Mission:
Mission 15: Old Ghosts
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1900Hrs, December 7th, 2390
"Jake. you would not believe the ship they got me on.." Torilla explained to her husband while sitting in the main living area of her quarters that she shared with her youngest daughter, Rachael who was off doing more simming with the ships starfighters, Torilla knew how much Rachael enjoyed it, it gave her a sense of purpose and clarity in life that she had never had before.
Rachael had said she felt a certain peace when she was sitting in the easy chair of a Valkyrie or a Scorpion, Torilla had even seen Rachael's grades improve as a result of her new sense of accomplishment so for now, she would leave her daughter alone about it.
Rear Admiral Jake Yamaguchi was clearly settling into his new command on the USS Ashes of Winter, boxes were everywhere as Jake regarded his wife. "Torilla. Seriously. It can't be that bad"
"Oh really..the Captain is a stoner, there are bar fights in the lounge every night, my medical staff report more fights in one week then Pegasus had in a year... and the medical staff are undermanned." Torilla proceeded to explain exactly what was going on. "She did however apologize to me which shocked the living shit out of me." Torilla added.
Jake sighed softly as he ran his hand over his face, no wonder his wife was calling him to vent, this was most definitely not like his wife to do this, normaly their time together was happy but this warranted special concern, his wife was pregnant and he was concerned about her. "Didn't you say that this was a temp assignment?"
"Oh yeah." Torilla answered. "Once I finish.. probably in about six months time, I'm coming home with the babies and Rachael.." she paused. "Possibly as a civilian, if this is what I gotta put up with to get a decent command of my own then I want no more of this miserable life..." Torilla growled.
Jake knew that Torilla had been thinking about it as she had looked into it while she was serving aboard Four Hundred and he knew her patience with Starfleet was wearing quite thin. "It'll be great to have you home permanently... I know Gideon misses his grandmother and... Rachael misses her dad... she can get the same education here on the Ashes of Winter that she could get on the Roanoke... and Ashes of Winter has a far better name then that ship.."
"I know.. the ship name may follow me for years yet.." she sighed. "and.. I can't help but feel that this assignment will be the death of me..." she paused as she finally made her choice. "I stay here for the six months of this assignment then I'm gonna request assignment to your ship as..... I don't care.." she answered.
"Alright. I'll be happy to have you.. as... whatever is available." Jake answered, a smile on his face. "the babies deserve to have both parents around."
Torilla sighed. "I know..." she paused. "I'm starting to regret leaving Starbase Forty Five..."
"When was the last time you were truly happy Torilla?" Jake looked at his wife but he already knew the answer.
"I don't remember." she admitted quietly.
"I do..." Jake responded to his own question. "Remember that two month vacation we took on Algol II?" he smiled.
Torilla slowly started to smile as he recalled the memories of hiking or swimming or having sex all day long and then staying up all night at various nightclubs in town. "Oh yes... I recall..." she then smiled. "you want to visit Algol again?"
"Why not?" he inquired. "I have a few volunteers who can handle the kids..."
"Sounds like fun..." Torilla admitted. "I can always recreate that beach the holodeck... it'll be alright.... I can manage... I've put up with it this long.."
Jake regarded his wife. "You'll be fine Torilla... every ship is different and so are their crews.... you got assigned to one of the worst but.... maybe you can turn her name around and make it into something, wife of mine."
"Yeah... I'll make sure this crew shapes up...or else."
Jake smiled but was interrupted by the sounds of a baby crying. "Yeah... well.. Gideon is calling me so I'd best get going..... I love you Torilla."
"I love you too Jake.." Torilla sighed, she missed her husband and the look on her face said as much, he knew she did before her terminated the transmission as she rose to her feet before going into her room.
