Mission:
Mission 41: The Changing of the Guard
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1000Hrs - August 29th, 2391
Wukari walked into Tom Lasky's office with the final report on all the fighter corps people transferring out of the battlegroup. The new fighter corps senior NCO, Abbado, was walking beside her.
"Well, Tom, this is the final list of people we are losing."
Lasky nodded. "Lets see..." he paused as he let out a soft sigh. "We're losing too many good people.." he noticed Crosshairs on the list. "Crosshairs requested a transfer?" he inquired but then he looked closer. "Wait.. no... He was wounded.. Aww Bollocks.." he placed the PADD down. "When do we get their replacements?"
"Well," Wukari answered, "Ka'Vao went off to OCS. Since she is a Chief Warrant, she will come back as a flight captain and will command one of our squadrons. Ironhide, Eyes, and Leadfoot are starting to settle into wing commander jobs, but none of these three will be the groups XO, given they are all newly promoted, so it will be between the the new incoming wing commanders. Both of them will be coming in today, Jorge Sinclair and Jack Hassel."
Lasky raised an eyebrow. "Jorge Sinclair... as in Noble Six Sinclair?" he inquired. "I didn't think he'd ever leave TOP GUN." he mused.
Wukari shrugged," Well I dont know much about him so i cant say anything on the matter. Anyway, we are getting another squadron commander in today, an Aurelian guy, Valon Shrike. and when Skydive comes back that makes nine of our squadron commander slots filled, which still leaves six more squadron commander positions to fill."
"Fifteen Squadrons... We got space for all those egos?" Lasky inquired. "I doubt Roanoke...could hold that much..." he mused aloud. "When do they all report aboard?"
"All within the next two months. Its different from one person to the next though." Wukari added.
"Alright." Lasky responded. "Well Zara is due to get booted out of sickbay in the next few days and when she does... I'm departing this ship and so is she... Besides... Roanoke's air wing is in good hands...
Wukari nodded," Yeah, though I have to say, I expect that when Phoenix is up and about, she will try her best to get her old position back."
Lasky nodded. "Including starting fights and other stunts to get demoted..." he left out a sigh. "So... We'll worry about that when the time comes... I'll talk to Siaxx about it in the meantime." he added. "What else is there?"
There was a soft knock at the door as Lasky turned his head. "Its Open." and in walked a truly massive figure of a man, he wore his flight gear with his helmet in hand, before placing his head gear on a nearby table. "Fives." he growled. "Its been too long."
Lasky got up as he came around the table before shamelessly giving the more massive man a big hug. "You old pirate... Its good to see you again."
Lasky grinned as he regarded his old friend. "Tell me about it Jorge. You have no idea how glad I am to see you're ugly face."
"Heh Heh." Jorge responded as he regarded the smaller being in the room. "A nevem Jorge" which the translator turned into passible english as "My name is Jorge." he greeted her.
Wukari nodded, "I'm Wukari, I just became CAG here on Roanoke."
Sinclair regarded the small being. "I understand.. I heard what happened.. promotions to replace lost or fallen are never easy." he added quietly. "Still... It'll be good to fly with you again." he said to Lasky.
"You're taking over as skipper of Second Wing... and I'm now the Exec of this ship... I wanted to remain in Starfleet.."
"So you're lying days are over then?"
Lasky nodded. "Yes... I fly alongside some great pilots and I simply got lucky... Besides.. I'm working to sort out a few other issues in my life so being in the Fleet is where I feel I need to be."
"Fair enough then." Sinclair responded with a smile. "You got anything else for me?" he inquired of Wukari.
It was then a thin and weary looking middle aged pilot entered. He acknowledged Lasky. "Jack Hassel reporting for duty. I brought a few pilots and ground techs with me."
Lasky nodded. "Ahh.. Hey Jack.." he greeted the other pilot. "This is Wukari. She's the CAG of the Roanoke." he indicated the smaller being nearby. "She's a Shi'ar. They are relatively new to the Federation..."
Hassel nodded to the two aliens. "Greetings." He told them. "I've been stuck in a backwater for too long thanks to Nechayev. My crew and I are glad to be on a real Star Fleet vessel again."
Lasky nodded as he regarded the other pilot. "Well... Nechayev has... got her comeuppance at long last... She has been relieved of her command and has been arrested for various crimes.... Oh we got her dead to rights this time.."
Jack was a little surprised to hear that. "I'm still skeptical anything will happen to her. That woman has been around a long time. She'll fight with tooth and nail to stay in power."
Lasky nodded. "You're preaching to the converted." he responded. "However.. I have it on good authority that Fleet Admiral April Yamaguchi has ordered that USS Crazy Horse be taken apart to assist in the investigation into Nechayev.. Someway, somehow. we'll get her.."
Sinclair raised an eyebrow. "Well... It could always be worse... I prefer the demons I know.. to the ones that I don't." the massive man rumbled.
Lasky indicated both men. "Jack Hassel, meet Jorge Sinclair." he did the introductions. "Jorge.. This is Dirty Jack Hassel. You both will be commanding various wings aboard this ship.... Please try and get along."
Sinclair nodded. "Good to meet you... I hope you're able to play cards, last pile of rock jock's I had were worthless... I ended up with all of their pay and I didn't even have to try hard either.."
"Once the rest of my unit arrives I'll arrange a big game." Hassel told Sinclair. "They'll give you a challenge."
Jack turned back to Lasky. "As much as I enjoy a game of cards I do need to ask you about the birds we will be flying. Our Peregrine fighters have had it. What will we be flying now?"
"Either Scorpion Bombers or Valkyrie Starfighters." Lasky responded evenly.
"I haven't heard of Scorpion Bombers." Jack replied. "Are they new our have I been out in the sticks for too long?"
"A bit of both really." Lasky explained. "The Scorpion Bomber has a decent ordinance package, much stronger then the older Peregrines but you'll need to qualify in them... the Valkyries however are being supplemented by the new Gryphon variant. Its a strike fighter and it carries a different ordinance load out to the standard Valkyrie.. You'll need to qualify in those too."
Wukari interjected, "Um, Tom, we wont be using Valkyrie's at all anymore, the fighters we will be getting is the Gryphon's. A few have arrived here on the starbase, but yeah, no more Valkyrie's at all."
Lasky raised an eyebrow as Sinclair spoke up. "Anything special about the Gryphon I should know?" the massive pilot inquired.
"I don't care what you call the new fighters or that my guys have to qualify on them. I'm just glad to be using some new kit."
Gryphon is more of a standoff missile fighter," Wukari explained," Doesnt focus so heavily on close range dogfighting anymore."
She then looked at both Jack and Sinclair," Also, because our other three wing commanders just got their promotions to flight major's, it will be between you two as to who will be the fighter groups XO."
Sinclair simply shrugged. "I am not too worried either way... I spent the last chunk of me life at TOP GUN. I need time to ease back into the groove of command again."
"I was in command of a small detachment for a few years. Being second in command of a fighter detachment should be easy." Hassel replied.
Wukari nodded," Alright Hassel, then until further notice you are the Groups XO then."
Lasky nodded. "Alright.." he responded before making the adjustments to both men's files. "Oh and Six... We have new management in the Green Dragon... so no getting into fights.."
"Would I do that to you?"
"Yes." Lasky responded bluntly. "Yes you would... Just to get a rise out of me." he turned to Wukari. "Anything else we should mention?" he inquired of the smallest person in the room. "Crazies need sectioning and nutcases needing chaptering, That sort of thing..?"
"Wait, sorry to interrupt but this 'Green Dragon' is that the ship's bar?" Hassel asked with a little excitement.
Wukari nodded," Yes it is, but don't piss off the sergeant major, he is in charge of it."
Jack smiled. "I'll let my people know, thanks."
"Alright. I think that about covers it." Lasky commented. "Wukari. Did I miss anything?"
Wukari shook her head, "Nope"
"Alright. You two... go take the rest of the day off, explore the ship and meet your people but come back tomorrow, ready to... do whatever it is that you guys do."
"Willdo." and with that Sinclair turned and departed in silence.
"Thanks Wukari," Jack replied. "I'll round up my guys and keep on a short leash for the time being. They just aren't used to living in civilization anymore."
Lasky smiled. "Alright then.. All of them were going to be assigned to you anyway." he explained. "Duval, the manager of the Green Dragon is actually quite laid back but... try not to piss him off... he has issued a few bans from the Green Dragon... including me. For fighting..."
Jack looked a little surprised at Lasky's last comment but said nothing. "Thanks I'll let them know."
"Alright, then I'll leave you to it." Lasky rose to his feet. "I need to take care of a few minute things before I go on leave." he added.
Wukari nodded," alright, well I've got got a few things to do myself so I'm out."
Lasky nodded before he too departed.
