Mission:
Mission 66: Double Helix
Location: Tuanko Colony - Planet surface - Tienn Homestead
Timeline: 1800Hrs Local Time - Feb 27th, 2392
Tienn Jaina sighed softly before she growled softly, she knew what was coming as she lifted the damp rag to her nose and once again for the umpteenth time over the last few hours since she had come down with this bug, she blew her nose again.
Tienn sighed as she knocked on her son's bedroom door. When there was no answer she slowly pushed the door open as she beheld his sleeping form, lying on the bed. Wordlessly she closed the door as she withdrew.
Almar caught up to his wife. "You feeling okay?"
"I feel like I was stepped on... that dammed bug again."
Almar nodded his head. "Yeah... and once again, I'm immune to it." the Cardassian growled softly.
"That actually bothers you... doesn't it?"
"I can't get infected by it..." He sighed. "I've been helping out elsewhere with various things.." he sighed. "Hows Corat?"
"Sleeping.." Tienn smiled. "I still can't believe it." the older Bajoran added. "My family is alive... I never expected to see them again.... They are all in Starfleet, no less.."
"Oh relish your good news.. All of your children are still alive with families of their own.... That can never be bad news... You are reunited with your daughters..." Almar smiled down at his wife since she was a few inches shorter then he himself was.
"Well... You'' be happy to know.. Its just you and me..." Almar explained. "I just finished putting Gilora to bed... Lonar was not wanting to get out of bed from this morning so I simply didn't try... He knows he's sick.." he then shrugged.
"Imagine that... out son is well behaved while sick... of we could only get him to behave when he's well.." Tienn sighed softly. "What about Ulani?"
"Ulani is a little princess... She went to bed an hour ago.. she took the dogs with her..." The Cardassian responded. "Come on... off to bed with you." Almar smiled at his wife.
Tienn sighed. "Alright.." she turned and made her way into the bedroom. "You not joining me?"
"You are sick. It wouldn't be right." Almar responded with a gentle smile. "Even though you are clearly eager... No. I will behave and restrain myself."
Tienn sighed dramatically. "Alright... I'll go to bed... and get some sleep." she responded. "What will you be doing?"
"Enjoying the subset that we should have enjoyed together." Almar responded evenly.
Meanwhile three people were walking up the dirt road towards the Tienn farmstead, one of those was Tienn Ezas, the second was Tienn Kerris and the third was Tienn Nerra.
"You think they will be happy to see us?" Nerra inquired of her older and much more massive sibling.
"I do actually.. Considering what we went through for this dammed cure." Ezas responded with a soft sigh. "Hows things with you and .... Whats his name again?"
Nerra growled. "You just don't like Caitians.."
"Its not that I dislike him... but... you could-"
"Do not finish that sentence woman..." Nerra snarled at her sister. "You have no right to walk and judge me for seeing someone outside of my own species... considering you shacked up with a Capellan."
"By the Prophets..." Ezas sighed loudly. "Fuck woman.. I'm sorry I asked.." Ezas responded with a soft growl.
"At least have the decency to remember Greyscarr's name... Considering you hate the man." Nerra snapped at her sibling.
Kerris finally spoke. "Alright thats enough you two." her tone brooked no argument on any level whatsoever. "Seriously.... So you two dislike who the other is seeing... That doesn't mean we need to go to war about it."
"She doesn't like Caitians.." with the rebuttal coming in quickly. "She hates my husband."
Kerris sighed. "No Ezas. You misunderstand... You can't remember his name because he's not important to you." she responded. "Nerra stop taking it so personally... and do you have issues with Neban?"
"No." Nerra answered. "I never had an issue with the man..." she then gave her larger sibling a rather evil glare. "His spouse on the other hand..."
Ezas sighed. "I've never met Greyscarr... Maybe you should introduce us..?"
"I will.... Later." Nerra responded. "Assuming I decide you are-"
"Stop it you two!" Kerris finally blew a fuse as her temper melted down with violent force. "Do your children ever misbehave like this?"
"No.." Ezas responded
"So... why are you two acting like children on the matter.?" Kerris demanded. "You two have not said one civil word to each other all day... now what's really pissing you two off?"
Ezas was the first to respond which was a surprise. "Thinking of what happened to Iteela."
Kerris knew exactly what had happened to her younger sister while she nodded her head. "You blame yourself?"
"I shouldn't... but I'm a Commander in the medical corps... I could have sought harder for a solution for her."
"No you couldn't." Kerris responded quietly. "I checked myself.. I even had Suvek here helping me with various details... and even he checked with his own contacts... There is no cure for what Iteela faced then and faces now."
Ezas knew all of this as a soft sigh escaped her lips. "Still.."
"You're being unreasonable to yourself.." Kerris assured her twin. "You can't fix everything... and Iteela is in excellent hands... She'll bounce back.."
"No... she won't.." Nerra responded softly. "You know that.." she reminded the other two. "She is your sister but she is a part of me... she is my twin." Nerra explained quietly "Greyscarr understands this. He and I already had this chat... You know that twins share a special connection.. I felt her pain."
Ezas found she had no answer for this as the small gathering reached their destination. An older Cardassian male stood before the gate as he regarded the foursome with a gentle smile. "A lovely day for a walk.... don't you think?"
"Yes." Ezas smiled sadly.
"Come then. I won't keep you any longer." Almar Pettar responded. "Did you have any luck with your quest?"
"Yes." Ezas responded, she smiled tightly which was an indication that something was wrong.
"Fine work everyone." Pettar responded. "I have food and drink available should you desire a warm meal." the Cardassian smiled. "Please.. help yourself.."
"That would be heavenly... How is everyone?" Kerris inquired.
"Sick." was the expected answer. Ezas was not disappointed and nor was she surprised. "Kerris." she tossed her twin a hypo. "You go handle their children... I'll look after mom."
Nerra nodded. "I'll be wanting a look at your water treatment area... If thats alright,." she said to Almar, he nodded. "Right this way." the Cardassian nodded as he turned back to the house.
The small gathering entered the large farm house, Ezas went left and up a flight of stairs as Kerris followed her twin. Nerra followed Almar Pettar into the basement where the water treatment area was located.
"Did you guys have an argument"? Pettar inquired. "I know its none of my concern but.... I can tell something is bothering you."
"Yes... I was thinking of my twin." Nerra admitted honestly. "I'm sorry.. I've never encountered a Cardassian who is an honest nice guy... I owe you an apology.."
"You owe me nothing Miss Tienn. Pettar regarded her with a gentle smile. "Besides.. your mother told me what happened... How is she doing?"
"She's ... recovering but its slow going... She's been on Vulcan the last while but now she's back in the fleet and on active duty again... but.. she still has some issues... Nightmares and the like.." Nerra explained.
"I understand." Pettar responded softly. "Here we are.." as he accepted her toolkit which she handed to him, she pulled off the cover. "Yep... I thought so." she responded. "The water cleaning system is partly to blame for this bug."
"I didn't know." Pettar sighed softly. "Lovely."
"Its not anyone's fault. The system just wasn't built to cope with the rich single celled life on this world." Nerra smiled. "Fortuitously, a simple modification will cure that notion." the small Bajoran grinned at him, in that moment she looked exactly like her mother.
"Thats great news... Sounds like you guys fixed everything..." Pettar decided to go all in. "Except the harsh words the three of you said to each other."
"It happens.." Nerra waved it away
"It still bothers you." Pettar regarded her.
Nerra nodded. "Yes.. Ever since Iteela was nearly left comatose, I've been feeling like I lost something. I don't know how to explain it..."
"The mysteries of life can't simply be explained away, your twin and you came from the same egg at the same time." Pettar explained with a gentle smile. "You and Iteela are connected on a level that its hard for most to even imagine let alone put into words... For you are a part of her and she is a part of you." Pettar smiled as he watched her work, she was quick about her modifications then she sealed the water pumping station back up. "This should remain like this for the next ten years... I'll upload the parts and technical specs to the colony's mainframe and I'll see to it that the colony has several dozen new water filtration and pumping stations up to the new specs before we leave." Tienn explained with a smile.
"Thank you Nerra."
"Thank you... for giving mom a life worth living... and for the chance to know my mother again." Nerra looked up at him. "We all thought she was dead, myself included yet Iteela never gave up.."
"Your mom is the best thing thats ever happened to me." Pettar responded. "Without her I shudder to wonder where I would have ended up. But she was worth it... ending my career and spending my life in the Federation..." he paused. "The Cardassian Union says the Federation is their greatest enemy but that is incorrect. The Federation is Cardassia future...."
"I never expected to ever hear a Cardassian say those words." Ezas responded as she came around the corner. Kerris behind her.
"Yes... if Cardassia wants to thrive and prosper then it would do so as part of the Federation... Then Cardassia can unlock her true potential." he paused as Ezas gently injected him with the medication. "Everyone gets it. no exceptions.... Sorry."
"Its good to feel included for a change." Pettar joked.
The three women chuckled softly as he added. "Come on then, let me cook you guys a real home cooked meal and we can share a few stories before duty steals you away from me." Pettar responded with a smile. "I've been sitting around and the kids will be ravenous when they wake... Besides.. Its the least I can do for you guys...
"That would be great." Ezas responded.
Suvek nodded. "May I assist you?"
"I'd welcome it..." Pettar responded. "You all... will have a place here if you ever drop by...same with your families and children.... I'd like for my children to know yours."
Kerris nodded. "We can arrange that.." as Ezas smiled. "I'm sure Neban and the kids would be delighted to hear that."
"Neban... as in Neban Hular?."
"You know him?" Ezas was surprised. The look on her face said as much.
"In a manner of speaking.... yes... I know him.. He was the one that processed my application for refugee status... except... he was a Lieutenant serving on the Courageous at the time.. under a Captain Jake... Yama'goo'chy.. I think thats how you pronounce his name."
"Yes.." Suvek responded. "We will inform both men that you send your regards."
"I do yes.. " Pettar responded. "Also... Our youngest is named Neban and he should be home from his friends place in a couple of hours.."
Ezas smiled. "I think my husband would be honored, naming someone for someone else in Capellian society is a major honor.."
"He gave me access to a better life with your mom, he deserves nothing less then the highest honor I can give him." Pettar responded with a smile as the small gathering entered the kitchen. "How long before the medication works?"
"It'll take about six hours.. then everyone will wake up, but they will be extremely hungry as you guessed... However we have a plan to handle their hunger." Ezas responded. "We will bring you some food to replenish your stocks... fresh and not replicated..."
"You guys live on that replicated stuff... I replicate my base ingredients but I will also cook my own food..."
Ezas smiled. "Excellent... Do you need a few pairs of hands?"
"You guys have already done so much already that I don't have the right to ask any more of you... I will steal your husband and get him to help but... but you ladies should relax and enjoy my hospitality.." Pettar responded.
"Sounds good." Nerra responded with a smile.
"Right then.." he turned tot he Vulcan. "So... Suvek, do you know how to make a Hassperat souflee.?"
"I do."
"Excellent. then we will make my own version... the kids love it but I try not to make it too strong for them." Pettar explained. "They like all kinds of food... I myself sometimes miss Cardassian cuisine but I find I prefer Bajoran dishes to be honest... They are more gentle on my system and I still my nutritional needs.." Pettar smiled, taking a moment to enjoy the surprise on the three women's faces.
"Very well, I will assist you." Suvek responded.
