Solusar regarded the younger female who was sitting behind her desk before her. "How could it be worse?" she inquired before she could stop herself.
"Well. I could have miscarried. That problem is still there because one never really knows if one might miscarry for whatever reason, medical science is still working on that." Yamaguchi-Solusar answered. "My husband was working on that rather thorny problem, last time I bothered to ask him about his work but then he and I do share a lot of work, I serve as his advisor and assistant when needed and he doubles as my therapist. When I need a little help with my own issues." the large female suddenly smiled. "He might consider physical therapy as an alternate career if science does not work out for him."
"You didn't answer my question," Solusar commented
"I did, you just don't like the answer," Yamaguchi-Solusar added. "So, let me ask you this... If you and Kam could stand to be in the same room for more then ten seconds without wanting to murder the other, what would you say to him?" the large female inquired, regarding her mother-in-law. "Because whether or not I wish to consider it, you are my mother-in-law." she paused. "Kam gets on far better with my mother, than he ever did with you. All of which tells me a great deal..."
"He even took your name," Soluisar answered. "Does he hate me that much?"
"He took my name as a statement that no matter what, my kin had his back through thick and thin. We went through some really insane shit when we were assigned together to the Roanoke. Including me impregnating someone against their will to save two children from would have been almost certain death, to my carrying my mothers baby and a case of friendly fire that should have me cost me the ability to walk. Among various other issues and problems and disasters." Yamaguichi-Solusar paused. "I wouldn't say he hates you, it's more he prefers to not acknowledge your existence."
"Has he said as much?" Solusar answered.
"No, but then he does not need to. He lays eyes on you and he instantly gets angry..." Yamaguchi-Solusar paused. "I personally think you have left this issue way-way too long, but that's me," she commented. "I'm gonna be blunt with you, considering I see both sides of the problem and I am also involved with the problem." she sighed softly before the large female began. "You have been very unfair. Blaming one son for the death of another, you never once considered that what happened to James was an accident, did you.?" Yamaguchi-Solusar paused while she regarded the other woman. "I have the ability to use telepathy to a level that even my mother doesn't match, I was able to share the memory with Kam and see exactly what happened to James from his perspective."
"Oh, so you know what happened... That's more then what I got.. which was nothing. I wasn't even home and neither was Ranik." Solusar answered. "All I got was a 'Hey mom, James drowned in the pool at his birthday party.'". she sighed softly. "I wonder where I went wrong."
"You are still being unfair." Yamaguchi-Solusar regarded the other woman. "To yourself, I mean. What happened to James was a mistake, a tragic event. It doesn't need to continue to be the stain of ruin on your family."
"How... Kam won't give me the time of day." Solusar answered with finality.
"Leave Kam to me," Yamaguchi-Solusar answered evenly. "Ranik can help you here as he already made the attempt and while he and Kam are still working on their issues, at least the two are talking." she paused. "Usually I give them space to sort out their issues, even if Ranik wants me present. I think I caused enough trouble there." Yamaguchi-Solusar paused. "Ranik and I got into a screaming match and its colored our relationship ever since, he gives me distance and I give him time." the large female sighed.
"What's your point?" Solusar inquired.
"I thought that was obvious." Yamaguchi-Solusar raised an eyebrow, in much the same manner as the average Vulcan. "At least I thought it was." she paused. "Captain, come now. You saw it before I did... I am trying to bond with you and you are making it hard for me to do so. You are my mother-in-law and I'll be frank. I don't like having to share the same space as you as I don't know what you are going to do." she commented evenly.
"You think I'm gonna do something stupid... Like, kidnap my grandson." Solusar answered.
"Is Robert, really your grandson?" Yamaguchi-Solusar regarded the other woman with a steely resolve. "You seem to think he is, yet Kameron says otherwise and I'm not sure if I wish to intervene here," Yamaguchi-Solusar explained evenly.
"Robert is and always will be my grandson," Solusar answered with an air of finality. "Same as Kameron is my son."
"In DNA terms, yes... However, you have given me very little to work with on the matter and while you have the rank to coerce and demand mine and my husband's attention on this or any other matter that concerns you, should we refuse, you could make our lives challenging and difficult but not overly so." at this, Yamaguchi-Solusar slowly smiled.
"I don't think I like your tone. Young lady." Solusar answered, a trifle hotly.
"There is no reason that you should," Yamaguchi-Solusar answered as a smile slowly crossed her lips, the kind that indicated she had already won any battle that was coming her way. "You claim Robert, my child, and my future children as your grandkids," she commented. "Yet, you haven't started to work out your issues with your own child..." Yamaguchi-Solusar waved her right hand in dismissal. "Oh, I know all about what you call him, how Ranik has tried to get you to work things out with Kam in the past and how he has failed with you." Yamaguchi-Solusar regarded the other woman before her. "Oh I have my own issues with Ranik but I can respect the fact that he has made and still makes an effort to be civil to my husband and to me."
"Where do I even start?" Solusar sighed, backing down, clearly confronting the other woman before she was a waste of time, even despite her inferior rank, she was right in that she was in the right and even taking a civic case out with JAG would do her no good either. What's worse is that Solusar was sure that Yamaguchi-Solusar knew all of this.
Yamaguchi paused, finally she was getting something. "Well, that's easy, go talk things out with your husband, I will do the same with Kam and we can work something out between the five of us," Yamaguchi-Solusar explained while she stretched up with her arms, the sounds of cartilage breaking and the popping of joints could be heard. "But you have to accept the fact that you were wrong, same as Kam, same as Ranik and myself." she paused. "Could I have handled that first meeting better. Dammed right I could... But he was conducting illegal actions, all in the same of tearing Kam a new one over what he had done with me. Namely, my mother named him as kin to her, and him dropping his own last name in favor of mine."
"Wait. What?" Solusar answered. "Your mother did what?" she asked quietly.
"Oh yes. My mother named Kameron as kin to her, he became part of her family at that point. It's a Halanan adoption custom, it's usually quick and usually done to prevent a clan from becoming extinct by having two families merge into one." Yamaguchi-Solusar slowly smiled. "Mom thought it would alleviate his burdens, which it did. Mom has always been good with helping others. Something you could learn from."
"I will go and speak with Ranik and see what happens." Solusar capitulated at that point.
"Okay, that sounds good to me. As it happens, my next client is ready and I'm going to boot you out of here so I can tend to her." Yamaguchi-Solusar smiled as she watched the other woman rise to her feet and depart, she was expecting nothing and thus, she knew she would never be disappointed.
