Mission:
Mission 15: Old Ghosts
Location: Starbase 12
Timeline: 1615Hrs - December 1st, 2390
Teval looked around the Starbase 12 promenade, not sure of what really to do. It was several hours before he would have to report in, and he was not overly enthusiastic about it either. Teval was one an intelligence field operative, so he is quite meticulous about gathering information, and what he heard about the Roanoke, was nothing good.
'oh well', he thought to himself, maybe this assignment would be a quiet one, that way he could retire in relative peace. 21 years in starfleet had taken a toll on him, but worse was his sister. Teval watched as Hakaya approached him, carrying a couple of drinks. With a sigh, she sat down in the chair next to him, dropped one of the drinks in front of him, and promptly downed half of her own drink.
"Well your in a mood today," Teval commented lightly, taking a sip of his own. His face contorted somewhat as it was a bit stronger than expected.
"Shut up," She replied, in a sour mood. Hakaya had a much worse opinion of starfleet, and has already expressed her desire to get out. However, they had both been recently promoted, Teval to commander, and Hakaya to lieutenant commander, and as such, where obligated to stay in for another two years at least. Needless to say, Hakaya wasn't overly thrilled about it.
"So what pissed you off today."
Some jackass at the bar decided that i was cute and decided that it was alright to pick me up like I am some housecat."
"Oh, and what happened to him."
"Probably contemplating the fact that he won't be having children ever again."
"You do have a way with people," Teval replied with a light smile.
The siblings didn't say anything for the next several minutes, Teval knew better than to mess with her sister when she was in a lousy mood. But he couldn't help but notice that her mood got worse by the day. He wasn't really sure if she would last another two years, and at times, he wondered if he would as well.
Teval soon heard heavy footsteps of a brikar, but before he could look around he heard a heavy voice that he recognized all to well," Hey Teval, I'm surprised to see you here."
Teval looked at senior chief petty officer Varkon, one of the few Brikar in starfleet, and an old friend of Tevals, from their days as intelligence operatives.
"Whats up Varkon, haven't seen you in a while, what are you doing on this miserable little starbase."
Varkon sat down in one of the other chairs and replied, Reporting tot he USS Roanoke, my new assignment.
Toval's feline ears stood up as he replied in surprise," No way, i am on the same ship."
"Really, what job have you got."
"Ships air boss."
"Bullshit."
"Why what position are you in."
"I am your senior chief."
Hakaya looked up in surprised as well, and then added," Wow, small galaxy aint it."
"There aren't many carriers in the fleet." Toval commented.
"You got that right, not that many assignments are available," Varkon replied softly.
No one said anything for a few moments, while Hakaya got another drink. she came back with it already half gone. Toval looked as Hakaya downed her drink. Varkon then soon broke the silence by saying to toval," Well i have met with a lot of the flight deck crew, and your not going to like this.
"Oh, how so,"
"They are green as shit. almost all of your officers are ensings so clean and new that they sqeak when they walk. The roanoke just recently had its fighter wing expanded, and as such the flight deck crew as well, so starfleet filled them up with greenhorns. The enlisted arent much better off, there are few NCO's and it seems that i am one of two chiefs in the whole section."
"Oh well thats just great," Teval replied with little reaction. Hakaya hiccuped sightly, and clumsily got up to get another drink, but Teval grabbed ahold of her tail,"you've had enough for one day."
Hakaya gave a low growl in protest, but simply sat down, crossed her arms and pouted. Teval kept her tail in hand though. Neither kurokuri, largely due to their small body size, could handle alcohol well, and Hakaya would thank him later.
