Mission 105: The Mirror, Shattered

Captain Heris Dvald regarded the young woman before her as Lieutenant Kadian Paris was presently going about dealing with the large download of data from the Infinity's main computer core from their brief sojourn to wherever it was that the ship had gone to acquire this infomation. She handed the young woman a rather large mug of hot chocolate. "Your preferred drink when you're busy if I recall correctly?" Dvald smiled at her.
Paris gratefully accepted the drink. "Mmm... Thank you, Doctor. Yep... Nothing like sugar when you're working." she commented with a smile. "The download is coming along and I should have this infomation sorted out for you within the hour," Paris explained as she took a sip. "Mmmm... Tastes different."
"I thought you might try something a little different. I added a Bolian fruit extract. Kalin to be more specific, it's similar to a Terran orange, only it's more like a grapefruit in size, I feel the flavor is a bit stronger but one's mileage may vary." she explained. "If it's not to your liking, I'll go fetch you another."
"I appreciate you thinking of me in the first place... It's a little sweet... But it's not bad actually." Paris explained before she lifted the large mug to her lips and then proceeded to down another large mouthful. "Mmmm... It's growing on me..."
"So does a fungus," Dvald commented with a smile. "That doesn't mean its good for you."
"An extra hour in the gym will cure that issue," Paris answered. "Besides... it could be worse," she added.
"Yes..." Dvald answered in a tone that could dry out Pacifica in one smooth motion. "You wanting to date Morg Wolfsong went as well as I expected."
Paris regarded Dvald with a measure of trepidation. "How do you know about that?" she asked quietly as she regarded the tall Bolian before her.
"Oh, I know everything that happens in my hospital dear," Dvald answered with a gentle smile. "So how does it look, do you think we got any duds in there?"
"It's hard to say really. I will need more time to go over it. But there is a lot of genetic infomation in here that we can use, maybe we can help postpone the inevitable at the very least." Paris commented. "I will need to go through the infomation... With the help of the Chief, it will take me a while... Several hours maybe... If I was doing it alone, it would take me months."
Dvald regarded the young woman. "Do you and the Chief get along?" she inquired in a curious tone of voice. "I've heard the usual complaints about him... Something about having a sentient computer program wandering the halls of the Starbase."
"I have nothing against him. So he's an intelligent computer system, he is a Starfleet engineered holo-program from another reality who ended up in this one, we're the ones with the issues, not him... The base computer runs smoother and is much more efficient then it was before." she commented. "My work goes a lot smoother then it used to. I get things done much faster than before... I was finally able to give Doctor Yamaguchi-Solusar an answer to the question that had been plaguing her."
"Nice, that explains why she seems more relaxed and calm now," Dvald answered.
"I try to help where I can," Paris answered with a smile. "The download is almost ninety percent done... You should be able to hold your meeting on time at aobut fifteen hundred hours. Do you want me there?" she asked, it was a legitimate question as Dvald nodded her head. "I do. I want you to lead one of the teams," she commented. "You've not had a chance to stand out from the pack, this is your chance to do so... You've been wanting something important to do for a while. A real challenge, tone perfectly suited to your rather unique skill set." Dvald commented with a smile. "Well, you got your chance."
"I wasn't going to word it quite like that." Paris paused, it made it sound like she was determined to showcase her worth and skills to all doubters. All the naysayers and anyone who disliked her. "You make it sound like a bad thing."
"I would. Kadian, you are a research scientist first and a doctor second." Dvald answered. "Your training has taken a different route to most, that's not a bad thing..." Now you'll be leading the effort to save a species." Dvald commented. "I know I am asking a great deal of you. If you need assistance or help, let me know alright.?"
"I will, thank you, Doctor," Paris answered with a gentle smile on her lips. The display suddenly beeped at her. "Alright, the download is completed. I'm going to spend the next while and go through it really briefly."
"Alright," Dvald answered. The tall Bolian tapped her combadge. "Dvald to all front desk.?"
"Go ahead Doctor." came the response.
"Inform all active medical staff that there will be a briefing in the main briefing room at fifteen hundred hours. Code Four," she commented.
"Copy that Doctor, They will be informed. Front Desk out."
Paris raised an eyebrow. "Well. I'd best get to it. I'll see you there Doctor."
Dvald nodded as she rose to her feet and departed in silence.
