Tienn Nerra smiled as she was seated on the sofa as she was taking her time to groom the kits, one at a time. Cr'ashar purred as he was clearly having a great time, the others had already been looked after and Balin tended to handle his own grooming. "Alittle to the left please." Cr'ashar growled in pleasure, clearly, he was loving every second of all of this.

Tienn wore a bemused look in her eye as she took care of the itch as he let out a half sigh and half growl of satisfaction. "Thank you, Ma. Much better now," he commented as Tienn finished with the grooming, he hopped off of her lap and raced off to find all of the other kits. Balin watched with a look of amusement on his face. "You enjoy it almost as much as they do."

"I do," Tienn admitted with a smile. "What's up, Balin?"

"I'm having some issues with my math homework," he admitted. "I'm trying to figure out long division."

Tienn had been somewhat expecting all of this. "Well, that's one way to do it, I sometimes find that if I can break the number down into a smaller number then I can make it work." the tall female explained.

"Makes sense, but the teacher wants us to use our brains, rather than all of our technology to help us with things," Balin explained.

"She wants to see if you're learning anything," Tienn answered. "Makes sense really, when you think about it," she commented with a smile. "Math homework is always hard to do as she wants to see you working it out, frankly, she's an idiot if she thinks you're going to do it at home, you got other things to worry about then neverending schoolwork Balin." the tall Bajoran female answered with a soft smile. "A blade that's always used goes dull fast, don't be afraid to tell others no, you want some me time."

Balin nodded his head, while he processed her statement. "Okay. I should start doing that then." he sounded uncertain in his voice.

Tienn smiled as she gently placed her hands on his shoulders. "Let me ask you, does K'taro treat you poorly when you tell him you are busy with schoolwork?" she inquired. "Does he press you into the service of House..." she frowned. "House Tienn, until a better name comes along," she explained.

"No. K'taro treats me with respect but it's not the same." Balin indicated the Klingon in the kitchen who was checking the food they needed to cook for dinner.

"Oh?. How so?" Tienn inquired as she settled in to wait for the explanation, she knew what was going to follow was going to be good.

Balin regarded the tall female before him. "K'taro is not one of my teachers. He is your mate and spouse, he is also my guardian." the large Caitian explained. "He is a much better teacher than any of my teachers, they tend to be ignorant and they do not understand me or my needs. K'taro does and he leaves me to handle my problems, while he is there to help me when I need it. You chose well mom. He is an honorable warrior and a good man, yes, you stuck platinum with him. As the humans say."

Tienn grinned as she nodded. "The humans have a lot of sayings... Shall we sit upon the ground and tell sad tales of the death of kings.?" she inquired.

"Some rise by sin and others by virtue fall," Balin answered. "For if we do not die well, it'll be a black matter for the king who leads us to it," he added as K'taro came over to his spouse and Balin.

"I heard your words Balin. I am honored you think of me that way." He told the kit.

Balin nodded as he regarded K'taro. "All true," he commented. "I never got confused with what I wanted from the truth." he answered.
"You do not insist that I learn to fight." he added. "plus you have a good singing voice, the other kits love hearing you sing." he paused. "Though I should learn how to fight, I am part of this house."

Tienn smiled as she regarded Balin, he did not seem like the same Ferasian who had come to her a year ago, just recently freed from slavery and scared out of his mind. "You are part of the house, but that doesn't mean you must learn to fight, having the outlet for the stress and the hatred will benefit you, more then the others," she explained. "I will teach you the Starfleet way."

K'taro regarded his spouse, an amused look in his eye. "I will likewise teach you as well Balin. A balanced style of both mine and Tienn's combat styles will only help you further... You may be called on to protect those who can't protect themselves, there is no finer honor then protecting others."

Balin regarded K'taro in silence for a moment. "I was half expecting you to tell me that the highest honor was to die in the name of duty."

"No. Death is so final, whereas life is so full of possibilities, for yourself, for those around you and for your future mate and children, if... you decide to have them." K'taro explained. "I think you'll make an excellent father but you need to finish developing yourself first. Remember, to look for solutions from within and not from without."

Balin smiled. "I will." he answered simply.
