Mission:
Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Main Hanger - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 0800Hrs - May 20th, 2393
Captain Tirothyn R'Shav was the acting Chief Medical Officer for Starbase Vanguard. Today she was meeting the woman who would be reliving her as Tirothyn would become her assistant Chief Medical Officer for the base, but her work would mostly be on the planet based settlement rather then here on the base, it was an arrangement that was going to be a little different but the Caitian female had no issues with it, she had no idea if the Bolian did.
The tall, slender Caitian female stood in silence in the observation area just forward of the primary hanger space. The Caitian wore her uniform well but that was only because of her thin fur which didn't really cover everything but in her case, it kept her warm and well covered so nothing stupid could happen, other Caitian breeds like Snow Leopards and others had really thick fur so they didn't really have to bother with uniforms but R'Shav and others like her had little choice in the matter. It also didn't hurt that R'Shav preferred wearing her clothing.
The tall Caitian held a PADD in her long claws as the com system announced the arrival of Shuttle Heavy One One Two from Starbase Watchman with a consignment of personal being delivered for Starbase Vanguard. R'Shav looked up at this news before she moved over to the observation viewport, it showed the inside of the massive hanger space with shuttles coming and going all the time, some were delivering items like supplies and personnel while others, mostly empty, were departing for spaces unknown to R'Shav.
Meanwhile on the shuttle itself. Heris was busy tugging on her uniform's boots while Ranav was busy checking his gear that he had brought with him from Watchman Station, the teenagers were already packed and ready to go. "I never thought I'd hate traveling so much," Darzana commented with a soft sigh.
"That's because you ran out of things to do. I did tell you to bring a couple of books." Heris said to her daughter in a mild tone of voice.
Duran was sitting in his chair, while he finished the last pages of the book he had been reading. "It could always be worse, mom. After all, security is mortals chiefest enemy," he commented, quoting human writers work at her. Heris raised an eyebrow in surprise as she had not been expecting it.
Ranax chuckled softly. "Shakespeare. I had no idea you were a fan."
"Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires," Duran commented. "For I seeketh a hot Bolian woman to bed and wed." he then grinned at his parents.
Heris blinked. "I'm sure he didn't say that last bit," she commented to her husband who nodded. "Oh, but he did," Ranav answered with a soft chuckle.
Dorin chuckled. "He's screwing with you, mom." before he turned to his twin. "I'm sure there are many Bolian girls for you to bed."
"I am sure you'll have fun," Syldra responded in a dry tone of voice, the youngest of her children, Heris noted, was not the easiest to deal with."But, do remember to be gentle. I'm sure your bedmate will appreciate that." there was something in her tone of voice as if she knew where she spoke.
"Guys. Please?" Halora inquired, she was a year old then Syldra and while she had nothing against competing with her sibling, she did not like arguments breaking out among her siblings, especially over stupid and trivial things, of which this was one such example.
"Attention, all personnel, this is your Captain speaking, we have arrived, everyone please prepare for landing. So if you will all take your seas please."
Heris, her husband and four of her children were already seated but her second eldest child was the one who was still standing. Halora paused before Heris added. "Sit down honey."
Halora slipped her lithe form into her seat as the starlines faded back into stars before the new world that the Dvald's would call home, came into view. "So... Hello, whatever you are called," Duran commented softly. "A lovely world," he added.
Dorin peered through the viewport, looking over his brother's shoulder. "Lots of colors. Interesting." he mused aloud.
Heris shrugged. "Not all worlds look like Bolarus or Myrmidon," she explained evenly. "Each world is unique in all its splendor and horror,"
she added as her children all decided to process that sentence in their own unique ways. "What do you mean by that mom.?"
Duran answered for her. "Each world is special in its own way, each is also hideous in its own way," he explained. "What the Humans like, I might not like."
"Ahh," Darzana commented. "I guess that makes a certain amount of sense when put like that." the teenage girl responded before she added. "One man's prize is another man's junk."
"Exactly," Ranav responded. "But that still takes away none of the wonders of the sight of it," he added as the massive Starbase herself, came into view. "Well. What do you think of this place?" he asked all of his children.
Various responses came back like "Oooh" and "Ahh." but it was Syldra who impressed him. "Well Dad, it looks impressive but looks at all the ships here that are being built. That's the best part."
The Shuttle meanwhile closed on its final destination, the pilots got clearance to land in one of the hangers of Starbase Vanguard and soon the shuttle had landed.
"Attention all personnel, we have arrived, thank you for flying with us." came the announcement over the com system as the dozen or so personnel assembled began moving for the exits. Heris and her family were among then, what seemed like moments later they were moving through the Starbase's hanger and into the observation area. "Captain Heris Dvald?" a voice suddenly inquired. Taking all of the Dvald's present by surprise.
"Yes?" Heris Dvald answered she found herself regarding a tall female Caitian officer, wearing a teal uniform and the rank of Captain. "Welcome aboard, I'm Captain Tirothyn R'Shav. It's good to meet you, Captain."
"You too Captain. I assume you're my new boss?" Heris Dvald inquired of the Caitian female before her.
"Actually no. You are my successor, the actual Chief Medical Officer for this assignment. I'll be serving as your right hand or left hand, whichever you prefer and I'll be looking after the planetside settlement, handling housecalls and the like." R'Shav answered. "We can handle the changeover and your promotion when you report in," she added. "I didn't know you'd be bringing your family, was IFO feeling generous?"
"I honestly have no idea, I never asked Admiral St John that." the Bolian female paused. "I suspect I would have gotten a rather stupid answer like 'I send people wherever the hell I like.' Or something to that effect." the tall Bolian female responded, with a soft sigh in her tone.
"Yes, I keep hearing about Admiral St John, how he has a job is honestly beyond me," R'Shav answered. "He's sent a few people around between various assignments and they all speak poorly of him. I had my theories about him but its best if I leave them unsaid."
Heris was many things but she was no fool. "I understand." she turned to Ranav. "Why don't you head on down to the Operations and Quartermasters guys and get our new quarters assignment, I will catch up with you later okay?."
"Sounds good." and with that, he nodded to R'Shav before he turned to their children. "Come on guys, grab your things and let's go," he commented as he led the five children out the door, turning left, they six Bolians moved off down the hallway, leaving Heris alone with R'Shav. "Husband and children?"
"Yes. I have no co-spouses and neither does he. Ranav has made it clear that he prefers only me." Dvald explained, a gentle smile on her lips.
"Nice of him," R'Shav responded. "In any event, I'm not going to make you start work right this second, you'll have all of today to settle in but you start your first real shift tomorrow. I am prepared to give you a quick tour of sickbay and we can handle matters at the same time."
Dvald raised an eyebrow. "I was honestly expecting the tour and then starting work."
"Only humans do that stunt, work their guys to death and they get pissy when others don't do it," R'Shav responded. "The Admiral won't be too upset that you aren't starting right away and the base won't be operational for at least another three weeks and besides, most of the senior staff are not present either but the new Exec sees things my way so there is no need to make you work extra for nothing." the Caitian explained evenly. "On a side note, I have your sibling here doing paperwork for me."
"I thought Siaxx was off on the Stalingrad. What happened?" Heris inquired, alarm in her tone.
"Starfleet felt we needed a new colonial liaison specialist since the person who was in that post is off at OCS at present. She might come back to work for Siaxx, assuming that Siaxx is still around." R'Shav answered. "Siaxx got shafted good."
"I'd agree. Siaxx got fucked around good by various people and then she got demoted without cause and stripped of her command. Then she got assigned under Bremer's command as one of his junior medical officers." Dvald explained. "She's seen a lot and she needs time to sort things out. Fortunately, I can assist with her."
"Would you?." The Caitian commented. "That would be just stellar. She needs to be reminded that people care and we can't get through to her."
"Leave her to me," Dvald answered, a grin on her face. "Or rather, leave her to my children. If I know my sons, they are actively looking for their aunt, even now. As we speak" she then smiled at the Caitian.
"That bad huh?" R'Shav sighed softly. "Lovely."
"They care and they know about her issues," Dvald explained. "I told them and so they want to visit with their aunt."
"Alright, then I'll leave it in your hands," R'Shav answered. "Again, welcome aboard," she responded. "Alright, that tour then. Shall we?" the Caitian inquired.
"Yes, Doctor," Dvald answered, a gentle smile on her lips. "After you. I'm going to go track down my sibling but not yet. I'll let my children go pester her first." and with that, the two moved out of the hangar bay, together.
