Enter the Klingon

Posted on Mon Mar 16th, 2020 @ 4:27am by Lieutenant Colonel Tienn Nerra

Mission: Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard (47)
Timeline: 0930Hrs - May 26th, 2393

K'taro beamed onto the Starbase. He had his travel bag over his shoulder and his bat'leth locked in its case secured in his hand.

"Welcome aboard." The transporter operator addressed K'taro. K'taro nodded and headed to the quartermaster's office. Despite the size of the base, K'taro reached the quartermaster's office in little time.

K'taro entered the office and addressed the young quartermaster present. "I am Commander K'taro of the KDF. I require quarters."

"Welcome aboard Commander." Lieutenant Melody McKnight-Yamaguchi was seated behind her desk as she worked on paperwork, the extra quantum shipment that tactical needed was proving to be more of a headache then she had anticipated and it was aggravating her. "K'taro mmm.." she quickly pulled up the files she needed to review. "Let's see. You'll be quartered on level sixty with the other senior staff, inside the armored citadel of the base." McKnight-Yamaguchi explained as she handed him a PADD. "Again, welcome aboard."

K'taro nodded. "Thank you." He took the PADD and headed to his new quarters. As he entered the chambers he noticed that they were already inhabited. Toys were strewn across the floor. K'taro noticed hair on the floor. He examined it. "Caitians." He told himself. He could hear children sleeping in the adjacent rooms. Furious, K'taro picked up his bags and headed back to the quartermaster.

As K'taro entered he made a beeline to the young officer that assigned him the quarters. "The room you assigned to me is already occupied by another family." He told her sternly.

"It is?" McKnight-Yamaguchi paused. "Let me have a look at your PADD please Commander?" she inquired, he handed it over without comment, she regarded the information. "Odd." she then turned and pulled up the information she was seeking. "Well, your quarter's assignment is right," she commented. "Family quarters on deck sixty," she explained. "Assigned to a Major Tienn Nera. Isn't she your spouse?"

"Tienn Nera is my spouse but she is assigned to the Lancaster. Maybe there is an issue with your database?" K'taro asked.

"No Commander, there isn't." The young woman responded with a tone that brooked no argument. "Nothing happens on this base without me knowing about it," she added with a look. "The Major was present in this very room herself with several Caitian children including one of them who was about the same height as the Major herself," she explained. "He was carrying a small infant," she added. "Computer. Locate Major Tienn Nerra?"

"Tienn Nerra is on level sixty-five, section forty-six." came the female response.

McKnight-Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow. "You didn't know, did you Commander?" she inquired in a gentle tone of voice.

"I was to return to the Empire with my vessel when this opportunity presented itself. It is very recent and I have not had a chance to contact my spouse in a long time." K'taro told Melody.

"Fair enough. According to the computer and the database, your spouse is present aboard the base." as the young woman gave him a rather evil grin. "Is there anything else I can do for you Commander?" she added.

"No, I will go to my quarters now," K'taro stated as he left. He wasn't sure how to feel. He still didn't know if the database was correct. It seemed odd that Tienn would get a sudden transfer.

Meanwhile, the doors to her home opened at her approach as Major Tienn Nerra entered her quarters. Balin regarded her. "You okay mom?" the massive being inquired of her.

"I'm alright," Tienn answered in a soft tone of voice. "Where is everyone?" Tienn looked around, it was oddly quiet.

"They all went to bed. I just put Edal down for a nap and I was going to do some schoolwork in the den." Balin explained in a gentle tone of voice.

"Yes, that sounds like a great idea Balin, You should go tend to it while I get things set up for you guys. School and medical and all that wonderful jazz." the pregnant female explained. "I'll drop by medical later after everyone is awake."

"Okay," Balin answered. "Call if you need me." and with that, Balin padded off into the den. Tienn picked up a PADD, then she called up her to do list as she resolved to get started on the things she needed to handle, she felt jetlagged and tired, what more was that she was annoyed. "I fucking hate this shit." the Bajoran female muttered to herself.

K'taro entered the quarters. "I am here." He told Tienn before setting down his travel bags.

Tienn missed the sound of the door opening but when he announced himself, she turned her head. "K'taro," she said quietly. She turned and went over to him. "It is you," she added as she looked up at him before she grabbed his shirtfront, pulling him down to her level as she was a couple of inches shorter then he, himself was, she kissed him rather passionately on the lips. "Mmm." she smiled. "I've missed you."

K'taro simply smiled. "I missed you as well. I hope the children are doing well also?"

Balin poked his head around the corner in silence, he had heard the commotion so he went to investigate, he smiled as he noted that Tienn was with K'taro, he then withdrew in silence.

Tienn grinned up at him. "They are well, if somewhat jetlagged so I won't wake them, they can see you later. Edal is doing well and.. I have some bad news for you," she added with a smile.

"Oh, what is wrong?" K'taro asked.

"Your son is demanding of his mother," Tienn commented as she gently grasped his hand with hers and placed it on her belly as if on demand, her unborn son kicked at the same time, something Tienn knew that K'taro felt. "He will be born in about three weeks time."

K'taro howled aloud. "Yes, a son!" He then remembered that there were other children in the room.

Tienn grinned as she looked up at him. "You did want a son, we can discuss names later," she responded. "How long are you in for?"

"Sons? As many as you are willing to have." K'taro replied.

Tienn grinned as she regarded K'taro. "No. I mean how long are you present here for? before you have to head back to the empire."

"I do not know. The assignment was open-ended. I will be aboard for at least one year. After that, I do not know." K'taro told Tienn.

Tienn's smile widened into a rather wide grin. "Excellent. Even better." the small Bajoran commented. "You'll be present when he is born," she added.

"Yes, I will be. We have a family to be proud of." K'taro told her.

Tienn grinned up at her husband. "Yes, we will. Don't worry about the other kits, they will accept you in time, the younger ones will have an easy time but its Balin I'm worried about."

"I'm not worried about Balin," K'taro said flatly. "I am not saying he doesn't need help. I think he is strong and will persevere."

Tienn raised an eyebrow. "I had no idea you were so poetic," she answered. "Balin has come a long way in the last year but he still has much to do, he spends more time on schoolwork then all the other kits combined, hell, he does more paperwork then I and my twin do, between the two of us... and Iteela sends her regards."

"Balin has come along way and will still need our guidance. While his studies are important, he still needs to develop as a well-rounded adult." K'taro told her.

"Balin is doing well and he's coming along nicely," Tienn responded with a smile. "He is slowly calming down, along with the other kits under my care."

As Tienn made her comment, Balin came around the corner as he regarded K'taro. "Hello K'taro." he addressed the Klingon male, there was still a lot of tension in his voice but it wasn't as bad as a year earlier. "Do you.. Ummm.. are you.. ummm.. well?" the large Caitian inquired.

"Yes Balin, my enemies did die well." K'taro looked sternly at Balin. "Do your enemies die well?"

Balin paused. "My enemy is." he paused. "too strong to kill in a single battle," he admitted before he tapped the replicator, his drink of choice appeared. "I know his name and I am dealing with him." he paused. "I will slay him in due time... after I become stronger."

"It is a true warrior that confronts a strong enemy," K'taro told Balin warmly. "A true warrior will never look for easy victories. A victory that is not in doubt is not a true victory."

Balin regarded K'taro in silence before he nodded. "The truest victory is one where one faces an implacable foe." he paused. "the important thing in life is not victory but combat; is it not to have vanquished but to have fought well. My enemy and I are locked in an endless battle and I will defeat him, whatever it takes." Balin explained before he drained the drink from his glass and he drank it all in one move. "Mmmm. You ever tried Aellian punch?" he inquired of K'taro.

"No, I haven't," K'taro replied. "Is it good?"

Tienn smiled, however, she said nothing. Balin placed his now empty glass back into the replicator. "It's not too strong and not too sweet. It's a Bajoran drink that mom introduced me to." he indicated Tienn as he spoke.

K'taro took the glass and drank the contents. "I enjoyed that. You have fine tastes in beverages."

Balin smiled. "You ever tried coke-cola?" he inquired. "Or anything with gas in it.?" he then ordered himself another glass of punch. "It's so bubbly and happy. It's still revolting." he paused. "Its too sweet for me... plus it gives me gas."

"I shall have to try one at some later date," K'taro answered. He looked at Tienn. "What are the children's bedtime?"

"At present, whenever they are sleepy," Tienn answered with a smile. "They are good kits though, they tend to behave most of the time," she explained right before the crying sound of an infant sliced through the house.

Balin turned. "I'll get her," he commented before he began moving towards the bedroom.

K'taro watched Balin disappear into the room. "Eventually we will need to put them on a schedule. Children need boundaries."

"I know," Tienn answered with a smile. "Its only for the next few days while they settle in, they did travel far over the last few days so I've been letting them rest." she explained.

Balin gently liberated Edal from her bassinet, before he brought her out into the main area. "Is her gear still where we left it?"

"Yeah, it's under the counter," Tienn answered. "She needs her diaper changed?'

"Yep," Balin answered, clearly not bothered by the scent of soiled diapers. He gently placed her on the table before he went to work, with the seasoned grace of a combat veteran. Tienn smiled as she watched him work. "He's really taken to watching over her. I honestly don't mind the help as the two of them will be really demanding of us." she paused. "At least for the first several months." Tienn regarded K'taro as she spoke. "The kits more or less look after themselves so I more or less don't have to do a whole heck of a lot."

"That is good," K'taro replied. "We will give them a few days to settle in."

Balin finished cleaning off the small infant before he put a new diaper on her. "There. Fresh and clean," he commented with a smile as he handed her off to Tienn. "I've got to get back to my schoolwork. I'll leave you three alone." and with that. Balin went about cleaning up the mess, then he disposed of the diaper in the second replicator.

Tienn gently presented her infant to K'taro. "K'taro, meet Edal. Your daughter." as she offered the child to her father.

K'taro smiled as he held Edal. "She is beautiful, like her mother."

Tienn smiled as she looked up at her husband. "She's got my eyes and my face. But she has your crest. Her brother will look just like you, except he'll have my eyes."

"Yes, maybe he will." K'taro agreed. "She looks very healthy. In no time, she will be up and away at school."

"Yep, Same with her brother," Tienn answered with a smile. "They will learn discipline and wisdom from me and how to destroy their enemies from you. We can't lose. No matter what happens." the tall sized Bajoran female grinned at her husband.
