Mission 52: The Astral Winds
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0800Hrs - December 4th, 2391
Around the main nurse's island, Nalla had gathered her senior medical staff. She had two patients in dire need of longer-term care. Care no ship in the task group could give. On top of that, she was pregnant and Nalla did not know what to do about that.
With the assault upon her people, Nalla did not trust herself to make the next decision for their most critical of patients, alone. Thus she called a meeting, though she tuned out the chatter.
Nalla had learned long ago that people like to catch up wither each other at any given rate so she let her staff talk and chat while she retreated into her own thoughts.
Galiaan Fordring regarded the small bald woman before her. "You alright Nalla?" she inquired softly.
"Yeah..." Nalla was shy as normal, looking down at her feet rather than in someone's eyes. "I just... I wanted to know everyone's opinion on Benice and Tienn's progress."
Fordring regarded the woman who was a fraction of her size. "Tienn frankly... is fortunate to be alive... she needs some very serious care... care we simply are unable to provide." she sighed. "Gyce needs to have her leg rebuilt.."
Renhai walked into Roanokes sickbay, but not before noticing that someone had crossed out the word sickbay on the door and replaced it with the word suckbay. Shaking her head she went over to the group and suggested," Well, given the nature of their injuries, Akurian medical technology is actually capable of repairing the physical damage to Tienn, and subsequent mental issues though, she may need to visit the vulcans for that."
Fordring nodded. "Makes sense... Considering all of her issues are mentally related.. and this was done by guys who were supposed to be friendly to us." she sighed. "Though if they ever run across me... I cannot promise I will be nice to them." she paused as she coughed softly. "Anyway..."
"I apologize for not registering the danger, once it had presented itself," Nalla spoke in her typical Vulcan-like tone. Again, the lack of eye-contact as an Autistic-like effect.
Fordring wasn't going to let the small woman before her accept the responsibility for this. "When it presented itself, they were already here... We didn't see it coming.." Fordring responded evenly. "The responsibility isn't yours, nor is it any of ours... nor was it security's or anyone elses... we didn't know they were going to do what they did.."
"I... erm..." Nalla struggled to find the words. No matter what, she knew her words were not the sort to console anyone. And that thought made her sad. Sad because she lacked the ability to comfort a child.
"Well...I believe all is left is to write the official medical transfer forms then, if we are all in agreement," Nalla spoke to no one in particular.
Fordring nodded. "We can't provide the care those two need... Benice is a maybe and thats using the facilities over on the Dreamcrusher but Tienn is a lost cause... If this had been ten years ago, she would have been left with the mental state of a child. As it is... her recovery will be interesting.." before she handed two PADD's to Nalla. "I thought ahead.."
Nalla put her thump print on the PADD before she spoke, "Anything else we need to talk about it?"
Fordring simply shook her head. "Nothing comes to mind.."
"All right... I guess if there is nothing else, we can go about our business," Nalla spoke, rubbed her tummy nervously and began to gather her PADDs off the counter.
Nalla rubbing her belly was not lost on Fordring. "Thank you everyone." she commented and as the people scattered, she turned to follow Nalla in silence. Moving into Nalla's lab after the diminutive woman. "Hey... you okay?" she asked softly.
"No... I will take half a day off, I believe," Nalla admitted as she rubbed her temples. The lights felt too bright all the sudden. A thought that caused her to palm her lab table for her shades.
"Alright.." Fordring responded with a smile. "You wanna go get something to eat while you're out the door?"
Once Nalla found her shades and put them on, her posture was more relaxed. And she took the moments that followed to acknowledge her colleague.
"I suppose eating a nutritious snack could not hurt, given my state," Nalla nodded in a quiet tone. "You do not mind filling in for me when I am incapable of thinking or performing rationally, correct?"
"I've been in your shoes several times... I know whats required of you.. and of me..." Fordring smiled down at the smaller woman who was child sized compared to Fordring herself. "Simply let me know and I will handle things for you as long as needed."
Nalla nodded at that, frowned from discomfort, and let out a sigh of frustration. "Thank you... I just hope I meet the standards required of being an adequate parent."
"You will make a great parent." Fordring smiled. "Besides, You will have a lot of help and people here do care... So you have plenty of support and help as you need... and I will be around too." Fordring regarded the smaller woman. "Nobody knows what to expect going into it... You will gain that knowledge over time sweetie."
"I have read many books on parenting - Matron Furban noted several times that I would be incapable of being a good parent. So I got curious during medical school... All the books I read sound a lot like theory and guess-work." Nalla sounded very unsure of herself.
"Nalla." Fordring smiled. "I'll get the girls together and we can hang out... and you can get some good advice from the parents and grandparents among us." she smiled. "it'll be okay.."
Windspirit with her sensitive feline ears, heard Gaillians statement then asked Renhai. "Wait aren't you really old and had lots of children."
Renhai nodded," Yep, I am thousands of years old, and the number of children, forty six."
Windspirt gave a low whistle, then grabbed Renhai's paw, saying, "Hey our resident Kurokuri would be happy to give advice, she has had forty six."
Fordring turned her head. "Like I said... Nalla... either way... you are covered with parenting." she paused. "and I thought I had a lot..."
"Very well then," Nalla agreed with the dutiful head bob.
"Besides... If you have questions... Ask." Fordring responded. "I've had several and Renhai has had several dozen.."
"I shall," Nalla promised everyone around her.
