Slight Detour: Rachael and Ennis

Posted on Tue Mar 10th, 2020 @ 3:42am by Commander Ennis Cullen & Lieutenant JG Rachael "Ripcord" Yamaguchi-Cullen

Mission: Mission 79: Sound Trumpets! Let Our bloody Colors Wave
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1800Hrs - April 15th, 2392

Warrant Officer Rachael Yamaguchi was tired, she was tired after finishing most of her shifts considering the badly damaged state of the USS Roanoke and some of her crew, the ship was already considered a write-off and as a result, many were now considering reassignment elsewhere in the Federation.

Rachael knew that Roanoke wouldn't be around much longer as she slipped off her boots and then her uniform jacket, the first she left by the door and the latter over one over the main chairs in her quarters. She let out a soft sigh while the doors opened and in walked her husband who honestly looked like he had just come from an old fashioned slaughterhouse, his uniform was ruined and soiled with blood. "Hey." he greeted his wife.

"Ennis. You look like crap..." Rachael regarded her husband in a light tone as she gently nodded her head at the same time too. "That vein in your forehead is flaring again... rough day?"

"Same as any other... mostly treating Gorn casualties. But also some of our own too.." the Doctor sighed softly. "We got reinforced today with several hundred more people so we can at least cut back on the extreme hours we've been working recently." but Ennis was still exhausted and nothing would cure that outside of rest or sleep.

Rachael indicated the bedroom. "I need to change... I feel filthy and... so do you." as a grin appeared on her lips. "Come on, husband of mine.."

"I feel abused.." Ennis responded in his dry Irish accent which really came out considering his exhaustion.

"Don't worry. I won't do anything overly abusive.. or cruel.." as she gave him that 'come hither' look over her right shoulder. "Come on." as she led him into the bedroom.

She then peeled off all of her clothing before she tossed it all into the replicator, underwear and all, she then recycled it down to its constituent atoms.

She turned as she stood naked before her husband, she knew she stank of sweat and burnt metal. "Oh, just another shift in the hell that passes as Roanoke's engineering section."

Ennis agreed with her, as he recycled his own clothing, minus rank pips, and combadge, which he then set his double solid pips next to his wife's single black pip. "I miss our children.."

"I know... I miss Saki's banter and Sarah's concern... Its. too quiet.." Rachael responded. "Come on. We need a shower and... we need to clean up." the small female let out a sigh and it was clearly not what she wished to say on the subject. "Let's enjoy what time we have before they call you back to the grinder."

Ennis led his wife into the bathroom before he closed the door behind her. An hour went back before the door opened again, both of them were feeling much better as Rachael smiled. "Now that was impressive."

"I'm surprised I lasted so long.," Ennis admitted in a soft tone of voice.

"Exhaustion?" Rachael inquired with a grin on her face.

"Frustration," Ennis responded as he began donning new clothing.

"Oooh," Rachael responded with a soft chuckle. "Well I'm glad I was able to cure it via other means.."

"I wasn't expecting you to want to try something new in regards to sex. but I'm game if you are.." Ennis commented to his wife.

Rachael chuckled softly. "Well, I have it on excellent authority that I suck at it."

Ennis raised an eyebrow. "Do I dare ask who told you this?"

"Well. My sexual resume is... sadly rather small." Rachael explained as she went into the bedroom in naught but her skin. Her husband followed as they both began to don a new set of clothing each.

Rachael sighed softly while she went out into the main room of the quarters she shared with her husband. Evidence of the children that shared their lives was sadly everywhere including a hole in the wall with a tennis ball stuck fast, it had become embedded there once upon a time when Saki had lost her temper with her mother and the two were having a spat. Rachael had admired her daughters throwing arm and strength as the small child had given the ball a psionic shove into the wall with a rather loud bang. The event had been loud enough that the neighbors on either side and on the deck above and below, all come to find out what was going on. On the plus side, it had also scared the living crap out of both Rachael and Saki so Saki never misbehaved like that again after Rachael had explained to her the downsides of her abilities.

Rachael sighed softly. Ennis knew what his wife was thinking about as not a day went by that he likewise didn't think about it either. "Aye lass.... I hear ya."

Rachael sighed before she went into the kitchen as her home looked rather threadbare these days, anything precious she and Ennis had left behind with their children, pets and anyone who wasn't coming into battle with the Roanoke and her battlegroup.

Ennis followed his wife into the kitchen, he made his way to the replicator and ordered dinner which most nights these days was calories and not much else, mostly rations with extra sides and the like.

Rachael regarded her husband as she sat down at the table. "You sleeping okay Ennis?" she knew full well that he wasn't and she was determined to do something about it.

"I'm managing... I keep having nightmares.." Ennis admitted. "It's a woman screaming. I keep thinking it's you but... I can't be sure.."

Rachael received her dinner from her husband before she answered. "It's not me." she supplied. "Ennis. When you have your nightmares... I get them too... You seem to forget that I'm psionic, I can thank mom for that... and I spend time in your nightmares as well... but in my case, I see them like they are old home movies... and I remember with clarity what's happening. It's always the same event that unfolds."

Ennis regarded his wife. "I'm sorry Rachael.." he said quietly.

Rachael gently placed her hand over the top of his. "Don't be. I know it bothers you and I'd like to help.. If I can." she responded.

"Thanks..." Ennis paused. "You think it's Olivia?"

"I do... and I don't think you are fully over her... Oh I know I can't compare... I'm your first mate but she was your soulmate." Rachael paused. "That's not a slight against her or you. Really.."

Ennis sighed. "You are my wife Rachael. I love you."

"I know.. but you loved her too and I'm okay with that... Had I not gone through that temporal event, I'd be sixteen with an infant named I don't know... It wouldn't have been Saki... More than likely I would have named her Jillian for Phoenix." the twenty-two-year-old woman explained. "My career path has been shifted as a result of that event... and my entire life, the children we have and the career path I continue down will continue to be shaped by that event..."

Ennis regarded her as he ate his food, he nodded as his mouth was full of food.

"So... Names for children.," Rachael commented. "That's easy. If it's a boy, we'll fight for it but the first girl will be easy." she paused. "Does your family have any special naming conventions?"

"None that I know about... Why do you ask?"

"Well I was thinking of starting one... all of the children have two middle names... Like how Saki has my name and Jillian's first names as her middle names.."

"Ahh... I'm still working on the adoption paperwork for Saki. I wanted to surprise you." Ennis smiled. "Considering most of your family is here in the war with the Klingons, someone should be available.. just in case the worst should happen."

Rachael smiled. "Well consider me surprised.." she commented. "We'd best eat... time flies by fast enough as it is.." the younger woman let out a soft sigh. "Tomorrow will be present quickly enough.."

"Aye." Ennis agreed. "Come on, eat your dinner," he added in a light tone of voice.

Rachael turned her attention to her food and she began eating her meal in silence.
