Fearful Symmetry - Part Three

Posted on Fri Jun 30th, 2023 @ 12:50pm by Division Admiral Talon Yeager & Lieutenant Commander Jerome Hunt & Post Captain Davijaan "Oddball" Yeager

Mission: Mission 112: The Heart of a Truth Long Lost
Location: Various Locations - USS Shinano
Timeline: 1020Hrs - January 11th, 2394

Division Admiral Talon Yeager had a funny feeling that she knew who Captain T'Nae Duval would send to deliver the paperwork she had been expecting on this particular day of the week. The USS Shinanno had been tasked with handling the matters in the Cantrel System. These were now tended to and completed.

Now the Shinano was off to her next stop, as she tended to draw assignments in setting up transwarp gates. These needed to be looked after and protected, especally after being connected to the Federation transwarp gate network. This effort was still slowly being improved as new gates were being constructed all over the Federation, and new infrastructure was being built or improved to tend to the matters of travel. What once took weeks or even months, could now take seconds or minutes with the tapping of a few dozen buttons.

With a little energy and a little time. Goods could arrive at their new location with a minimum of fuss.

Freight traffic was already reacting to meet new deadlines and the capability of hauling more cargo to new locations meant more markets and new places could get new cargo very quickly. Thus the civilian demand for these gates was increasing. This meant that people like Talo and the ships o the Vishal class would be in demand for years to come.

All of this new infrastructure would require round-the-clock protection. This was something that the Starfighter command had already been assigned to look after. Most of their new bases and facilities were near these gates and Starbases. The vast majority of their new places were planetside bases.

Yeager sat down in her chair. She let out a soft sigh as she knew that at least she had something to look forward to, should this assignment go bust on her. She could get a job as an Engineer. She seemed to be good with her hands. This was something she missed. "I should have been an engineer, rather than a tactical officer. Maybe I would have gotten further with my career." Yeager said aloud. The walls of her office didn't deign her worthy of an answer, so she was once again ignored.

Yeager sighed softly. Suddenly the doorbell beeped at her. "It's Open!" she called. The doors opened and in walked her husband, following him was a man right out of her own past. Talon found herself regarding Lt Commander Jerome Hunt, a man right out of her own history as the man she had married, she had two children with him and then he had abused her and dent her adopted daughter into care. Without her permission. 'Stop it!' Talon demanded of herself. 'This isn't the man who hurt her and tormented you.' Her inner voice reminded her.

Captain Davijaan Yeager regarded his spouse, he could almost see her thoughts racing behind her eyes. "Tee. You okay?" he asked of her.

"Yeah," Talon responded quietly. "Commander, welcome aboard. I apologize for not meeting you in the transporter room myself. I had an issue to tend to." she explained. It was a lie but a small one. She was afraid of the man before her. Not because of what he had done which had been nothing but what the other Jerome Hunt had done. The one who was now dead.

Hunt offered her the PADD in his hands. "It's fine, Admiral. I appreciate the respect but it's not needed. You are a busy woman and I do not wish to be demanding of you or your time." He frowned at her but it was only a moment longer. Before he quickly schooled his face back to a measure of impassiveness. Those who didn't know him would have dismissed it but for those who did. This was a major display of emotion.

Talon accepted the PADD with her fingers. "Nice. This will aid me greatly. Captain Duval was able to bring me all of the items and parts I wanted in one go. Very nice." She paused as she breathed out and then back in again. "Okay. Now that the preamble is out of the way. Let's address the main event. Why we are all here." she paused. Turning her attention to Jerome Hunt. "You'll forgive me if I say that I had never expected to see you ever grace my door," Talon commented. "I know what you faced when you arrived. I know what you still face."

Hunt regarded the woman before him. One part of him resented her while the other half still lusted after her. Yes, this woman was older and had grey hair. She was also still Talon Yamaguchi. "Permission to speak freely. Ma'am?" he asked of her. The protocol had to be observed.

Talon shrugged as she regarded the man before her. "By all means, Jerome. Speak your mind." she knew what he was about to say was going to be good.
