Mission:
Mission 108: Grains of Sand
Location: Various Locations - USS Infinity
Timeline: 0800Hrs - October 26th, 2393
Lt Colonel Jose Monroy read the information that was displayed on the PADD which he held in his left hand. It reminded him that he was to report aboard the USS Infinity no later than ten hundred hours today so he decided to simply skip the repartee and report now so he had extra time to handle any issues and concerns which may have been leftover from Colonel McTaggert's tie in command of this unit of marines presently stationed aboard the Infinity.
Monroy stepped over to the security checkpoint. "Gentlemen. Permission to go aboard?" he addressed the two security officers who were working the checkpoint.
"Could I see your orders please sir?" the younger of the two men answered with a gentle nod of his head.
Monroy presented his PADD without argument or comment. The Ensign accepted the PADD before he nodded. "Ahh, welcome Colonel. We had been told to expect you." as the other man who was older smiled. "Let me give you the once over sir."
Monroy paused as this was an unexpected development. "Why were you expecting me?. I've not done anything wrong yet... Not that I know of, anyway." he then smiled. "Why... Something I should know?"
"We weren't informed as to why Colonel. Only that we were to inform the skipper when you arrived. I know she's expecting you." the warrant officer answered as the Ensign handed back the PADD to the Colonel. "You're clean sir..." he commented as the door to the airlock opened and out walked a woman who was in a totally different size. Commander Morae Stormstout looked down at the assembled gathering, a gentle smile on her lips. "Hello. You must be our new marine detachment commander. Welcome."
"I'm Jose Monroy." he introduced himself to the massive female standing before him as he gently offered her his hand as if he was unsure if he'd get it back when she was done. She gently shook his hand. "Morae Stormstout, the Executive officer for the Infinity..." she commented with a nod of her head. "Are you waiting for any other equipment?" she asked
"No. I tend to pack light."
"Nice." Stormstout turned and retreated back through the airlock as Monroy followed the tall woman in silence, he momentarily thought that she had a magnificent ass as she turned to regard him. "Our first stop will be the quartermaster's office so we can get you situated. Then its off to meet the skipper. I believe she wishes to talk to you." the massive female explained as she tapped the nearby turbolift controls, calling a turbolift car. The doors opened and she entered the lift, he followed her in as she regarded him impassible. "Quartermasters office," she said after a moment of silence. Monroy held his silence as the turbolift car sped towards its destination.
A few minutes later, after he had met the quartermaster, gotten his room assignment and then had arrived at his new home. Monroy smiled as he placed his pack onto the sofa. "Alright, let's go meet with the skipper and see to her needs and wants. I've kept her waiting long enough."
Stormstout regarded the human before her. "Are you sure?" she inquired. "I figured you would like some time to settle in first. Shower and change.?"
"No, this uniform is fresh on this morning and I showered before I left the transport," Monroy explained.
"Very well," Stormstout answered with a nod of her head. "Are you wish. This way." and with that, she turned and walked out of his quarters. He was reminded of why he thought the Vrykul woman before him had a magnificent ass. The two of them entered another turbolift and a short time later. both found themselves before the skipper. Monroy was surprised to find a small framed Vulcan female seated behind the skipper's desk in the ready room, he had assumed that it was someone else. "Lt Colonel Jose Monroy, reporting as ordered sir." he addressed her formally.
T'Shaamet regarded him, her dark brown eyes taking in the sight of him. "Welcome aboard Colonel." as she accepted the PADD that he had offered her. "I was not expecting you for another couple of hours... Most of my new rivals are late for various causes and I had assumed you would be another of the same. I apologize." the Vulcan explained.
"Its fine sir," Monroy answered flatly.
"Take a seat Colonel, before I hurt my neck looking up at you." as a gentle smile appeared on the Vulcan woman's face.
"You show emotion, sir." Monroy paused. "I had not expected it." but this time, he did not apologize for his statement.
"I find that having a balance between logic and emotion helps me with my day t day workload, being a full-time mother to two demanding children and a husband with some very serious PTSD issues. I find I need all the help I can get." T'Shaamet explained. "This also brings me to you..." she added
"I don't follow you, sir." Monroy was mystified, the look on his face said as much.
"I expect a certain standard of your marines. They were very well behaved under Colonel McTaggart. He was simply one of the finest marines I've had the privilege of knowing. It was he who recommended you to me."
"I appreciate that," Monroy answered for lack of anything better to say.
"I told him to pick someone who could do the job of leading these men and women as well as he could. He selected you. You were one of three choices and I rejected the other two for various reasons. Mostly due to time and distance. I hope you will not disappoint me, Colonel."
"I will endeavor to not do so," Monroy answered. "I'll go see to the marines issues and deal with them as they arise," he added. "Do I have free reign with my command sir?"
T'Shaamet nodded her head. "You do," she responded.
"Alright. Then you may consider the marines issues handled." Monroy answered. "I will need to call a few meetings and handle matters of state with my people."
"Excellent. Then we understand each other. That's all I wanted Colonel. Do you have anything for me?" the small Vulcan woman answered.
"Not at this time sir, however, I suspect I will have a great many things of you in short order." he admitted.
"Alright. Thank you for coming in, dismissed." Just like that the meeting was over as Monroy rose to his feet and deported in silence.
