Division Admiral Tom Lasky rose to his feet. He picked up a PADD, he then gave it the once over. The information contained within it was the real deal. He smiled as he departed his office.
Lasky decided that he would not put this off any longer. His next stop was the JAG offices under the command of Captain Harmon Rabb.
Lasky Reached his destination a short time later. Lasky regarded Rabb's aide. "Hello, Chief. Is the Captain in?" he asked, a gentle smile on his face.
"Admiral." Chief Petty Officer John Williams answered. "Captain Rabb is presently doing some paperwork but he does have a meeting at the top of the hour. Could I ask what it's in regards to?"
"It's in regards to an officer who I felt was slighted with an illegal demotion. I wanted to only take a few minutes and place the PADD on his desk and explain the particulars to the Captain."
Williams paused a moment before he nodded. "Alright. But the Captain does have an appointment at the top of the hour." he paused. "When the time comes. I will have to ask you to depart... But you got about twenty minutes."
"Thank you, Chief. I'll only need ten at most." Lasky answered with a nod of his head. He knew his rank meant nothing in other people's domain. Reputation is an idle and most false imposition; oft got without merit, and lost without deserving. He knew.
Williams nodded his head. "Alright. Go on in sir."
"Defer no time, delays have dangerous ends," Lasky answered before he turned, he walked into Rabb's office. "Tom. What's on your mind?" Rabb asked of his visitor that he had not been expecting.
"I don't have much time and you're a busy man. So I'll come right to the point." Lasky answered with a smile as he placed the PADD in his hands. "I bring another officer for you to take a look at. I am told that her rank was reduced for no reason. I don't want to start screwing with things. I'd like your thoughts on it before I offer her an assignment under my command."
Rabb regarded Lasky in silence while he picked up the PADD. He gave it the once over. He narrowed his eyes. "Does this officer know you are in here, talking to me now?"
"At present. No." Lasky commented. "Commander Ethan Duval wants her to transfer from the Marines into Starfleet and become his new Executive officer for the USS Gaarni," he added.
Rabb nodded his head. "I can see here that her rank was reduced. I don't see a reason why." Rabb's eyes narrowed. "I'll look into it. In the meantime, tell Commander Duval that I have nothing against offering the Captain a job in Starfleet."
"Thank you Harm," Lasky answered with a nod of his head.
"I won't be able to get you an answer right away. But I have a feeling that when I get to this one... If my guess is correct, however. You will want an answer sooner rather than later." Rabb added as he placed the PADD onto his desk.
"Preferably." Lasky paused. "Sorry Harm."
"No worries," Rabb answered. "Is there anything else?"
"Nope. Thats all I wanted. Thanks for your time Harm." Lasky answered. "There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so," he added.
"Indeed. All the worldâs a stage, and all the men and women are merely players. They have their exits and their entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts." Rabb answered with a gentle smile. "Sarah has been educating me in the fine arts of Shakespeare."
Lasky grinned. "Well played sir."
Rabb grinned. "Sarah and I were both trading quips and barbs last night. But she doesn't have the innate talent for it, that you do."
"Well. Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once." Lasky answered. "I'm gonna get out of here and let you get back to the work that I just added to." With that. Lasky turned and departed.
He nodded to the Chief at the desk. "Thank you, Chief."
"No worries Admiral," Williams answered. Lasky departed without further comment. He made his way towards the nearby bank of turbolifts. Lasky smiled as he tapped his combadge that was affixed to his chest. "This is Admiral Lasky to Ethan Duval," he commented.
"Duval here. Go ahead, Admiral." came the expected response.
"The request is on Captain Rabb's desk. I asked him to put a rush on it. He says he will get back to me soonest but he has no issues with you offering your request to the officer in question. Proceed with your plan. Keep me informed."
"Willdo sir. Thanks." Duval answered.
"Good luck Ethan. Lasky out." and with that, Lasky tapped his combadge. Terminating the com channel.
