Mission: Mission 91: The Sum of All Fears
Location: ACSF Noble - High Orbit over B Kayor.
Timeline: 1200Hrs, August 27th, 2392

Saki Yamaguchi was sitting cross legged on the floor of her new home, she was sitting with her eyes closed as she meditated or rather, she tried to meditate except she had far too much going on in her mind to focus or even to get her breathing right. "Dammit." the nine-year-old sighed softly. "I can't do it." she sighed softly as she felt a set of cat's whiskers brush up against her knee. It tickled her.

Saki smiled down as she watched Perdacus curl up next to her, while Sandstorm was watching her from his perch on the sofa. "I can't do it kitty." the nine-year-old lamented softly. "I just can't focus.." the child explained as the cat meowed softly at her. Sarah was out somewhere else with some of her friends but the cats had both gravitated to Saki as she was something on the wild side of life rather then Sarah who was anything but.

Ennis looked up from the PADD he had been reading. "Are you okay Saki?" he asked her, concern in his tone.

"I can't get my focus to meditate." the nine-year-old explained softly. "It's because of what I was told along with mom and everyone else. I assumed we were all healthy. Then I find out that me, along with everyone else, was all wrong and we're all sick." the small child explained as she gently began to pet Perdacus.

"We're gonna get this dealt with sweetie. It's all just a matter of time and patience. Your mom is one of the first because her issues are more severe than most." Ennis explained with a smile.

"I know but... I don't know what to do." Saki responded as Perdacus got up and climbed into Saki's lap, purring happily as he did so. He was less than a year old but he was already larger than Shonax or Shadow. Saki gently ran her fingers through his fur as the small child let out a sigh. "I don't know kitty. I just... I have to wonder." the small child explained as she went about showing the at some love.

"You think your mom's issues were chance?" Cullen inquired. "I knew of her eye issues and her skin cancer issues too. I was treating them for her," he explained. "But I could not cure the underlying issues. Rachael just has bad genes."

"Why didn't you say something?" Saki inquired.

"Because sweetie, your mom was dealing with enough and she didn't want to be dealing with you being upset too," Cullen responded. "She's already highly stressed and she's losing weight because of it, she needs to eat more and she's pregnant with twins. It's getting to the stupid stage now." Cullen sighed. "Sarah and Daniel don't know about all of this and for now, that's how it's going to stay. But knowing Sarah, she knows already."

"How?" Saki inquired. "I mean I didn't tell her anything." the small child added.

"I know." Cullen knew that Saki was naturally blabby but she had also sat on this one. "But Sarah also knows you're upset as you have your own issues. She knows that, that's why she's been giving you space recently."

"Yeah." Saki sighed softly as the large male cat seated on her lap. Perdacus lifted his head as he meowed loudly at her as if trying to distract her from being unhappy. Saki gently petted the large cat as she let out a sigh. "Sorry kitty but, you can't really help me," Saki explained but she knew it wouldn't stop kitty from trying.

Perdacus simply meowed loudly in response as Saki sighed softly, her fingers gently rubbing behind his ears, he purred happily with the attention he was receiving from Saki.

"It's gonna be okay Saki. We're gonna get through this. Your mom is going to have the best medical care that the Akurians have to offer. Same with you. When was your examination set again?"

"Tomorrow morning. Oh, nine hundred. Anzan wants to give me the once over." Saki paused. "It's bad enough that mom might be dying but that I'm also facing the same beast she is."

Ennis saw the issue for what it was. "You mom is not going to die, sweetie. Cancer is not contagious and you can't catch it," he explained. "Its..." Ennis paused a moment. "More complicated than that."

"Wait. What is cancer anyway?" Saki inquired as she regarded Cullen with a look on her face.

"Well it's where your mom's body doesn't do whats its supposed to do," he explained. "Sometimes things just break, they go wrong for no real reason and the body has too much of one thing or another, in your mom's case, it's on her skin because of the Higher than average ultraviolet light from Yeneer G's star. In short my dear. Your ma spent too much time outside and your grandma's bad genes did the rest. You inherited those issues too." Cullen explained. "Cancer is treatable today however."

Saki sighed as Cullen quickly added. "Saki, don't blame yourself. this isn't your fault, it's nobody's fault. Not your's not your ma's and not your grandma's fault. Sometimes bad things just happen. But we're gonna get this dealt with sweetie. I promise you that."

Saki sighed. "I know.. I can't help it. I have no idea of what to do." the small child protested quietly.

"Then do nothing," Cullen responded. "That's okay Saki." Cullen gently smiled at his adopted daughter. "You are still mine. I might not be blood to you but you are still my daughter. Nothing'll ever change that."

Saki knew all of this but she couldn't fight her own fears, her terrors. Not alone anyway, she rose to her feet as she went over to Cullen. She was terrified of losing her mother and it was showing.

Cullen gently gathered the young child into his arms as he gently hugged her. "It's gonna be okay sweetie... Maybe not today and not tomorrow but this will pass. We'll beat this, one way or another."

Saki simply nodded as she continued to pet the cat, while she faced an enemy she could not understand and that alone, was terrifying to her.
"I don't know what to do kitty." she said "Sorry dad."
