"Computer Open a secure channel to the USS Shinano, I would like to talk to her squadron Commander." he paused. "Talon Yeager."
"Working. Please stand by." came the expected response
Jake Yamaguchi was seated at the dinner table while he looked at the PADD his eldest sibling had left him as a voice came over the com system, this one was softer then his wife. "Yeah Jake. Whats up?" came Talon Yeager's gentle dulcet tones.
"Talon, you got a few minutes.?." he inquired of his older sister. "Can you talk?" Jake inquired of her.
Talon Yeager raised an eyebrow as she regarded the desk mounted com unit before her, her children were off in the public bathing area along with her husband, Noel and Sammy were both with them and this gave Talon a few minutes while she had taken a few minutes to change, slip on a suit and then toss some clothing back over the top of her suit. Talon always liked swimming, it was something she was passing onto all of her children, either hers and Davijaan's.
"Yeah Jake... Whats up?" Talon inquired as she dropped her form into a chair at her rather large kitchen table while she placed her bag on the table.
"Mom's alive." Jake dropped the heavy end of the hammer on his sister's mind, this had the unfortunate effect of smashing her mind into a thick gooey paste of red matter. "WHAT!" was Talon's response. "Jake, you best not be fucking with me or I swear-" Yeager snarled before she could stop herself.
"No Talon. I am not making this up." he paused. "Have you known me to make jokes like this.." came Jake's angry response, in retrospect Talon had deserved this bollocking because Jake was the most level headed of all of his siblings. Talon included.
"Well.. No." Talon responded. "Jake... Its been a quarter of a century... How can she still be alive and no word...?" Yeager asked softly. "I don't... wait... Lemme guess?" Yeager had a horrible feeling suddenly.
"She was assimilated by the Borg and spent all this time as a drone in the Collective." Jake breathed out and then in.
Talon recognized the stalling tactic for what it was, he had bad news and she needed to prepare. "Go on Jake." she prodded him gently. "Its just me here... the kids are out with their dad."
"She's been made into a Borg Queen.. Which means fully deassimilating her is going to take awhile and that is assuming its even possible.. which I honestly have my doubts..." Jake paused as he finished what he wanted to say.
Talon paused. "Crap.." she responded in a whisper. "Ive faced the Borg... I know they do some serious damage to their drones." Yeager blinked her eyes, now heavy with unshed tears.
"Well mom is an older generation of drone.. I have it on good authority that she's got all her limbs and much of her body.." Jake explained. "I hope my knowledge is good."
Talon raised an eyebrow, she knew her younger brother couldn't see her but that wasn't the point. "Jake... What are you not... telling me..."
"She was a tactical drone... She's had most of her skeleton replaced."
"So.. that means... She can never be assimilated Jake... Federation medical science is good.. but not that good." Talon protested.
"I wanted you to know Talon.. That she is at least alive... which is better then she was three days ago.." Jake answered with a sigh.
"I was there Jake.. I was part of the assault force going to intercept the Borg cube and then I get muzzled. I have to tell you Jake that I do not appreciate being fitted with a muzzle, it doings things to my looks."
Jake smiled. "Leave it to you Talon to protest about which I can't control. You know how these imbeciles operate."
"Alas, I do all too well Jake. Where is mom now.." Talon wanted to know.
"Still on her cube that is nearby, under heavy guard in the BN Kayor system. She has a half million drones with her that are all slowly being moved off of the cube to be deassimilated slowly. We simply lack the manpower for this situation... the Cardassians are helping us with them however."
"Yes. I heard the Cardassians are assisting. I almost don't believe that." Talon's voice came back.
"They aren't the fascists we remember them to be." Jake responded. "Considering they got their asses kicked in three separate wars back to back and then having their homeworld be semi-glassed has done things to the Cardassian mindset."
"I dunno Jake.." Talon admitted. "But they seem to be wanting to get along and help us with things.. so I'll leave it be for now... Not that I could do anything about it anyway."
Jake smiled. "Yep so don't worry about it... If things go well then the Cardassians will have shown us that they are serious about helping us rather then getting in the way." he explained. "Anyway.. I have to go, I promised Torilla that I would spend time with her." Jake responded. "I've not seen my wife in too long anyway."
"Heh." Talon responded. "Have fun with that.." there was something in her tone that Yeager knew exactly of where she spoke.
"Oh but I will." Jake responded. "Goodbye Talon." and with that he hung up on her. Talon rose to her feet and after grabbing her bag with the towels, she went out the door to where he family were spending time together.
