Mission:
Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Tienn Homestead - Utgarde IV
Timeline: 1830Hrs - September 18th, 2393
Director Benice Gyce smiled as she strolled out into the back area where the firepit was being prepared. Tienn Corat smiled as he regarded her. "Hey Tienn..." he addressed Benice Gyce before he quickly recalled that she didn't wear their family name, at least not officially. He paused. "Oh... I'm... I'm really sorry Director... Umm... " he paused. "I should go."
"No. It's okay..." Gyce answered with a gentle smile. "I am married to a Tienn... and her family, yours seem to have accepted me as one of their own... I should consider it." she smiled as she regarded the Cardassian teenager before her, he was still all lines and angles and while he was almost a fully grown man, he had yet to start filling out.
"So... Umm... You're not mad at me?" Corat inquired.
"No, you reminded me of something I had without even realizing I had the right to have it. A family of my own..." Gyce answered. "I cannot be angry about that..." the older white-skinned female slowly smiled as she considered it. "Tienn Gyce... It has a certain ring to it."
Iteela approached. "Hey, guys... I think mom is looking for you Corat, she was asking me about it just now."
"Oh, right." and with that, he turned and moved off quickly. Gyce turned. "Everything alright?" she inquired of her spouse.
"Corat tends to get a little overwhelmed at times, and I wasn't lying either. Mom actually is looking for him." she smiled as she regarded her spouse. "Ahh, just the two of us, alone at last... I wish you were coming with me on the Cassini." Iteela admitted as she sat down in one of the chairs, clearly, she wanted to enjoy the moment with her spouse in the early evening sunshine, it was warm but not too hot and nor was it too bright either. Gyce took a seat next to her wife. Gyce turned to regard her. "Corat did say something to me that got me thinking."
"He didn't do to you what Ulani said to him and Ezas...?" Iteela paused as her spouse quickly assured him it was nothing of the kind, in fact, he had told her that Gyce was a part of this member as he had addressed her as Tienn and not as Benice.
Iteela slowly smiled. "Well... I never mentioned it as I figured you would make that choice on your own..." she paused. "But since you are considering it. What say you?" she smiled at her spouse. "I think Corat's comment could be seen as a ringing endorsement."
"It is." Tienn Jaina commented in a soft tone of voice.
"Mother. I didn't hear you." Iteela answered with a nod.
"Learning to move in silence has been quite helpful in regards to my household. The children tend to behave better if they think I'm around and they also speak more softly." the oldest female present commented as she slid her lithe form into the third chair. "But Corat told me of what he said... He apologizes for his affront."
"No offence was taken." Gyce smiled back. "Being called Tienn is a blessing actually, one I did not realize I was permitted to have."
"May I ask why not Gyce?" Jaina inquired of her daughter-in-law. Iteela knew this as the look on her face indicated that this was all old territory for her, she knew all of this and so she decided to allow Gyce her space on the matter, "I fought in the resistance... I've killed, I've watched people I love die... I've seen far too much bloodshed in my life... and I've buried the last of my kin... I have no home to call my own."
Tienn Jaina regarded her daughter a moment as Gyce spoke. Iteela's expression indicated that she had known all of this and nothing was a major revelation for her as she turned her attention back to Gyce. "Bajor isn't home for me anymore... I have nothing left... Other than my work... and her." she indicated her spouse with her left hand. "Also, her children are also my children."
Jaina smiled slowly. "You are a Tienn..." she commented evenly. "You are kin to me and mine... and you have a home here if you wish it..." she knew that this was rather sensitive ground to be walking on but she knew this had to be said.
"I do." Gyce paused. "There is something here... I can't even begin to describe it... Here, I feel... almost free... almost at peace with myself."
"Good. That's our stock in trade. Overhead, Starfleet protects us but here on this world. we are free to live as we choose and while I sometimes miss the mountains of home... This is my home..." Jaina explained. "Here... I will make my home, my children will do likewise and so will their children... Oh, Bajor will have a place in my heart... But Utgarde is my home now."
There was a soft set of footfalls as a second Bajoran female emerged from the shadows, this one looked a little overweight around the middle but this wasn't fat, it was her pregnancy and now in her fourth month of a pregnancy that was expected to last five months. "Hey, guys. am I interrupting?" Nerra inquired before her twin greeted her with a hug, Gyce then got a hug as well before her mother did.
"Nah. Have a seat and take a few minutes," Jaina commented. "Almar will be along shortly with the food, and we can start dinner."
Just then the other children were starting to gather as Pettar emerged from the house, Corat followed and both were carrying two large containers each with food. "Dinners about to start folks, everyone take a seat." and with that, he opened the lid to the large BBQ pit and he went to work. within moments the scent of cooked food began to flow and within minutes, the mouths of everyone nearby were starting to water.
Jaina smiled as she knew what was coming. "Mmm... That smells amazing... see this Gyce, my dear is what we enjoy... Not that replicated food that they feed you on the Starbase... We cook our food..."
"I've not smelt anything like this in years..." Gyce said with a smile. "I think I am going to enjoy living on this world." she added with a smile.
