Mission:
Mission 15: Old Ghosts
Location: Airlock Forty - Starbase 12
Timeline: 1600Hrs - December 1st, 2390
Two women were standing near one of the larger view-ports that looked into the massive spacedock area of Starbase Twelve, which orbited the world of New Holland, in the Gamma Four Hundred System. Both the two women were in uniform, the larger was in the standard uniform with the skirt and boots where as the other was in a cadets uniform, for Starfighter pilots, both wore the uniform well and both looked comfortable in the same, also both the women were related, looking at both faces, it was easy to see that they were mother and daughter.
Lt Commander Torilla Yamaguchi looked down at her youngest child who looked back at her. "So.. Mom, you gonna be alright?" the teenager inquired.
"Minus the headaches and the stomach issues... Yeah I'll survive." Torilla responded evenly. "You?"
"Paul left for the academy yesterday and I said my goodbyes to that place already..." the teenager commented. "He seemed so happy to be leaving... finally setting out on his own life's journey... " Rachael explained. "I'm gonna miss Siaxx though... and everyone else.... its been interesting, that's for sure."
Torilla nodded her head, clearly in agreement. "I know..." she sighed softly. "this is the ugly aspect of life in Starfleet, the life your Dad and I both chose.... its how we met honestly..." the larger woman smiled as she recalled Jake telling her bluntly that he loved her right before the Borg cube appeared over Earth, she'd replied that he had really lousy timing.
Rachael had never really found out the full story of how mom and dad had met but now Torilla turned her head as she regarded the teenager who at present was her youngest. "Your Dad's timing always sucked..." she explained.
"Mom... Dad will always be Dad.... he's still my hero..." Rachael grinned at her mother.
Torilla leaned against the bulkhead as she rested one hand against the viewport as she regarded the fine, elegant lines and gentle curves of the Nebula Class starship that was to become her new home. "How does she look?"
"She looks great mom, Nebula Class Carrier variant..." Rachael regarded the same ship as her mother did but she was seeing it through a teenagers eyes, for the first time.
"Don't fall too hard hon.... she belongs to another woman." Torilla could hear her daughter's emotions as she gently placed her hand on Rachael's shoulder. "I hear Captain Tane is very possessive." she then smiled at her daughter.
"Well... I'm sure she won't mind sharing...." Rachael commented softly. "She's....beautiful."
Torilla knew exactly how her daughter felt, she had had the same experience when she had seen the Enterprise for the first time. "For me, it was the same with the Galaxy class....the Enterprise... after Wolf Three Five Nine, when she popped up at Earth and destroyed that cube... "
Rachael blinked as she turned her head. "Did you ever serve on the Enterprise?"
"No... I was offered it but I turned it down... I felt I wasn't worthy of her." Torilla admitted
"Fair enough." Rachael then smiled. "Shall we go aboard?"
Yamaguchi nodded slowly. "Lets go find our new home." she commented as she hefted her pack onto her back from where it had been sitting, besides her booted feet.
Rachael knew her mother was having issues with the pregnancy of her two new siblings so she did what she could to help. "Come on mom... lets go find you some painkillers"
"Rachael..." Torilla sighed softly.
"I know mom.... you try to hide it.... but you can't hide from me." Rachael commented. "I know....come on." Rachael said quietly.
"I don't know how I'm going to be able to do this...." Yamaguchi admitted.
"One day one thing and one fight at a time...." the teenager suddenly seemed wise beyond her years. "I had good teachers..." Rachael then smiled as the two woman approached the airlock. "Halt, please identify yourselves for access to USS Roanoke.?" two security officers were standing there, it was a female Caitian who had inquired.
"Commander Torilla Yamaguchi, Executive Officer" the larger of the two responded. "Trainee Rachael Yamaguchi, Trainee Pilot." Rachael then identified herself.
"My apologies Commander... new regs from-" Lieutenant Moni Nasao explained, or rather she had tried to explain when Torilla simply raised a hand to stop the black furred Caitian in mid sentence. "Lieutenant, never apologize for doing your job, if you offend people by doing your job then they have the issue, not you."
"Uhh yessir." the Caitian female who was much smaller then Torilla seemed to smile. "In any case.. you both may proceed... Welcome aboard USS Roanoke"
"Sir.. Aren't you the ships Deputy Chief Tactical officer?" Rachael inquired to Lieutenant Nasao.
"I am cadet, I sometimes find that getting out and about helps me keep things in perspective." the Caitian clearly did not treat Rachael like a cadet or worse, a child but rather as an equal.
"Thank you sir." and with that Rachael saluted the Caitian who returned her salute with one of her own.
Torilla Yamaguchi smiled as she proceeded into the airlock and then into the Roanoke herself, the carpets were a rich, deep brown and the walls were mostly gunmetal grey.
"Sorry about that mom, I just..."
"Was curious... No harm in that honey... but some don't like prying questions..."
"I know... well we'd best go find the quartermaster and then go check in... I need to find the CAG and my class aboard the ship... assuming there is one." Rachael commented with a smile. "though knowing my luck... it'll be a real battle axe of a woman who wants to break things..."
"Sounds like you miss Phoenix." Yamaguchi commented.
"I do... she was hard but fair... she was loyal and demanding, she also protected her own and trained them hard..." the smaller Yamaguchi sighed. "I'm going to miss her."
Torilla smiled. "come on.. lets get going..." and with that the two woman moved off down the hallway, towards their respective destinations.
