Pomp and Regrets - Part Nine

Posted on Wed Aug 31st, 2022 @ 6:31am by Commander John 'Nuke Em' Sheridan & Lieutenant JG Loreza Martell & Lieutenant Savannah Yamaguchi

Mission: Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - USS Spirit of Winter
Timeline: 1330Hrs - November 27th, 2393

Lieutenant JG Loreza Martell was rushing to her destination. Martell hated rushing as she was sure to forget something, she hated forgetting things as it left her in a state of discombobulation. Martell hated disorder. 'Loreza, you hate many things. Stop worrying about it.' she thought to herself while she passed several viewports that looked out over the space around Utgarde IV.

Martell knew that the USS Spirit of Winter was still docked just up head at the nearby airlock. Her orders had called for her to drop what she was doing and head to this assignment as quickly as possible. What was worse was that Martell knew there would be problems with this assignment. She had never served on a starship of the line as a senior officer and department head before and she had also never run a sickbay before. This was going to be an issue she would need to contend with.

Martell approached her destination as she pulled out the PADD which contained her orders. "Permission to go aboard guys?" she asked of the two security guards looking after the airlock.

"Could we see your orders ma'am?" the Ensign asked while the other man with him gave Martell the quick once over. The security checks which Martell knew were now a mainstay of the fleet and had been since the end of the war with the Dominion.

Martell nodded while she handed the PADD over. He gave it the once over before he handed it back to her. "Thank you, ma'am."

"She's clean sir." the petty officer gave the Ensign a thumbs up.

"Thanks, ma'am." the Ensign addressed her while he handed Martell her PADD back.

Martell knew she had a few stops to make before she could report for duty. Stop one was the quartermaster's office which she visited first. She quickly obtained the keys to her new home before going to drop off her gear and then take a moment to freshen up before she would report in.

Martell walked out of her new home before she made her way up to the bridge. She took a moment to look around before she walked over to the ready room door and tapped the buzzer once.

"Enter," Sheridan said, his voice dropped into a rough growl that hinted at the type of day he'd had, as he retrieved a cup of coffee from the replicator. He crossed through the seating area and down two steps and had just reached his desk when the door opened. He smiled as he knew that this would be the Doctor who was here to replace Fleur.

Martell entered the room, she moved to the front of his desk. PADD in hand. "Lieutenant Rain Walking Bear, reporting for duty sir," she explained quietly. "My orders, sir." as she placed her PADD onto the desk before him and her.

"Have a seat, Lieutenant," Sheridan said as he leaned forward to pick up the PADD. He took a moment to read over her orders and then looked up at her over the edge of the device. "Due to recent events with the Tholians. All families with children are being reassigned off of Starfleet ships in this region. Orders from Fleet Admiral Duval. This is why you are here." he explained. He set the PADD down and considered her. "I know it's a bit last minute. But I'm told you are more than qualified and ready for the posting."

JGMartell relaxed instantly before she pulled back the chair and then she slid her lithe form into it. She raised an eyebrow with the revelation that she was replacing someone else. "That explains a great many things, Captain," she responded in a gentle tone of voice. "How is the crew taking all of this insanity or... Should I not ask?" she inquired.

"Truthfully, I don't know," Sheridan said. "It's been a lot, losing four members of my senior staff within hours. The crew will see some drama from this. How bad will it be?. I don't honestly know."

"Fair enough." Martell paused as she regarded him. "I'll go ask her to her face..." she answered. "Do you have any questions for me sir?" she inquired.

"Nope. Other than you'll start tomorrow. I would normally start you toward the end of the crew leave. But I want to ensure there are no issues in sickbay." He commented. "I apologize Doctor."

Martell nodded her head. "I understand sir. I won't let you down," she answered.

"Well, then, before I let you get to work," Grayson said. "Do you have any questions for me?"

"No sir," Martell answered quietly. "I'll go make sure there are no concerns among the crew," she explained her next move in one go.

"I'll let you get to work then," Sheridan said as he rose to his feet, signalling the end of their meeting. "Well then, welcome aboard the Spirit of Winter, Lieutenant." he then smiled at her.

Martell rose to her feet as well, she had a lot to do and not a lot of time left to get it all done. "I will have the physicals done soonest sir," she answered before she nodded to him. She then did a quick about-face before she marched out of the office. A woman on a mission.

Martell departed the office and thanks to the turbolift. She smiled as the doors opened. She was leaving as a young woman entered the turbolift. She had dark skin and blonde hair. She also had a stroller with two children contained within and what looked to be a five or a six-year-old child who followed what was obviously his mother.

Martell smiled at the young mother. "Leaving us?" she asked softly.

"Yeah. I'm one of the senior staff members who was leaving. I assume you're replacing Fleur?" the human-looking woman asked.

Martell nodded. "I am. I'm sorry about the drama."

"So am I." The woman commented before she offered her hand to the Orion. "I'm Savannah Yamaguchi. Welcome aboard Doctor."

"I'm Loreza Martell. It's good to meet you in passing. Take care out there." the Orion commented. Yamaguchi nodded in response when the doors opened. "Come on Gideon. Let's go find your father." with that, the younger woman and her children departed without a fuss. Martell moved on as the lift took her to her final destination.
