Mission:
Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Dreamcrusher
Timeline: 2100Hrs - January 20th, 2392
Corps General Ranik Solusar had been summoned to attend a civil dispute matter on Starbase 12, his involvement was to be a part of a three person panel in a child custody case held because both parents were members of Starfleet. The names involved was Commodore Talon Yamaguchi and Rear Admiral Jerome Hunt.
Solusar was presently looking up the files and service records of both officers in question, he wanted to know who he was dealing with and what they were about. Talon's file indicated that she was a loving parent and she was doing quite well for herself where as Jerome Hunt was all about work and no play, his personal life was meaningless as far as he was concerned, it showed in his he treated his subordinates, in a cold and calculating way which really defined his personal style as far as Solusar was concerned.
"I would not like to serve under a guy like that,." Solusar said aloud, the first words spoken by him in over thirty minutes. "I'd go insane.."
He sighed as he recalled that the USS Dreamcrusher was present at the base, he finished reading the file of Jerome Hunt before he decided to tap the display, turning it off.
Ranik slipped off his uniform jacket as he recalled his wife asking him to try at least, to resolve his issues with their son who was estranged. Ranik said he expected nothing to come of it but that he would at least try.
Ranik sat in the silent dark for about ten minutes as he considered what he would say to Kameron if and when the two met but he knew he could not longer put this family matter off, he plucked his uniform jacket from where he had left it and he went into the bedroom to change.
He emerged ten minutes later decked out in a pair of jeans, a light grey golf shirt and a pair of sneakers, all in all he looked nothing like a General on any level whatsoever.
He had wanted to ensure that all of his children had discipline and could understand what he was chasing, the trouble with that theory was that he didn't understand biology at the time, judgement didn't develop until later in children and Ranik failed in that he didn't give his children a decent father figure. The irony was where his children ended up, one was a civilian, two and three joined the marines while four and five joined Starfleet and the last one was dead, killed in an accident which Solusar blamed another of his children for.
That decision to blame someone for his own feelings rather then deal with them in another fashion only highlighted already existing issues between father and child.
He went down to the transporter room before beaming over to the USS Dreamcrusher. "Permission to come aboard?"
Commander Daniel McKnight regarded him before he nodded. "Granted General... Welcome aboard.... Can I have of assistance?"
"No. I'm here for a family matter.." Solusar explained. "Its... Not anything official.... Thank you though."
"Of course sir. The computer can assist you should it be required." McKnight turned and departed as Solusar went out of the transporter room, before he turned right and went down the hallway.
Solusar stopped, he sighed softly before he gently touched the wall panel beside him. "Computer?"
The wall beeped at him softly.
"Locate Kameron and/or Elizabeth Yamaguchi." he named the two people he wished to find.
"Lieutenant's Yamaguchi are in their quarters." the computer responded.
"Lovely." Solusar responded evenly as it was about nine o'clock in the evening. Hopefully they weren't having sex at the present time but Solusar was never that lucky, he knew he was about to interrupt something. "Where are their quarters.?"
"Deck Six, section eleven. Room One Nineteen."
Solusar nodded, processing the information before he set off towards his destination.
Meanwhile Elizabeth eye'd her husband carefully across the chess board they had set up on the coffee table in their quarters, she was black while he was red and he was admitting giving her something of a public spanking, she had lost her queen early on and he was about fifteen moves from victory.
Kameron in contrast had not expected his wife to go for such a ruthless play style right out of the gate as he had been expecting her to be somewhat coy and subtle which was her usual play style. He however had managed to defeat her move by taking her queen. "Still... You are much more blunt about it.... not your usual play style."
Elizabeth regarded her husband coyly. "You were the one who wanted to go balls deep... Either go bold or go home."
"I can't argue with that... Besides it was-"
The doorbell beeped at them as they talked, Elizabeth who was closer rose to her feet as she went over tot he door, but she was not expecting the person who stood facing her. "Miss Yamaguchi... is Kameron around?"
"Yes... Come in General.." Elizabeth stepped to one side, allowing the General access to the living space. Ranik regarded her as he stepped forward, towards his son who remained sitting. "General..." Kameron's tone was cool but at least it wasn't hostile.
"Kameron... I came... to apologize.."
Kameron raised an eyebrow, he had not been expecting this and the look on his face said as much. "Why are you here?" Kam inquired quietly. "Last time we spoke... you did all the talking and I did the ignoring."
"Yes... Well, that was then and this is now.."
"So... What changed?"
"I realized that I was wrong... about what I said, how I acted and treated you. I expected too much from you... and from your brothers and sisters too.. I didn't.... realize what I wanted ...."
"You wanted the impossible." Kameron responded a trifle hotly.
"You were too young to understand and I was too stubborn to see..." Ranik explained. "The error... for all of it....son... was mine... Not yours.... I came to apologize.."
Kameron rose to his feet. "I don't get it.."
"Get what?" Solusar responded quietly.
"Why you come here now... After all that we both said... we both did... Elizabeth here threatened you." he paused. "She and Coral got into some harsh words."
"Yes. Jerrica told me about that..." Ranik turned and smiled at Elizabeth. "Fine job with that asskicking, it was long overdue."
Elizabeth blinked. "Wait...Thats... Not what... I expected you to say to me.."
Ranik nodded jhis head slowly . "Coral turned into the exact opposite of what I had hoped and intended my children to become Miss Yamaguchi. I wanted them to become good and strong adults. I was too stubborn.. and proud to see what I had... Even after I lost James.."
"James's death was never my fault." Kameron responded a trifle hotly.
"I know." Ranik responded quickly. "I Wrongfully blamed you for his death. Time has since taught me otherwise... I'm Sorry for that too.."
"I'm Sorry too Dad... " Kameron responded softly.
"It'll be okay son... Even through all of our troubles and issues... You still made me very proud to be your father." Solusar responded.
"Why didn't you say anything of this before?" Kameron responded.
"Because... I was not sure of how to say it... and I was not sure if you'd give me the time... Not that I had any right to it..." Solusar explained.
"So... What now?." Elizabeth asked of both men.
"I forgive you Dad..." Kameron responded. "Now... You'll be able to know your grandchildren when they come." he smiled warmly.
Elizabeth let out the breathe she had been holding as she seemed to deflate. "I'm sorry too sir."
"You should never apologize for protecting your family Ms Yamaguchi..." Ranik responded with a smile. "Besides... It is very seldom anyone ever speaks to me like that.. " he added. "I sometimes play it when I feel I need a reminder of what not to do.." Solusar's grin widened. "Besides... You alone.. Have more stones then my entire crew... "
Elizabeth wanted to vanish or at least disappear. "Well.. at the time-"
"Its okay... Besides... I had it coming." Ranik said quietly. "I also got your letter Kam." he explained when he saw his sons confused look. "About your time in the brig after you beat up Commander Lasky." he paused. "I will admit, I was disappointed about you being in the brig but I was also proud of you for standing up for those you love...."
Kameron nodded. "I was out of line."
"I understand why you did what you did... It takes guts to admit mistakes like that... Considering our last conversation.." Ranik explained. "Time has taught me much... and so have a few people with voices to get through my dense skull."
Elizabeth smiled. "Sounds like a conversation Kam and I had not a couple of hours ago... with Commander Lasky."
"I can only imagine how that went." Ranik responded softly before he sighed softly. "Kam, I have no right to say this to you... but I will ask anyway..." he paused.
"What is it Dad?"
"Don't make my mistakes son... Don't let anger cloud your good judgement and blind you.. Thats all I ask." Solusar explained. "As it did with me."
"I'll do that... Besides.. I have Elizabeth here to keep me in line."
Ranik smiled at that statement. "Fair enough... Well... I don't take to take up your night... so I'd best go... Thank you son.. Thank you too daughter.... for letting me say what I needed to say."
Elizabeth nodded her head as Kameron went over to his Dd before giving him a hug. "Thanks for coming Dad." Kameron whispered.
"How could I not?... I had to atone for my errors of judgement and for my words."Solusar responded. "You make me proud Kameron. You always have... Even when we were at our worst... I never stopped being proud to be your father." before he turned and gave Elizabeth a hug as well. "I'm glad to know you Elizabeth.."
"You'll always be welcome in our home sir.."
"Ranik, please... I've never liked being called sir by family.."
"Okay Ranik." Elizabeth smiled. "I can do that."
Solusar smiled. "Well.. I'd best go... I have jury duty to prepare for and I need to call your mother.... Want me to pass along anything for you?"
"Tell her... things are resolved." Kameron responded. "She'll no doubt call me when she gets off the com with you. Which is fine.." Kameron smiled. "Goodnight Dad."
"Goodnight son." and with that the elder Solusar took his leave and departed in silence.
Elizabeth paused a moment as she looked at the door where Ranik had been standing not moments earlier. "I can't believe that just happened."
"That makes two of us Beth..." Kameron whispered. "I never imagined that Dad would ever give me the time of day..."
"Now who's being negative.." Elizabeth laughed softly.
Kameron smiled, the moment was over. "Come on... Lets eat something while we wait for mom.."
"You seriously think she'll call?." Elizabeth couldn't hide her surprise.
"After what Dad just spent the last thirty minutes saying.... I would bet on it." Kameron said quietly before he sat down on the sofa.
Elizabeth sat down next to him before the two curled up together on the sofa, she gently rested her head on his shoulder as she closed her eyes. "I love you."
"I love you too." Kameron responded with a smile.
