Treason Exposed

Posted on Sat Mar 7th, 2020 @ 1:34am by Lieutenant Commander James O'Malley & Lieutenant Commander Edgar Burns & Lieutenant Penny Yeager & Master Chief Petty Officer Malcolm Rainier & Post Captain Plataea "Phantom" Lasky

Mission: Mission 68: Unsteady is the Head the Wears the Crown
Location: The Taharak System
Timeline: 1000Hrs - March 20th 2392

It was early morning on the USS Dusk as Commander Plataea Yamaguchi was seated in her command chair, she had permitted her crew to have a relaxed and more informal style of leadership then many would have been used to or they would have prefered, simply because of her experience in special forces so she tended to address people by name rather then rank.

"Anything out there Edgar?" she inquired with a soft smile, her eyes looking to her tactical officer who was presently seated at tactical two.

"Nadda skipper. Not a... wait a minute... I have something in a nearby system. Looks like a single older battlecrusier, holding station near the planet's forty world orbiting one of its four large moons."

Unal smiled. "Malcolm, would you mind taking us in for a closer look... Approach from under the plane and be subtle."

Lieutenant Malcolm Rainier nodded his head. "Course change made.." he commented gently as she stars wheeled around on the viewscreen.

Moments later Rainier turned his head. "Now entering the Taharak system skipper."

"Slow to impulse and take us in nice and slowly." Unal commented as she finished her drink, she rose to her feet as she went over to the replicator to recycle her drink, she then sat back down in the command chair again. Her eyes narrowed as she regarded the sensor data that was appearing on the screen before her. "Maybe I'm being paranoid..?" as the sensor display revealed not only one Negh'var but also a Vorcha, two K't'inga's and six birds of prey. The Birds of Prey were here as patrol and escort craft so they were not important.

"How so skipper?" asked Chief Petty Officer James O'Malley, an irishman who was acting as the Operations officer for this assignment.

"If I was looking for somewhere to hide... I'd pick this place.." she responded. "Look at the placement of the planet, the moons and the defense ships... There are only two ways in or out.. and we're picking the easier of the two Malcolm?"

"I decided on the harder of the two sir.." Rainier responded. "I like being unpredictable."

Unal smiled despite her mood. "Any ideas as to which house owns that ship?"

"House Kruge sir." came the unexpected answer which caused Unal to turn her head in surprise. "Thats not what I was expecting... I was actually thinking of House Makar or House Dirge." she narrowed her eyes. "What are you up to Kruge?"

The Defiant-class ship slowly moved forward into position near the more massive Negh'var class warship as Ranier turned his head. "We're as close as I dare go sir.."

"Alright, bring our passive sensors online... Lets see what's going on aboard that ship... if there is anything at all."

"I'm already on it." responded a female voice. that of Lieutenant Penny Smith who was newly assigned to this ship and mission from Starfleet Intelligence. "Wait... I found something.. I have a meeting in progress... I have a visual."

"Record it as we watch it." Unal responded as the voices and faces of six Klingons could be heard. "This has continued long enough Korgh!." You must reveal your plans to us now!" the first Klingon spoke with an emphatic tone.

The only civilian in the room was sitting back with an arrogant demeanor in his body language but suddenly he sat forward. "There is no need for you to wail like a stuck quirling."

This was met by a soft growl of indignation from the General. "I am now ready to reveal everything, including the extra support I have gained and acquired from outside the empire. " Korgh explained in a rather condescending manner.

The various other Klingons all shared various looks around the table as they leaned forward to listen carefully. "First however there is a small matter regarding security.." Korgh used his right hand and finger to help him explain his point to his audience.

The other Klingons all shared a look around the table as Korgh himself produced a communicator, he tapped it once. "Doth'Mas?.." he breathed out and then back in again. "Have you detected any signs in neutrino emissions?"

"Yessir. We are ready to execute your orders." came the response.

Unal for her part was getting a very bad feeling about this. "Malcolm, I have the feeling you are about to prove to me why I selected you for this assignment..." she said in quiet tones.

"Yessir." Rainier didn't sound too worried in the least as Korgh was telling his science officer to proceed with his orders as Korgh leaned forward to lean on the table. "During our last meeting, my previous science officer detected a strange surge in neutrino emissions, research indicated that there was a spy hovering close by this... vessel, recording and monitoring our meeting. Science officer discovered this far too late to catch the spy... But his replacement has performed his duties quite well... Would you not agree?" as the message suddenly feel apart in signal strength and quality.

"Sir they are coming about and charging weapons."

Unal nodded. "Malcolm, get us out of here... I don't care how you do it.. just do it."

"Alrighty then.." as Rainier got the Dusk moving just in time to avoid taking most of the weapons fire from the first salvo, the cloak flickered and nearly failed but the system held as the Dusk flew between two birds of Prey. As she did. Chief Petty Officer Edgar Burns dropped several homing mines out of their launchers, both of them flew straight and true before demolishing a Bird of Prey each.

"We're clear of the grav well... going to warp." as Rainier tapped the displays before him, the stars turned to starlines as the Dusk hurtled into warp away from the Taharact system.
