Communication Troubles

Mission: Mission 52: The Astral Winds
Location: Various Locations - USS Courageous / Akurian CB Guardian of Kio
Timeline: Dec 3rd 2391 midday

Division Commodore Nevanzi Jesko boarded the cruiser Guardian of Kio, curious as to the status of the federation communication system. He knew there was trouble, he just wanted to find out what. Walking into the engine room he spotted the federation crew hard at work.

Lt Commander Rachael Falanner was lying on her back as she pulled out a burnt isoliner chip. "Mmm..." she sighed softly. "This doesn't fix it.." she commented.

"Nope." came the response from one of her engineers. "The Akurians power systems are just not compatible with ours.." as Rachael sighed, before closing her eyes. "I wanna go home!" she commented.

"Well I hear ya." the same engineer who spoke up earlier, added in his two cents. "Might as well have Courageous send us over a power generator for this."

"Alright." Falanner conceded defeat as she tapped her combadge, before calling it in.

"Alright, we're sending you one of our power generators." came Captain Yamaguchi's voice. "It'll be there in fifteen minutes." she added.

"Alright.... Sounds good Captain, We will be waiting.." Falanner tapped her combadge while still lying on her back. "I need a vacation." she added.

Nevanzi walked over to the engineers and asked curiously. "So whats with the power system issue."

"Your systems are not compatible with ours." Falanner responded as she regarded the display before her, while still lying on her back. "Your system uses a different source of energy then we do.... you use electrical, we use plasma."

Nevanzi gave a confused look. "Wait, you guys use plasma as a power transmission method?"

Falanner nodded her head. "It has something about getting the right power requirements." she shrugged. "Its always worked for us."

Nevanzi gave her a dubious look, but didn't say anything on the matter, not until the federation engineers brought the power generator onboard.

Rachael sighed softly as she settled in to wait for their supplies to show up. "Wake me when they get here." as she closed her eyes, a smile on her lips.

Several minutes later, an engineer came in as he pushed a massive hunk of metal on an antigrav sled. "Skipper... here you are!" called a voice.

Falanner sighed. "Wheel it over here.. and lets plug in this piece of scrap metal."

The Taver Leokuri Sakira Kui, the chief engineer, watched quietly as the federation engineers went to work. She was too unfamiliar with their equipment to really help out, so she just observed quietly.

Falanner and her engineers went to work and ten minutes or so later, they were finished. "Courageous, how read you?"

Torilla's voice came back almost instantly "No.... nobody home."

"Oh good... so it works then." Falanner said.

"Nope, you only think it does... because you're not actually hearing me, you're hallucinating."

Neither Nevanzi nor Sakira really paid much attention, instead Nevanzi asked. "So will this thing be able to reach the federation then."

Falanner nodded. "Yep. it will." she explained. "Where are you heading next?" she inquired.

Navanzi shrugged. "Well we need a place to layover for a little while until we can regain contact with the Akurian confederation. but we would like to link up with the Ryazar's shied, as well as establish a base of operations so we can coordinate the recovery of all the remaining ships in our battlegroup that got scattered."

Falannar paused as she made a choice. "Alright. you got any star charts of this area?" she inquired before she tapped her combadge. "Falannar to Courageous, sir I need the coordinates for Starbase 12."

The response came back a moment later. "Downloading to your tricorder now."

Falannar smiled. "Alright." she turned to the Akurian nearby. "I'm going to give you coordinates to one of our primary bases in this area of the Galaxy... the base commander is more or less expecting you."

"O.K.," Nevanzi replied," If you don't mind, I would like to attempt to contact Ryazar's Shield then."

Yamaguchi's voice came back. "We have no idea where Ryazar's Shield is presently located... we were thrown over two and a half thousand light years.. she might have been thrown out of the system.."

Nevanzi sighed," I'll try anyway."

Sakira, by this point whom had passing familiarity with the subspace communication relay, started scanning for Ryazar's transponder code. It didn't take very long to find it, as Ryazar's shield was located at starbase 12.

"Well that wasn't too hard, Ryazar's shield is at Starbase 12."

Falanner smiled. "Nice... so they escaped that system without serious issue." she paused. "We were not quite so lucky.."

Sakira looked up at Falanner saying," well we will find out the full details soon enough."

Turning her attention back to the relay she hailed the Ryazar's shield.

Lirvinx was the one monitoring the comm station, and when he answered he was quite surprised to hear a distinctively Akurian voice. "This is lirvinx of the Ryazar's shield."

Nevanzi was the one to do the talking. "Hey this is Division Commodore Nevanzi of the Akurian confederation, my battlegroup has been looking for your ship."

Lirvinx nodded nervously. "Well, do you know how long we have been waiting for you guys."

"Oh i have an idea, do you mind if you put Master Captain Ryuukei Akavai on the line."

Sure," Lirvinx then briefly left the comm station to go get Ryuukei. Ryuukei himself was quite surprised to hear the news, but then said.
"Well I guess it is close to that time."

Sitting down at the comm station, Ryuukei picked up the mic and introduced himself," This is Ryuukei Akavai, well i have to say, I was wondering when you guys would show up, so when do we get to go home."

Nevanzi shook his head. "unfortunately not any time soon. The wormhole we used to get here was unstable, and it scattered our fleet across the galaxy. Its probably going to take some time for our fleet back home to find a stable route here. Exploring the maze isn't an easy task."

Ryuukei rubbed his forehead," Oh believe me I know."

Nevanzi nodded, then asked," So what happened to you guys anyway."

Ryuukei took a minute to collect his thoughts, then began to explain. Starting with how Ryazar's shield and the transport she was escorting ended up running into a hidden wormhole. He had to carefully explain that there was a transient temporal anomaly present at the wormhole itself, and it sent then back in time by about 60 years. He then explained his encounter with the federation, then his decision to join the federation. Next he covered the sequence of events that happened with the federation and what he experienced. Then he finished with explaining how they found Ryazar's shield and recovered the ship. But then he was also careful to explain the arms race that was accidentally triggered as a result.

The conversation lasted well over an hour, with Nevanzi carefully listening to all the details, then replying," Well, it all sounds complicated enough. Anyway, do you think the federation has a method to contact all our ships scattered throughout the galaxy. We don't have a comm's relay ship in the battlegroup, so our comm signals don't go reach far enough."

Ryuukei thought on the matter, then replied. "Well the Federation has what they call MIDAS arrays, which is an extremely high powered sensor and communications array, they might be able to do it."

"Alright, I guess we may have to give it a try," Nevanzi replied, then adding. "Well, we are going to head in that direction, we should be at your position in a few days."

Talon raised an eyebrow. "Well.. that raised a lot more questions then it answered." she commented. "I figured I'd let you have the deck to yourself." she added.

Ryuukei gave Talon a look, then gave her a full explanation on the Maze, and he summarized what he talked about with Nevanzi, finishing it with," In all honesty, pretty much all my questions have been answered."

Talon raised an eyebrow. "The Maze... sounds like its fascinating and a pain in the ass, both at the same time.."

Ryuukei sighed," Yeah, its no joke, the maze is a hell of a place to tr and explore. Though I am sure a number of exploration happy captains in the federation fleet would love to poke around there."

"Including a few members of my family... Marie and Jake chief among them.... and myself too." Talon smiled down at the smaller beings before her. "I might stick in a request to come back here and chart some of this unexplored space myself when my assignment here is completed."
