Mission:
Mission 20: Outbreak
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1100Hrs - December 27th, 2390
Teval watched, as the ships helmsman was now forced to leave the bridge because of his sickness. Not 30 minutes earlier, Alyssa Mckinley had to run to the bathroom to puke her guts out, Teval hadn't seen her since then. Now all that was left was a very sickly looking Moni Nasao.
"How are you holding up," He asked.
Nasao slowly blinked her eyes. "I feel terrible..." she mewled softly. "What is this bug?"
Teval shook his head," I have no idea," as he pulled up a crew roster to figure out if anyone that wasn't sick had effective bridge training. The list wasn't a good one. Most of the bridge crew was already down on multiple shifts, so he had little choice in the matter," Teval to Hakaya, Varkon, Tirion, Luhanna and Aerin," I need all five of you up on the bridge now."
He then looked at Moni saying," If you need to leave, You can."
The Com system beeped. "Wintersnow here. I'm on my way."
"Thank you." and with that the Caitian slowly moved towards the turbolift, the doors slid open as the svelte female Draenei appeared. "Lieutenant." and with that Luhanna stepped out as Monai Nasao vanished from view. "You sent for me Teval?"
A moment later, a set of doors opened and out came the massive form of Master Warrant Officer Tirion Fordring appeared. "You called Teval, whats the word?"
Teval sighed as Varkon, Hakaya and Aerin showed up as well. "Well, we have an issue. We have less than 10 percent of the crew functional at this point, and many of them are the medical staff. So far none of you have seemed to show any symptoms of the plague we are currently dealing with. So i need your guy's help in running the ship."
Tirion nodded. "Whatever you need." he paused. "Who's getting what post?"
Luhanna raised her hand. "I have command experience.... trouble is... none of it is starfleet.."
Teval sighed," Right now I need people to operate the ships basic functions, monitor the ships systems, keep us from wrecking into planets, that kind of thing. At this point command experience is little help, there are so few people left to command."
Aerin decided to offer a suggestion," Well, I have a command neural interface, that my AI can use to monitor the ships systems, and keep them running, though I don't think Roanoke has a proper Command neural interface installed, but I do have these available, so if someone else can help me hook it up to the ships computer, I think I can keep everything in order, at least for a little while."
Wintersnow raised an eyebrow. "I can assist you." she responded evenly.
Tirion meanwhile, sat down at the conn. "Alright.. lets see if I recall how to do this..."
Aerin nodded, then tapped his own combadge, saying," Hey Karryn, can you bring one of the command neural interface modules to the bridge."
"Sure," She replied.
Teval then looked at Varkon, saying," Can you help Ra'Vak out in engineering, he is quite short on staff."
"Sure," Varkon replied and he left going to engineering.
He then went to Luhanna next," Well, Luhanna, for now, your going to be second in command, if something happens to me, your in charge."
Wintersnow nodded her head. "Alright." she responded as she went to assist Aerin with his goals.
Hakaya then went to Teval asking," What do you want me to do."
Teval shrugged, "Just help out as needed really, aside from Tirion, the rest of us aren't really going to be doing a specific job. But I would say monitor the sensors for now, we are quite vulnerable."
Something else then just occurred to Hakaya," We are going to need help at this point, I would suggest that we put out a distress call if we hadn't already. We are definitely going to need a medical ship."
Teval wondered why he didn't think of that one earlier, but said," Yeah, send out a general distress call to all ships within range. Can you find out if there are any ships nearby."
Hakaya looked on the sensors as she activated the distress beacon, she then stated, "The Tranquility is four days out, they are the nearest ship. Ashes of winter is the second closest ship."
Teval nodded, "contact the Tranquility first."
Hakaya nodded and sent the hailing signal to Tranquility. When she got a response, she put Olmos on screen.
"This is Captain Olmos, of the Tranquility. How can I help you?" Olmos spoke as she sat comfortably in her chair of her bridge.
Teval wasted no time in getting straight to the point, "We have a serious medical emergency on our hands captain, nearly 90 percent of the crew is down due to a virus that we have yet to fully identify, and our medical staff is severely overwhelmed."
"This has nothing to do with polywater, I assume?" Olmos asked skeptically.
Teval shook his head, "No, no its not that, this is a lot worse, its showing the signs of being similar to hemorrhagic fever. This is a no shit medical emergency that we really need help with."
"We'll be there within four days then," Olmos promised. "But you may want to coax a heavy-hitter to protect us as well. Olmos out."
Teval knew exactly whom to contact next. In the way of heavy hitters, few could mach the pathfinders," Contact the Ashes of winter Hakaya."
Jake Yamaguchi was sitting in his command chair as Commander T'Shaamet who stood in at 4'11 in height sat down in the exec's chair, she then began swinging her legs as she clearly was having a great old time.
"I think you're just bored Runt."
"I am.. yes." and with that, Runt climbed into her CO's lap, considering she was half his size, he didn't mind as it was something different and Jake was not the average Captain, commanding his own ship.
"Hey Bossman. We got a distress call coming in... Its from the Roanoke." Lieutenant Tiris Mav'a who was a dark skinned Bolian woman of almost navy blue turned her head.
Runt quickly hopped off of Jake's lap as Jake stood up. "Punch it up on the big screen.." he commented.
Teval watched as Jake came on screen, wasting no time he said," Admiral, we have a severe medical emergency on our ship and we need immediate assistance, there is a viral outbreak on board, and 90 percent of the crew is down, the Tranquility is coming, but they are a medical ship with limited weapons, they are requesting a more powerful ship escort them."
Jake nodded. "We're on our way..." he then slowly smiled before he turned to his Bajoran Chief of Tactical. "Nell, warm up your toys.... if someone is in the area and not Federation, please make them go away."
"Hah, you got it Jake.." the Bajoran chuckled as he went to work.
"Lieutenant jg Heather Walking Bear turned her head. "Sir, we can be there in four days.."
"Helm, step on it..." Jake answered as he watched the stars wheel about on the screen before him. The stars then elongated as the Ashes of Winter flashed into warp as Jake sat down in his command chair. "If something has happened to my girls..... I will give them a first hand lesson in the meaning of pain..."
Teval nodded," Thanks," and he simply closed the channel. Shortly after Karryn arrived on the bridge with a small device in her hand, and Aerin commented," Thanks," as he took it from her. "Can you help me install this."
Where are you going to put it," Karryn asked.
Aerin opened up the access panel under the engineering console," Right in here, but I'll need to add some computer code to the ships computer to make it work."
Pulling a thumbdrive from his backpack, he said to Luhanna, "hey, do you know computer coding well."
"The ships computer is primitive in comparison to what I used to work with." Wintersnow responded. "I'm used to working with functional AI's in the computer system.... I even had one made using myself as the template." she paused. "I miss Cortana."
Teval wandered over, having heard every word," Wonder how similar it is to our own AI's."
"Perhaps.." Wintersnow commented. "I've not seen my own people's tech in close to fifty years..." she let out a soft sigh. "It might have evolved... I will need to talk to Telios when this is over."
Teval didn't say anything further As aerin went to work. After a good 30 minutes working on the system, he said," alright, lets see if this works."
Aerins own AI, Bakel, commented, 'Wow, this is the dark ages of computers huh. Well, this shouldn't be too hard though.'
Aerin sighed,' Just keep the ship running as best as you can.'
