Trials End - Part One

Mission: Mission 55: The Measure of a Woman
Location: Courtroom Two - Starbase 12
Timeline: 0800Hrs - February 8th, 2392

Commander Harmon Rabb Junior stood as he waited for everyone to file into the courtoom, Talon took her seat next to her fiancee as the two of them sat down in silence while everyone else filed in.

The last of the guests all strode in to find their seats before the bell struck the top of the hour, the Bailiffs closed the doors as the black door at the front of the courtroom opened and out walked the judge.
"All RISE!" one of the front bailiffs called.

Everyone in the room proceeded to stand up, Talon included.

"Be seated" The Judge commented as he sat down, everyone else did likewise.

Commander Rabb was ready as he called his first witness, this one proceeded smoothly as the questions were asked and the details came forth. "Thank you nurse Richards, you may step down."

"Thank you." and with that the middle aged woman withdrew.

Jerome Hunt sat in silence as he smirked in silence. Meanwhile Carol and Jerome Senior both sighed. "This farce should end sometime soon." he commented as Rabb glanced at his PADD. "Your honor. I call Carol Hunt to the stand please."

There was a moment of silence as Carol herself rose to her feet, she slipped her way between the people gathered before she took a seat on the stand. "Ms Hunt." Rabb began respectfully. "I read your diposition on the case at hand... so I'll keep this breif... How well did you know Noel Yamaguchi?"

"She is the adopted daughter of my former daughter in law. Talon Hu-Sorry... Talon Yamaguchi. We got along very well."

"Was Noel ever a trouble to you...?"

"No. She was always polite, well mannered and well behaved." Carol explained evenly.

"I see.." Rabb commented. "Did she ever use her various abilities at all."

"Yes." Carol responded bluntly. "She cooked food using those abilities. She did ask for permission first before she did however."

Rabb raised an eyebrow. "Cooked... How?"

Carol regarded him, with her steely blue eyes as she picked up an item before her, she then proceeded to cup it in both hands. "Just like this."

"Objection. Council is badgering the witness."

Carol gave Lindsey a very evil glare. "Nobody badgers ME. Young man."

Loran gave Lindsey a brief glare," Overruled, you may continue Commander."

"Thank you, your honor." Rabb responded as he turned back to Carol Hunt who was waiting patiently. "Now... Carol. When Noel had friends over, did they get along with her?"

"Noel was easy to get along with and she was gently a pleasure to have around."

Rabb nodded. "Did she use her abilities around them?"

"Not that I can recall.."

"Oh." Rabb responded. "Your witness." he said to Lindsey

Lindsey approached. "Did Noel use her abilities to intimidate the other children?"

Carol regarded him with a flinty look. "No." she responded bluntly.

"So... Noel was intimidated by the other children so she didn't want to use her powers because she would be laughed at or jeered at?."

"No." Carol responded bluntly for the second time.

"So.. Noel was simply afraid of everyone then?"

"Objection." Rabb said as Carol raised a hand. "Your honor. I would like to answer the question... if it pleases the court."

"Sustained," Loran announced," You may answer."

Carol smiled. "Thank you, your honor." she responded to Loran before shifted her gaze back to Lindsey. "Noel decided not to showcase her talents in concern that she would be singled out as a freak. Your attitude tells me that my granddaughter's attitude was the correct one."

"Ummm nothing further... you may.. may step down."

Carol smiled. "Why thank you." and with that the older woman withdrew. Rabb stepped forward and much the same process repeated itself with Jerome Hunt Senior who was next on the stand.

General Ranik Solusar was busy taking notes, he had already decided that Noel wasn't dangerous and the testimony from Carol and Jerome Hunt Senior had already confirmed what he suspected about them. They still considered the child as their grandchild despite the fact that Talon was no longer a part of their family. Ranik in many ways pitied both of them as they had Rear Admiral Jerome Hunt as a son.

The judge then stood up and said that there would be a fifteen minute recess to allow people to go to the bathroom and the like.
