Enter the New Science Chief

Mission: Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0830Hrs - December 29th 2391

Commander Tom Lasky was waiting for their long awaited Chief Science Officer as she came aboard, her record was quite impressive and she had written several papers. Lasky knew little else about it so he was attending to this while Teval was off dealing with mission related issues that had come up.

The transporter Chief regarded Lasky. "One to beam over from USS Stalingrad sir."

"Energize when ready Chief..."

The Chief Petty Officer nodded his head as he went to work, moments later Lasky found himself looking at a rather attractive Orion female. "Welcome aboard Commander." he addressed her. "I assume you are our new Chief of Science?"

"Hello Commander, yes I am." Nuala replied. "You don't remember me from Star Base 400?"

"I do actually." Lasky smiled at her. "Commander Dvald said something about you and her eating some chocolate but ... and I have no idea why she mentioned it." he explained. "I mentioned to her that you were coming and she seemed to become very happy... She's off commanding the Tranquility these days... Besides.. Your staff aboard this ship will be very small so you will have access to additional personnel from around the battlegroup should you require or need them."

"Thanks Fives." Nuala replied. "So she is on the Tranquility? Is she still with Phoenix?"

"She is and... yes." Lasky responded. "I stopped answering to Fives several months ago... Just so you know Nuala." he smiled as he regarded the attractive Orion woman. "Make sure you drop by sickbay... Get all the issues sorted out quickly."

"I'm really in good health." She answered. "Is there a reason I should stop by?"

"Other then just the usual physical." Lasky responded. "And to make yourself known to the medical crew, they are a little.... odd." he then grinned. "I'm sure Lieutenant Commander Furban wouldn't mind meeting you... but a word to the wise. Do Not Touch her, she is a Deltan who has issues with her abilities... she will either stun you... or make you want to mate with every man... and most of the women on this ship. That is what led to the last Pineapple incident."

"I know enough about biology and Deltans to know what will happen." Nuala told him.

"Okay." Lasky responded. "The skipper is in his office... He's expecting you." as he regarded her.

Teval however, was curled up sleeping on the couch after a rather long night, cuddled up with Hakaya, and neither of them had remembered to lock the door to the ready room.

Nuala rang the chime and waited for admittance.

Neither Teval nor Hakaya noticed the door chime, but Nuyari, whom was playing with silversnow, heard the door chime. She went over to the door and opened it, looking up at the unfamiliar Orion woman. the young kurokuri politely asked," hi, what are you here for?"

Nuala had no idea if the creature in front of her was a child or a pet. She decided to play it safe and just be polite as possible. "Hello there, I'm the Roanoke's new Science Chief. You might you be?"

Nuyari pointed to Teval, whom just started to stir," I'm Teval's daughter, he is the captain of the ship."

"Oh, okay." Nuala replied. "May I talk to Teval?"

Nuyari nodded and went over to Teval, gently shaking him," Teval, someone is here to see you"

Teval stirred and stretched, then let off a yawn, and looked over at the new arrival, taking a few moments to collect his thoughts. He then noticed the science blue collar, " Ah, I take it you are our new science chief."

"Yes I am." Nuala stated with a nervous smile. "May I assume your the captain?"

Teval nodded as he smoothed out his fur," I am, sorry had a late night dealing with the issues going on with the colony."

"No need to apologize, odd hours are normal for Star Fleet." Takabe replied.

"Well anyway, welcome to the roanoke," Teval replied as he stood up, " We do have a mission going on now, but today you have the day off to get settled in, but tomorrow, your going to be needed on the planet to help out with their issues. Basically the planet is starting to go through an ice age and we need to prepare the colony infrastructure so they can get through it alright, which means your going to be doing a lot of work regarding the planets weather systems and trying to predict how bad its going to be, as well as various other survey work."

"Thank you Captain." Nuala replied. "I'll look over the briefing material and see how I can help out." She replied and then thought for a second. "May I ask who is running the department right now?"

Teval shrugged," No one really right now. For the past couple of months we haven't had a science department. its only in the past couple of days that we have started to get new people come in, since we started needing one for missions like this. So yeah sorry about that you are pretty much going to be building that department from scratch."

Nuala raised her eyebrows. "So Captain, I'm the chief of a department where I'm the only officer?"

" No there are a couple of other officers, about a dozen enlisted and a few warrants, but like you they are all new arrivals. We still have a few more coming so within a week your department will have about 20 people." Teval explained, " Also one other thing, I wont judge you based on your service record or past commendations or disciplinary actions, as far as I am concerned, you have a clean slate with me."

"Alright, that seems to be more than fair. Thank you Captain." Nuala told Teval.

Teval nodded, then said," Well check in with operations if you havent already to get your quarters, and please don't call me captain, call me by my name, which is Teval. Yes I know its weird but its how my species culture is."

Nuala thought for a moment. This Captain certainly wasn't the narcissist that Bremer is. "Thank you Teval." She said before leaving him to his family.

Teval didnt say anything as he went back to cuddling with Hakaya.
