Posted on Fri Mar 20th, 2020 @ 6:07pm by Fleet Admiral Heather Duval & Commander Beth Woerner

Mission: Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Commanding Officers Ready Room - USS Daedalus
Timeline: 1845Hrs - September 5th, 2393

Commander Bethany Woerner smiled as she slid her lithe and slender form into the chair behind her desk, in the ready room that she enjoyed calling her own, she gently tapped her combadge. "Woerner to Zhang," she commented.

"Zhang here, what can I do for you sir?" the Asian woman seated presently at the Operations station responded, Woerner knew that she would be going off watch shortly, and she didn't wish to keep her. "Could you open a channel to Fleet Admiral Duval on Vanguard. I need to brief her before we make it into port tomorrow morning."

"Yessir, placing your call now." came the answer as Woerner settled in for the wait, which she knew would be short, she tapped the large wall monitor once, activating it and letting the computer know that she wished to use it rather than the desktop on her desk.

A few moments went by when suddenly, the screen lit up with the face of an older dark-skinned female human, she smiled as she regarded Woerner. "Captain, what can I do for you?" Duval inquired.

"Well. I need two replacement personal but that's not why I'm calling you. We got into a fistfight with the Borg. I will have my reports finished by the time we make port tomorrow... We recovered ninety-six people from the USS Relentless, a ship that was stranded here along with a Borg sphere." she explained. "The Borg Sphere was destroyed but we were boarded. I lost three crew-members to their actions," she explained evenly.

"I assume these ninety-six people have paperwork for them?" Duval inquired evenly, she knew she had other issues to address but she would handle them in order of severity, she noted that since Woerner seemed cool, calm and collected that the Borg were not the most serious concern to address.

"Yessir, they do... and that's not all. We have a Federation made sentient AI, he's been a great help with sorting out my ship's computer issues, in fact... He has made the Daedalus into something beyond even my expectations... and they have the paperwork to make more Ai's like the Chief."

"The Chief... Sounds like you are taken with him." Duval smiled. "Do you think he can be useful?"

"Why don't I let the Chief speak to you for himself," Woerner commented. "Chief?"

"There was a sudden electrical buzzing sound as a massively armored figure appeared in the room, he looked to be wearing an armored battlesuit that was not Starfleet issue. "You wanted me skipper?" he regarded Woerner with a nod.

Woerner indicated Duval on the screen with a wave of her left hand. "Chief, this is Fleet Admiral Heather Duval, she's the commander of the Starfleet forces in this region." she paused. "Admiral, this is the Chief."

Duval blinked as she regarded the Chief with a combination of curiosity and concern. "Hello ... Chief. Is that your designation?"

"Hello Admiral, no my designation is Starfleet Advisor Oh One slash Four Two Five with the name of Master Chief being an attachment thanks to my previous commanding officer assigning it to me, as I was assisting with those duties while assigned to the Relentless," he explained. "The name stuck and everyone has been calling me 'Chief' ever since."

"I understand... Chief." Duval paused. "Do we have anything to fear?"

"I am Starfleet made Admiral. I serve the ship I am on, not the other way around." he paused. "However I am also fully sentient. I am able to serve in any posting required of me."

"Fascinating. I know we have a research program in place to look at Starship AI's to handle the computer systems, you might have just given them what they needed to make the system work."

"I will serve where needed Admiral. I also have the information needed to make more." The Chief answered evenly. "In the time I have been here, I have looked up the entire span of recorded Federation history, I like what I see... I will serve where needed."

Duval regarded him with a cool look. "Just like that?"

"Yes Admiral, just like that."

Woerner took that moment to interject herself back into the chat. "I thought it best that you two meet."

"Sounds like you had quite an adventure Captain. I will assign you replacement personnel as needed, who did you lose.?" Duval inquired.

"I lost my SCE liaison officer and my Chief of the Boat, along with one security officer. The Borg threat was dealt with and will not arise again." Woerner commented evenly.

"I understand," Duval answered evenly as she shifted her attention to the hologram, standing before her. "I look forward to meeting you Chief. You will be of great use to Starfleet in general and to my command in particular." Duval paused. "I look forward to reading your final report Captan." the older female added. "Its good to meet you Chief.

"Thanks, Chief."

There was that same electronical buzzing sound as the Chief faded away. Woerner turned back to the screen. "I look forward to being able to deliver said report Admiral, I wanted to give you the heads up that this will be rather unusual report," Woerner answered with a smile.

Duval smiled as she regarded Woerner. "I wanted to ask you one other thing... How was your Exec during your assignment?." she asked suddenly becoming rather serious.

"Commander Ral has been invaluable during his time aboard, he has a wealth of experience that's been wasted," Woerner commented. "Why do you ask?"

"I'm wondering because I feel he should be offered command of a capital ship and be given back his rank of Captain," Duval explained evenly.

"Nice, he'll have earned it." Woerner slowly grinned as she regarded the other woman with a look of something akin to affection. "I assume we will discuss this more at length in person?" the small Frenchwoman inquired.

"We will Captain. I look forward to it... and meeting the Chief in person." Duval answered. "I will leave you to it. Duval out." and with that, the com system went dead. Woerner smiled as she picked up a PADD and went to work in silence.
