Mission:
Mission 14: Rage Rage Rage Against the Dying of the Light
Location: Various Locations - USS Shadow
Timeline: 0810Hrs - April 17th, 2389
Commander Telios Wintersnow glared at him. "Then perhaps you'd mind explaining why the sensors on the bridge think we've got a Black hole thats opened up in here.."
Maxwell just continued to work on as he tapped the control interface to unlock the panel. And then he pulled the panel off. Only for a smoking square to eject out of the object and land on the floor, twenty feet away. Quite the feat. Thing was though he just disregarded it, as he leaned down peering towards the device. "Uh huh. That's. whuuggh... Wait What?A black hole? That wasn't supposed to happen." He commented as he raised his head up and he looked towards the two, giving them a stare before he looked towards his Aide. "Zu Li! Write that down! Also make sure that we get a copy of those scanning reports." He commented.
Joe stood there with his arms folded across his chest: "What is the purpose of this?"
Wintersnow stood as she wanted to strangle the man before her. "Commander... please explain to me.. what is going on?" the tall Draenei inquired.
And then questions came. Yes Yes Questions. "Didn't we just go over this? We're testing a new portable generator with a thearotical Energy Projection that is quite frankly capable of cancelling out Gravity. You know? Newtons Law? The thing with the apple only in reverse?" He commented and then he looked towards the device again. "Quite strong as well. We tested it under firing conditions. Not really full combat scenarios, few controlled practice rounds. Though I suppose the reason that you want to know is why were in the shuttle bay doing this?" He questioned as he pulled out his tricorder and he began to take other readings of the device.
Wintersnow regarded the other man before her that she thought he was downright batshit insane. "Commander.. I honestly have no idea.. the sensors up on the bridge said that a black hole was forming down here.. I happen to know thats impossible yet here I am with you telling me you've managed to create a device that can provide energy or at least I think thats the case." she turned to Pike. "Are you as confused as I am?" she inquired.
He turned towards Wintersnow:"I have no clue what's going on."
Wintersnow blinked her cyan colored eyes. "Indeed... Commander... an explination if you would be so kind...?"
Maxwell sighed and he shook his head, looking down to the device on this table. And then he looked towards his Aide once again, who nodded her head in agreement. She knew that they weren't going to go away without answers, and now so did he. And that was when he walked towards the nearest plexy glass console, Aide Following, and tapped the release button once, and then knocked on the four corners, listening to the small hissing sound of it being released, before he pried it off and set it down on the side. That was when he took out one of the isoliniar chips, handed it to Zu Li who in turn replaced that one with the active data chip. And then he hit the activation button.
"Computer analyse and compare energy data readings to universal phenomenon labelled 'Black Hole.' Show structure and energy Readouts of both on half screens."
"Working." The female computer voice responded, bringing up the 'Please wait' bill board sign. At that he turned and moved towards the replicator, and began to place his order.
"Sir."
"Yes, Zu Li, What is it?"
"No more coffee."
"What? Why?" He questioned turning to look towards the woman with a raised eyebrow who in turn narrowed her eyes, as though daring him to argue with her. "Aww Alright. Computer. Hot Chocolate, Double Strong, Double Sweet, rainbow marshmallows! You two want anything?" He questioned as his order came up, while he watched his team continue to analyse the device. And that was when he noticed the same glare and he just shrugged. "What? It's not coffee." He commented.
"Comparison complete." He heard the computer ring out, and there he picked up his Hot Chocolate, and returning with two others, handing the command staff their beverages. And that was when he turned his head to regard the display and he just let out a low whistle. "Well fancy that. Your both not right, but your not wrong either. From what I'm gathering is that this thing actually mimics the energy distortion of a black holes event horizon. Am I the only one that's actually thinking that this is kinda cool?" He questioned with a chuckle, as he leaned in and began to look at the results a bit more closely. "But that still doesn't explain the reversed gravity effect. Unless of course Energy distribution while mimicking it, adding the distortional warped momentum... No no. that's not it at all. Hmmm Puzzling."
Wintersnow could feel a migraine coming on. "Are you insane or just putting on a show?" she inquired. "or am I just dense?"
The question was asked and he just turned to regard her, gesturing to her with his steaming Mug. "Jury's out. Though funny Thing. The only thing that my transferring officer said to me was 'Make sure it doesn't become a flaming wreck in space.' Not sure if that's a slight or an order there. You seem to be developing a opinion on the matter, what do you think?" He commented before he looked towards the device again, the wheels in his head turning as he thought about the current problem. "Well if you must know, I looked up everyone who has engineering experience just in case, you got a C minus in Field Engineering." He commented as he took a drink of the hot chocolate and grinned gently shaking his head. "Good stuff. But back to the topic at hand. So we've established that it's not a singularity, and that there isn't one forming in the shuttle bay, that the new device is mimicking the actual Emissions presented by it, The only thing that we haven't identified is how I was floating over the shuttle. "
"You were able to negate the grav plating in this area of the ship by forming an anti-graviton field." Telios explained as she considered that he had just insulted her. "And the day is young... this ship can still be turned into a flaming wreak by the end of the day.."
Joe stood there listening to it all then just simple raised an eye brow.
Maxwell nodded his head as he brought up his elbow to the crook of his other arm before bringing up his thumb and finger to hold his chin. "That part would make sense. Though I doubt that to be the case. However, I'm not quite sure, an Anti Grav unit wouldn't make the sensors that made you scuttle down here." He commented nodding his head, before he just shrugged his shoulders and cracked his neck with a sudden jerk. "No point in pondering this part. Given how circumstances constantly change it might affect differently in an actual planetary environment until I get it down there." He stated with a shrug of the shoulders.
Telios found herself wishing that she had her mothers fine control and her sense of patience, she felt hers being severely tested before she lifted the mug to her lips and in one swig, she downed the entire drink even though it was scathingly hot. "Mmm... this stuff is great..." she commented with a smile. "So... other then you're driving the ships computer insane... or I'm finally slipping..." she paused. "do you have any useful applications for this.... toy?"
The question made Maxwell turn his head to regard the Commander and he stared at her, tilting his head lightly to her. "Well I wouldn't dare quote any phrases leading with Old age and Memory loss, even dogs. But if your looking for a point on why I did it, I don't have one. I had the day off and I got bored." He commented with a shrug as he walked back to look towards the table, he peered down towards the machine once more. "I'm just a grease monkey, Commander. Your the one with tactical sense. What would a military organization do with the sensor equivalent of a Black Hole? Hide Resource rich solar systems. Hiding Fleet movements. Marking Strategic Locations. Those are just the top that come to my mind." He commented.
"Uh, Maxwell."
"Yeah?"
"You might want to turn around... Something Freaky is going on." He commented and that made Maxwell drop his tool in a huff, shaking his head. He was deeply displeased about that.
"What have I told you guys about touching...." He began as he spun around narrowing his gaze on the man who was pointing at the Shuttle, that was currently three feet off of the ground. There was no hum of the engines, nothing to signal the anti gravity thrusters had been activated, and they were still on the ground, which meant that the artificial gravity plating was still on. "Things....." He finished lamely as his one arm reached out and touched the shoulder of the commanders. More to ensure that he wasn't hallucinating or anything.
"Alright... submit your recommendations in writing. I think my brain is about to explode." the taller Draenei commented. "Do you have any more tests you plan on running with that thing?"
That was when he leaned to the side to point his head towards the question. "Tests? Absolutely." He commented in a whisper like voice, his eyes darting around in their sockets before they zoomed in on the small piece of metal that had been ejected from the module earlier. "Ah. There's tha lil' Ju-ju bee." He commented as he reached out for a sample container, an almost gleeful expression upon his face. And there with a pair of tongs, he pulled the piece up and set it with the container, before looked down towards it, stepping forwards, towards the two. "Looks like we've got something new." And that was when the shuttle thudded against the floor, the resulting vibration of the blow making the staff jump up, while he hopped forwards, shaking his head, looking towards them as they'd just grown a second head or something.
"What? it was bound to come down eventually."
Wintersnow regarded him. "Keep me informed.... and try not to destroy the ship.... or my sanity."
Maxwell just gave a grin and a non-committal shrug of the shoulders. "No Promises." He replied in a sing song voice, before he began to juggle the piece of metal around in the box, as though expecting once again to levitate within the air. "Son of a... What the hell? Spiecest piece of space junk! Why am I not floating!"
