Mission: Mission 13: The Space Between
Location: Various Locations - Starbase 400
Timeline: 1900Hrs - February 28th, 2390

Lieutenant Selgae was in a rather evil mood, the look of molten fire in her eyes said
as much but she didn't raise her voice, start clawing the carpeting or scratch the
doors and walls with her rather sizeable claws. As much as she wanted to go ahead
and start tearing things apart.

The guy who had been her on again, off again friend with benefits had just broke off
their relationship for good this time, he was the one who usually did the breaking up
and she wanted something a little more then just a one night or two night fling.

Someone said something to her as she responded. "Usenye" one word which was
pronounced as 'oo-SEN-yay ' which meant "Go away!" in English.

"Oh... Sorry to have troubled you Lieutenant.." and the waiter moved off as the bartender
regarded her with an evil glare. "Lieutenant, you mind commin' ove' 'ere?" he inquired.

Selgae went over to him, he smiled before he placed both massive hands on the bar top.
"Give me just one.... one reason why I shouldn't have the bouncer, show you the door.?"

She growled angrily at him, which came out like a cat snarling, only a good deal louder.
"I do not wish to discuss it." she answered after a moment of staring down this massive
being who looked intimidated in the least.

"Either someone you love has died or someone close has told you that you are less then
nothing and has left you.."

Selgae's eyes widened ever so slightly at the latter one, the barkeep had known he'd struck
hits as he produced a glass and then he selected a bottle, as he poured her a glass. "Caitian
Honey-wine... vintage of Twenty three sixty four, there isn't a better vintage.." he slid the
glass across to her.

She looked at him. "I'm-"

"Try not to pick on the people in here, I know you didn't mean it... but... do keep it in mind
Lieutenant.." and with that he rose to his feet as she saw just how massive this guy, this
mountain of flesh actually was, he must have stood at about six foot six and massed several
hundred pounds, a mix of fat and muscle, he looked large and blocky, she also was seriously
outclassed in the size area by him as well.

She lifted the glass as she heard another officer address her, she opened her mouth and drank
the entire glass in one go, she didn't feel its effects for a few seconds before it seemed to explode
in her gut, she blinked. "wow. that's good."

As she said this, a second guy came over while the bartender turned away from her, going back
to his bar, the drinks and his orders, the human smiled at her. "Why hello kitty..."

As he had done many nights this week, Jack was in the Lounge enjoying a quite drink before he
headed back to his quarters and the idea of having to keep unpacking. He had been putting it
off now as much as he could but know that it would not be long before Lilly made him finish
unpacking his stuff. So he was enjoying his hour between work and home.

Jack was sat at the same table he had been at the past few nights. The table was positioned
between the bar and the window about half way down the room. Jack had chosen this table not
on location but the fact that it gave him a good view of the room thanks to the mirrors around
the room, knowing what was going on made him feel that bit more at ease.

This evening Jack was in a black shorts sleeve shirt that showed off his family tattoo and had the
top button undone. As everyone was on R&R he had been going into the office in more causal dress.

Jack looks up from the table he was sat at, he had a book in one hand and a glass of whiskey on
the table with just a couple of ice cubes in it. He looks around the room to see what was going on
and sees the lieutenant Selgae and the other Lieutenant looking like things could get hairy. Jack
clears his throat to get the attention of the other Lieutenant who was bearing down on Lieutenant
Selgae and gives him a piercing look that would cut most men in half.

The other lieutenants eyes moved over Jack quite clearly weighing him up, to fight him? Did he see
jack as a challenge as a mate for Lieutenant Selgae?

The Lieutenant looked at Jack. "You want her I take it.?"

Selgae mewled as she turned to regard the Lieutenant with her orange, golden eyes before turning
back to the first guy. "Leave me be.." she growled before she hissed at him.

"Have it yer own way den kitty.." and with that he turned away as he went back to the bar.

Jack called over the bartender, "another whiskey and what ever the young lady is drinking please."
Jack asks as he puts his book down on the table and readjust himself in his chair. "Would you like
to come join me Lieutenant?" Jack asks the now alone Lieutenant Selgae.

"Greetings lieutenant I'm Jack Ash-tor, the new Chief Diplomatic Officer. I have just transferred to
the USS Shadow. I am very sorry for the gentleman who you where with before that is not how
one acts towards a lady. Please take a seat." Jack says while pointing to Selgae to take a seat
at the table with him.

Selgae blinked as her tail curled itself around her left leg as she sat down at the chair indicated,
her body language indicated that she was more curious then intimidated or annoyed as the waiter
came over with a glass of Caitian Honey-wine, he gently placed the glass before Selgae who
nodded her thanks. "So... Jack... I'm Selgae." she introduced herself "So... other then my company,
what can I do for you?" she inquired of Ash-tor.

"I was just wondering if you where alright?. You seem on edge and the young lieutenant you where
with...you did not look happy to be with him." Jack replies to Selgae "also I do not know many
people here as I have just transferred to the USS Shadow so I thought I would say hello."

She smiled at him as indicated the departing Lieutenant. "He was... an acquaintance who wanted one
thing only from me... and now he has broken off our relationship permanently." she responded. "some
men, all they want is sex."

"Well that is men for you, most are diicks but they also have one. I am sure it will be his loss, don't
worry about him you will find someone better." Jack replies before taking a sip of his drink. Jack waits
a moment opens his mouth thinks about what he is about to say stops and just smiles, it was a bit
soon to be making them sort of comments to Selgae they had only just meet.

Selgae blinked as she laughed, a kind of huffing sound crossed with a mewl that the average house
cat makes when she's bored and wants attention. "I wish I had your faith but fair enough." she mewled
as she looked down at her drink blankly, she couldn't recall having ordered it.

Jack seeing her confused look, "don't worry I order the drink for you. You will it takes time, all the best
things are worth waiting for." Jack says in a soft caring voice.

She blinked at him. "My fortunes have not been kind recently." she responded with a sigh.

"Don't worry you are still young and there are plenty more fish in the sea." Jack says with a smile back
at her.

"Young... are you married?" Selgae inquired as she gave him a look with her lime green eyes.

"Yes I am married, I also have one child. My wife is the new marine corp XO." Jack replies looking Selgae
in the eye.

She sighed. "A pity." she mewled as she finished off a drink. "Barkeep. another please."

"I'm sorry you find me attractive?" Jack asks going a bit red "please make that a full round" Jack indicates
to the bar tender.

"Your wife would protest, then she would come hunt me down... then one of us would end up getting
hurt.." Selgae responded. "Humans have all the wrong triggers anyway.." she sighed.

"I would never cheat on my wife, if I ever did then...umm I would end up at as the target doll in the
marine firing range and your head would end up on the wall of her quarters." Jack finishes with a laugh.

Selgae raised an eyebrow. "Mmm... possessive." she eyed him carefully. "Is this a wise trait to have in
a mate?" she blinked her large eyes as she sighed, human behavior had often left her dazed and confused.
"How did your kind ever survive to travel the stars?"

"Not possessive, more protective of herself, she just dose not like people who cheat and after our past
experience i do not blame her." Jack says with a more serious tone. "I am not sure how humanity got
to the stars some times to be truthful." Jack looked up and smiled "you do know I'm Betazoid and not
human?"

"It matters not." Selgae responded in a blunt tone. "You all look alike...how does one tell you apart.?" she
inquired, the tips of her teath could be seen as she smiled, indicating this was not a happy smile.

"It can be hard to tell us apart, most people can not tell us apart at first sight or even after talking to
us till we say." Jack says as he sits up in his chair.

"Can be hard... I love how you word that.... you mean its nearly impossible." Selgae commented. "But then
I have on advantage the average girl doesn't... scent." she commented. "you don't smell like the average
Terran... you smell differently."

Jack smiles "thank you, I see it that nothing is impossible or near impossible just really hard. It is something
I have picked up as a diplomat."

Selgae narrowed her eyes. "I'm not sure if what I said was a compliment..." she commented.

Jack thought about it for a moment then opened his mouth to speak but took a drink instead then finally
"I don't know either but thank you." Jack smiles and raises his glass to Selgae

"Alrighty then." she lifted her forgotten glass as she drained a mouth full. "This stuff is good... strong though."

"You seam to be enjoying it, this is also good stuff shame on the vintage but still good." Jack says and then
smells it and offers it to Selgae, "wanna try it?"

She blinked as she regarded him and then the drink. "Mmm... what is it?"

"It is whiskey from Scotland on Earth, this particular bottle is an 18 year old oak from the lowlands." Jack
says looking at the glass he had offered Selgae.

She accepted it, her claws gently clinked as they came into contact with the glass as she lifted it, she then
took a sip, the reaction was almost instant as she almost dropped the glass before gasping a few times.
"Oh god.... thats...horrible.." she gasped for air. "Uhhhh..."

"A bit strong for you?" Jack says with a raised eyebrow and a bit of a giggle. "How you finding life aboard the
shadow?" Jack asks curiously.

"Other then Marines @#!*% around. Not bad actually... my last CO wanted to make me into a statue while the
Exec wanted to bed me." she blinked. "yeah..."

"Don't blame you for transferring over to the USS Shadow, that is just totally unacceptable they did that, the
Marines will be Marines and mostly are muscle heads who don't think first most of the time." Jack looks
shocked on hearing this.

"I wanted something different... before I even got to report aboard.. two of them were @#!*% around and tagged
me with some candy... forcing me to rip off some of my fur... a bald spot on a Caitian is a very serious offense."
Selgae explained. I'm going to get it sorted out though."

"Not good, they are total idiots, I'm very sorry to hear this. Captain Ash-tor will be able to help you and she
will make them pay for there stupidity if you go see her." Jack says almost with a smile but was gone as quick
as it started to form.

"Sure... she can't do anything for me." Selgae responded. "other then make a lot of noise and waste good air."
she waved it away. "In any case it matters not really."

"Have you ever seen grown marines cry? As that is what they will do when she is finished with them for what
they have done to you. The offer is there either way it is up to you" Jack finishes with a friendly smile.

"I will consider it." Selgae admitted, though she was highly tempted to take him up on his offer, just to see what
would happen.

"I would, you know where to find her if you do want to go there. I'm sure it will be entertaining to watch." Jack
smiles coldly.

"But would it be worth it though?" Selgae inquired.

"What is anything worth?" Jacks starts

One moment later, "everything" Jack continues

Another moment passes "nothing" Jack finishes

"Truly anything only has as much weighting as you consider it to." Jack says with a wise air about him.

"A fair point." Selgae admitted. "But wisdom can only penetrate a mind that's open to it."

"Some people are closed minded to it, I just can't see you being someone who is closed minded." Jack replies with a raised eyebrow.

"I try not to be but... with the way some people operate... I have to wonder at times."

"Then you just rise above it, shows that you have the intelligence to be the better person."

"I'd like to claw his face off, tear open his chest and feast..." Selgae admitted. "I am a hunter after all.... an yet I am forced to rise above the insanity of my present station..."

"That you are, but you are also at the same time the better person, by resisting killing them will only make when you do get your own back even more sweet." Jack says with a smile and a sip of his drink.

"Ahhh so revenge is worth it afterall..." she paused. "I could have been a Marine.."

"Revenge is a dish best served cold and sweet." Jack smiles, "well it is not to late to transfer to the corp."

Selgae mused it over. "Considering it." she responded. "Your wife comes across as way too aggressive for my liking though. I doubt she and I would get along as I can't tolerate angry people."

"The thing is we are all always angry. It is just how we use the anger that defines us."

"She might be in control all the time but... her emotional control is not at issue... its her mental and physical control.... she comes across as a walking rage case."

"She is in perfect control, it takes time to know her, she strikes fear into all to start with but when you get to know her she is as harmless as a @#!*% cat. Till you meat her in the field of battle."

"I've observed her, the same as I observe everyone else.... Oh I could tell you think about others that would curl your hair."

"I am interested to know you could tell me about others that I do not know? Everyone is an open book to me from their body language down to there thoughts."

"You can sense emotions.... I can smell pheromones." Selgae commented.

"I Would images that can be quite useful during an interrogation." Jack comments.

"I just sit or stand there and look scary, claws and fangs out, hissing and growling." the female Caitian responded.

"That sounds like an interesting technique, I would imagine it is quite intimidating." Jack responds complementing Selgae

Selgae purred softly as she regarded him. "I find it works for me.... I do not get along with most Marines... I doubt your
mate and I would be able to deal with each other..."

"I think she would surprise you, when you get to know her after serving under her she is not as bad as she looks." Jack pauses slightly "if she was I would not have been married to her for 5 years." Jack finishes, saying that makes him feel old.

Selgae blinked her large eyes as she processed this news. "Indeed sir.... my hypocrisy goes only so far..."

"ok that is fair we are all entitled to our own opinion" jack replies.

"Well.... I had best get going.... I need to turn in... got training tomorrow."

"Very well, it was nice to met you, if you want any time we can always have a drink." Jack says raising his glass to Selgae.

The Caitian female nodded. "Indeed... though next time. lets try something different.." and with that, she rose to her feet and slipped out of the lounge.
