Mission:
Mission 41: The Changing of the Guard
Location: Various Locations - Starbase 12
Timeline: 0900Hrs - 12th August, 2391
Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi went down the hallway in silence, PADD in hand as he reached his destination. He opened the door and didn't ask for permission to enter. "I demand to know where the hell Commander Torilla Yamaguchi has gone, I also demand to know where Zara Tane went and I demand to know just what the fuck is going on around here!" Jake Yamaguchi was well and truly enraged.
Fleet April Yamaguchi watched her younger brother lose his mind as he screamed at Nechayev before he slapped a PADD onto the table before her with a loud audible bang.
Nechayev had that imperious look for only a moment before she softened. Of course he would be worried about his wife.
"The Courageous just finished her refit, actually. And given the importance that ship has to your family, plus the request of transfer she put in weeks ago to get out of Tane's hair? I saw no reason to keep the ship from your family."
Nechayev rolled her office chair to her tactical map and show the Courageous's location. "She is on an intel gathering mission to the DMZ and because the Cardassians are notorious for having superior subspace listening posts, I've ordered radio silence past Point Alpha."
Jake regarded the map with his eyes. "I see... Last time I checked. the USS Courageous is part of IFO... which means you're interfering in my command Admiral... I resent that.." he paused. "But we'll come back to that... first... I demand to know where is Zara Tane..?"
"The ship was in IFO," the fleet admiral corrected. "You had it in mothballs and I needed it. It was stated as inactive and I used my authority to acquire it... As for Captain Tane? I honestly do not know. She handed in her resignation, as part of a deal to keep one of officers out of the brig. Where she went after our meeting, I could not tell you."
Jake raised his eyebrows. "The Courageous was not in mothballs.. She was being refitted back up to state of the art... and your starbase administration.. Why are you handing out ships like candy anyway?" Jake growled. "Leave IFO and the personel and assignments within to me."
"I have full authority to police my assigned territory and requisition the personnel and ships needed for it and you know that," Nechayev said coolly. "Your wife is not in danger. She is not even going across the line. All I assigned her for, was to listen to things on our side."
"Ahem." April raised her voice. "Nechayev, Why would someone who handles the Starbase side of things look at personnel transfer requests and the like?" she inquired. "I see why Jake is annoyed and I would be too." she explained. "Your assigned territory last time I checked is Starbases.." she then indicated the star map. "That... is not starbase territory, that's a matter for my opposite number in the Alpha Quadrant to decide."
"I believe it is within my power to decide if certain starbases need more firepower," Nechayev countered. "Be as it may, I stand by my decision. Captain Yamaguchi did not refuse the offer of command, so there is no problem."
April saw where this was going. "The Courageous was assigned to the Beta Quadrant forces Admiral... which meant her assignment is for me to decide.. not you. You want more firepower for starbases, you ask... you don't just take"
Jake growled. "I'm gonna ask one last time.. Where... is Zara Tane.."
"As I said... She resigned her commission and went out the door," Nechayev said tiredly. "She confessed to sabotaging Colonel Sullivan's plane as a harmless prank to get back at Sullivan over a previous incident regarding cat litter. She admitted that she did not properly network her connection to the colonel's bird. So so resigned her commission in light of her oversight."
Nechayev handed him the PADD of Zara's confession. "Funny enough, SCIS was ready to charge Colonel Sullivan for the incident... How Tane found out, beats me. But she did resign on her own accord."
"I see." Jake accepted the PADD. "Y'know you could have said this when I walked through the door... saved us both a lot of hassle." and with that he turned and marched out the door, his anger was a physical thing, his rage shone like a star.
April raised an eyebrow. "Well.. that was dramatic."
"Well I assure you I will not take too much of your time, since it would appear that your family is not too fond of me," Nechayev assured.
April Yamaguchi simply shrugged. "Why should they be?" she indicated the door. "In any event. I got work to do... I'll let you show yourself out." and with that April turned and walked out the door. Her own rage seething but she controlled it better then her brother did.
