Durin sat down next to her father. "I went into Starfleet." as she proceeded to help herself to the food as she spoke. "Not because you drove me away but that was a part of it, but because I wasn't happy being on Bajor, I wanted something different. I wanted to see the stars and seek my own path to enlightenment," she commented. "You didn't like me being with Mvok."
"I was prideful and arrogant," Koll answered evenly as he sighed softly, he ate another mouthful of food to cover the fact that he had no idea what to say to his daughter, to explain away his actions, an apology just didn't seem like enough. "I'm Sorry Durin."
"Accepted," Durin answered. "I stayed away, not because of what you did or said to me but because I still have so much to see and do out there... But I'll do it among the stars... Someday I'll earn command of my own starship, maybe it'll be a science vessel and maybe it'll be a Supercarrier. It all depends on where my path takes me. You taught me to value the journey and the path that takes me there."
Jerric nodded in agreement. "Well Koll, you've managed to break the brains of everyone in this room." he paused. "But I'm not going to sit in judgment over you, as its not my place... Kosst, even if I could, I still wouldn't as I couldn't do it... But you did..."
"I did, yes," Koll answered he knew that Jerric would be his harshest critic and he felt that his brother had the right to say his piece. "I honestly, have no idea what to make of this sudden change in you Koll. You have been completely unreasonable for quite a long time now..."
Koll nodded in agreement. "That's why I must leave Bajor. I must find a new path out there."
Iteela regarded him, warm in her eyes. "Why don't you join Starfleet?. You have skills that can be of use."
"Starfleet is demanding," Durin commented with a nod. "But you will be able to find your path with much greater ease."
Koll considered it. "No. I need time to be myself and not spend all my time serving someone else." he paused. "Spending some time on Utgarde can assist me with this effort," he admitted.
Kenris nodded. "For what its worth Koll. You had good intentions in serving others but the road to kosst is paved with them, you should consider doing something else. Maybe joining the Militia or Starfleet might help.. Don't discount it, think about it while you seek your path my son," Kenris explained evenly.
"I will father," Koll answered with a nod.
The door opened and in walked Tienn Prinu, following her was Tienn Marja. Koll regarded the two new arrivals in silence. "Oh, hey ladies," Kenrus commented. "Have a seat and join us. Durin made breakfast today."
Prinu grinned. "Sound...Koll, what in Kosst are you doing here!" she demanded of him.
Koll indicated his sister-in-law with his hand. "Now that alone makes my morning worth it," he added in a rather light jovial tone of voice.
"Ladies, take a seat," Leran commented evenly. "Koll had a rather serious epiphany and now he's unemployed."
Marja regarded her husband with a soft sigh. "They kicked you out," she said quietly.
"No. I resigned. They were actually prepared to violate their own rules for me, I've had... enough of accepting compromises in exchange for the continuance of my former path... I resigned from the order and the shrine. I needed to set the proper example... I have committed a great many misdeeds..." Koll commented. "My service to Bajor was blinding me to the harm I was causing you and to our children." as he indicated Durin who smiled at her mother. "It's been an interesting morning, mother" she added.
"You two are... being civil to... each other," Marja commented. "I gotta sit down." she sighed as she slid her lithe form into a chair. "I don't know what to say."
"Yeah, we've been sitting here the whole time and even we're not sure," Nerra commented lightly.
Leran regarded his sister-in-law. "Koll came in here and told us that he had resigned from the order. It was a major shock for us all, one we're still processing."
"I'll believe it," Marja answered quietly. "You and I, we must talk."
Koll nodded. "Yes, we do," he answered evenly. "Shall we?" he inquired of her.
"Guys, I'm going to steal Koll and we're going to go for a stroll." as Koll finished his food. He then rose to his feet, he rose to his feet. "Thanks for sharing breakfast," Koll said in a light tone, and with that, he turned and walked out the door with his wife in tow.
Durin sat in stunned silence. "Does anyone else feel that this is really weird.?" the young woman inquired.
"Yeah," Nerra commented. "Had you told me this was going to happen, I'd have laughed at you and promptly dismissed it."
"He will not change lightly or easily," Jerric commented evenly. "It's too much and too soon." he breathed out and then back in again. "But he's still my brother. But I would be remiss if I didn't say we can expect him to go through a major period of adjustment in his life."
Yes, he has. But at least he is willing to admit his mistakes and errors." Kenris commented in a light tone. "Let's not lose sight of the fact that he apologized to you Durin in front of all of us." he regarded his granddaughter. "Durin, he could have asked you to step outside and apologized to you privately, it would have changed things for you but not for us... I think we all needed to see and hear his plight." Kenris paused a moment. "Besides, has anyone ever known Koll to do that?" he paused. "Apologize to anyone."
There was silence as Iteela was the one who commented. "Not in my memory, can I recall Koll ever once apologizing for anything ever."
"Exactly," Kenris responded quietly. "So we all should keep in mind that he's going through a lot right now and we need to keep in mind that he's changing..." he paused as he decided to soldier on through what he wanted to say. "I once said, he would never change and he would never lighten up, I was wrong. He seems to be doing just that so we should all help him with the matter..."
Nerra nodded. "I have already tried to tell my kits that they should treat everyone the same, I would be a hypocrite if I didn't practice what I preach." she paused. "His actions have caused Iteela and me, both great harm. But he's still my brother." she paused. "We should hear him out and see what he does."
