Mission:
Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1800Hrs - December 31st, 2391
Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi regarded his granddaughter. "Were you hiding in the crawlspaces again?"
"Ummm well.... yes."
Jake almost smiled. "You know your mom hates it when you do that.." as he sighed at her. "I will let her deal with it."
"Why not you?" Saki Yamaguchi lifted her drink to her lips before she drained a mouthful of her drink. "You're my granddad.."
"Yes... but I am not raising you... your mom is... and she is the one you must answer to sweetie.... I'd like it if... You could stop antagonizing her about things... I know you value you're space and thats fine.... but keep in mind that she is still responsible for you.. and your siblings."
"Alright.." Saki groused. "I'll ... think about it."
"Saki... I asked nicely..." Jake responded quietly. "Do I need to tell you're mom about your lack of respect?"
"No... errmmm n-no." Saki responded.
"Good... Then I can consider the matter closed." Jake responded as he shifted his attention to Olmos. "Lil'yanna..." he greeted her.
"Hello Jake," Olmos smiled brightly and pat her lap so to allow Saki the option to sit on her. "Saki reminds me much of your mother, Jake."
Saki looked at Jake first, he nodded his head and moments later, Saki was seated more comfortably on Olmos's lap. "She does.. How?" Jake inquired, clearly curious as he regarded the older woman before him.
"Your mom had a lot of courage - always inspired others to be better than that were," Olmos said as she very motherly rubbed Saki's back.
Jake regarded Olmos. "I had no idea you knew my mother." as he sipped his drink. "Tell me about her?"
"We served on the front lines together, during the Boarder Wars. Worked in a MASH together," Olmos explained. "She was a few years my senior, so she oversaw my work. But she never let her fear show, during the proton shelling that took place close by."
"Now that sounds like mom." Jake responded. "go on?"
Saki knew she was making Olmos uncomfortable as she could sense it, what with her weight and size so she gently hopped off of Olmos's knee and sat down in a chair nearby. Jake watched his granddaughter with a soft smile on his face but he turned his attention back to Olmos as he flagged down a waiter. "One glass of orange punch please... Saki?"
"I'll have that too please?" she smiled as she looked at Olmos as if prompting her to place her own order.
"You may," Olmos nodded in agreement. Then turned to Jake to continue talking, "Rache was... well... Fierce. Never really saw the bad of a bad situation. A rarity in our line of work."
Jake smiled. "Sounds like mom, she made sure that we knew who she was as we were raised on Earth Spacedock with Dad... mom was off with the Fleet."
"She loved it in the fleet.... But she missed her kids too," Olmos told him with sympathy. "She kept telling me to adopt. Didn't really understand why I couldn't. I wish I could have told her the truth."
Jake listened in silence. "Why didn't you tell her?"
"It's too dangerous to let people know about my family... and I like people knowing me for who I am. Not by titles," Olmos answered simply. "I did not want your mother seeing me differently."
"I don't think mom would care... She never did care about rank or titles.." Jake responded lightly.
Meanwhile Renhai wandered into the green dragon and went over to Duval to ask about the kurokuri plushies she heard so much about.
Duval placed the last of two dozen glasses into the row, he smiled as he lifted his drink, he took a mouthful of it as he regarded Renhai. "Renhai. What can I get for you?" he inquired with a smile.
Renhai looked over at the rack of kurokuri plushies and commented, "Well I just want to take a look at the kurokuri plushies my grandson made, he didn't tell me all of the varieties he was making."
"Well he has one of himself and just about every Kurokuri in Starfleet along with some of Lieutenant Nasao and a couple of Caitians.." Duval explained. "They've been doing a brisk business.."
Renhai looked at one of the plushies, which was one of Hakaya, and said. "Well, ill take that one then."
Duval went over to the plushies which were arranged in a tasteful manner, he selected one of the Hakaya plushies and he brought it back over. "Here you go." he smiled.
Olmos smiled from across the way. Those plushies looked just too adorable.
Saki peered over as she regarded the plushies. "Mmm.." as Jake smiled. "I know the twins are wanting one each.."
Renhai took the plushie saying, "Yep Ryuukei did a good job with these."
Duval nodded. "Considering the work he put into them." he responded as he tapped the PADD in his hand. "The cost of one of these has been charged to your account." he added.
Renhai nodded and walked off, but as she passed by Olmos she commented, "You look familiar, have I seen you before."
"Possibly... Where have you served?" Olmos asked warmly.
Renhai shrugged, "I think it may be before I joined starfleet."
"Hmm... Well one of my earlier postings was during the Boarder War, along the DMZ," Olmos gave out carefully.
Renhai shook her head, "No, never been along the DMZ, before I joined starfleet I spent almost all of my time with my own people on our temporary settlement on Vega."
"That might be it... My unit helped with medical and engineering aid," Olmos spoke as if a light bulb came on.
Jake paused. "Mom mentioned in one of her letters that she had assisted with a colony settlement on Vega."
"Did your people get settled all right?" Olmos asked sincerely to Renhai.
Renhai nodded, "Yeah we did get settled alright, though we did end up having an outbreak of Chamberlin virus that we weren't prepared for."
"I'm just glad we could help you guys," Olmos spoke with relief.
Jake nodded to Saki. "Come on Sweetie. Its time I got you home." he commented. "Its good talking with you Lil'yanna."
"And you, Jake." She hugged him in parting.
Jake gently hugged the older woman back. "Take care." and with that Saki gave the older woman a hug too because Saki was Saki, the two of them turned and departed in silence.
