Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Yamaguchi Quarters - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 1630Hrs - August 3rd, 2393
Commodore Marie Yamaguchi smiled as she inhaled the scent of the food that she had been cooking for the last little while. She smiled as she savored the scent as Celeste Yamaguchi-Hobbs smiled. "I'd swear you were enjoying yourself, with all my food Marie."
"What?" Marie answered with a grin. It's not every day I get to cook something for you. You sure I can't interest you in some Cardassian cuisine?"
"No. I'll leave that one for you and your husband," Yamaguchi-Hobbs answered with a smile. "I could never stomach it," she added.
"To each their own, it's not bad actually," Marie responded as she turned to place the empty can of soup onto the countertop nearby, as she did, she looked down to ensure that nobody was near her there didn't need to be near her. It was a useful habit to cultivate as babies tended to pop up anywhere and everywhere, especially when they were unexpected or unwanted.
Celeste noticed. "I'm going to put Jackson down for a nap and if you're okay with it. I'm going to join him, I need to hang out with my son." she smiled at her elder sibling.
"Do not let me stop you hon." Marie was only too eager to assist her sibling with affairs of state, she knew that Celeste had issues with her son and how those issues came about, but she also knew that Celeste was a good mother to her children, even the vast majority of them were not her's by blood. There were the twins who were off at the academy, these three Caitian snow leopards and Jackson. Marie smiled as Celeste gently gave her a quick hug before she moved off, picking up her son and moving into the master bedroom.
Charon came over to Marie. "Umm... hey Aunt Marie.. is that right??"
"You can call me Marie if you like little guy. What's up?" Marie knelt down before him.
"I am wondering... Is Mom okay?" Charon inquired of his mother's sister.
Marie gently brushed her hand through his fur. "Yeah, she's just tired, she went from being a nobody to a very important somebody. Your mom is going to have a full plate of work every day. It'll suck but it'll be okay."
"Oh.. Whos Rob.?" Charon asked innocently.
"Rob," Marie responded. "He's an old friend of your mothers." Why do you ask?"
"It's just that mom has no idea of what to do with him."
Marie was suddenly concerned. "Does he call her or otherwise bother her?"
"No, not that I can tell," Charon responded. "She's been confused about it for a while now." the small Caitian explained.
"Okay, I'll talk to her about it and see if I can help her with things," Marie answered. "Thank you for letting me know."
"Your welcome." and with that, he turned and walked away. Marie slowly rose to her feet as she turned back to the dish she was making, she picked up the ladle and began to stir the soup. "Rob, I might need to have a chat with you." she mused aloud when the door opened and in came Brianna Hobbs. The three Caitian children rushed over to her.
Marie turned, a gentle smile on her face as she got to see Hobbs interact with the children. "Come on back in kits, don't crowd her," she commented in a jovial tone before she moved over towards Brianna. "Hey, Bree. Celeste is presently taking a nap and I'm making dinner for you guys. I hope you don't mind my dropping in like this."
"I don't mind at all. Your family and you're always welcome here." Brianna smiled at Marie.
"I don't know what you wanted for dinner but I'm making a meat dish for your kits, did you have a preference for anything?" Marie inquired, a wide smile on her face as she brushed her dreadlocks out of her face.
"No I'm not hungry," Brianna replied with a slight smile. "I'm glad you're just giving Celeste a break."
"She's been through a lot recently. With mom and Rob." Marie responded. "If I can help her with her issues. I will because I'm the big sister," she answered with a grin. "Besides. Lasagna is an easy dish to make. Lots of meat and some pasta, put some meat on these kits bones." she added.
"I'm glad she is dealing with her past ghosts," Brianna confessed Marie. "It will be hard on her now but she won't have to carry that baggage around anymore."
"I'm worried about her." Marie smiled. "But then I'm always concerned about my sister. She has a big heart and she gives without thought of reward. She can be inspiring to me at times..." she paused. "She's certainly showed me a few things... but I'm concerned about this thing between her and Rob and her and mom."
Brianna nodded in agreement. "I'm a bit concerned too. This is, however, her battle. We can support her but she needs to fight it."
Marie nodded in agreement. "Yeah, we can help her if she wants it." she huffed a gentle sigh. "So, what do you want for dinner Bree?" she inquired with a gentle smile.
"I'll have some lasagna," Brianna replied. "I'll keep an eye on Celeste. If I think she is having a hard time I'll let you know."
Marie smiled. "Thank you, I appreciate that," she answered. "Okay, some lasagna for you, check... This should be done in about thirty minutes and then we feast." as she grinned at the other woman.
