Saki who was trying to figure out exactly how to explain how she knew these things. "She was raised in a cave so we didn't always have the best ways to raise a young child..."
Saki simply nodded. "Sometimes I miss it. Y'know... skinning meat, cooking food and collecting sticks for firewood. Very simple and to the point."
Sarah found she had no words to say anything at this point.
Rachael smiled. "Saki wasn't exactly bored. Oh no, she had a lot of time for herself... So long as she wasn't stupid about things.." he explained. "She had clothing to wear, mostly to keep warm and the like."
"I still miss my furrs," Saki added, almost as an afterthought.
"So... go replicate yourself some fur clothing... Just don't be stupid about it." Rachael responded. "Sarah. Could you look after that?"
"Mmm... Oh, sure mom." Sarah responded quietly.
"You okay sweetie?" Rachael inquired of Sarah.
"Yeah. I wish this were all over."
"I hear ya. I do too," Rachael responded with a smile. "I never expected to go to war... This suddenly or this dramatically.." as she sighed. "Girls. I have to go... I can't be on long as I'm in a warzone and I'm needed elsewhere... We'll talk more soon okay?"
"Okay, mom." as Saki got up and turned to go. "Come on Sarah. We need to go eat..."
"Yeah... Bye, mom." and with that Sarah hopped off of the chair she was sitting in before she followed after Saki. Rachael meanwhile had already hung up as she sighed, she knew she was tired and needed some time to herself.
