Commander Tom Lasky smiled as he regarded Kurt Lasky as he finished changing his son. He watched as his son continued to lie on his back and not move, his eyes narrowed as he recalled what Kurt's caretaker had mentioned about Kurt's issues. "I'm gonna get you looked at son," Lasky said.
The computer beeped at him. He tapped his display as he found himself face to face with Plataea, the look on her face said much and it wasn't good. "Tom, good. Get Kurt and get your asses over to the Noble as in right this fucking second. you need... you need to get checked. It's ugly and ... I need you and I need Kurt.. as in right now."
"Okay." Lasky didn't understand the level of urgency he heard in Plataea's voice but he wasn't going to argue with her. "I'm on my way."
"Sounds good, I'll be waiting for you, Tom." Plataea then hung up on him.
Lasky gently picked up Kurt before he dressed his son. "Come on. Let's go see why we are both wanted for this." ten minutes later, Lasky was out the door and thirty minutes after that, he was walking into Noble's medical wing. He found Commander Plataea Yamaguchi. She came over and gently took Kurt off of him. "Good, you made it. Let's get this done." and paused as Anzan approached.
"Doctor. Whats going on?" Lasky inquired in a soft tone of voice.
Anzan took a look at Kurt Lasky, then explained, " Well, doctor-patient confidentiality prevents me from telling you everything, but, there is a high chance your son has inherited some very serious genetic conditions from Torilla Yamaguchi."
Lasky nodded his head as he sat down on the bed, he turned a shade of green as Plataea snatched up a wastebasket, she got it into Lasky's face before he threw up. "Oh god.." he paused as he threw up.
Plataea gently rubbed his back and shoulders. "Hey, it's okay... I know you love her."
"I do," Lasky admitted softly. "She gave me a son."
"She did," Plataea responded with a gentle smile. "But Kurt needs to get looked at for Torilla's issues," she added, she was now looking after over a dozen people, from adults to toddlers.
"Are you facing this?" Lasky inquired in a soft tone before he coughed once, spitting out the last of the puke in his mouth.
"No. I am helping Torilla." she paused as she looked at him sadly. "I'm now the last hope for an entire species." her voice cracked as she said it.
Anzan took a preliminary look at Kurt, just a cursory, visual inspection, though in his case, being a kurokuri, his nose and ear's helped out as well. Just from his initial inspection, he suspected Kurt had some issues so he mentioned. "Alright, I need to do a full examination of him."
"Sure.." Lasky coughed softly. "Go ahead," he added as he sat on the bed, looking out into space. Plataea noticed. "It'll be alright Tom. Let me handle this." she turned to Anzan. "Do you want me to come with you, to look Kurt over?"
Anzan pointed at a nearby scanning device. "No need, the scanner is right there." The kurokuri then gently picked up the infant and brought him over to the scanner. He ran the device through, doing a full scan, then once he finished with that, he drew some blood, then handed Kurt back to Plataea. "Alright, stick around for a couple of hours, give the lab guy's time to work on this, then I'll have an answer for you on any conditions he may have."
Plataea nodded. "Alright. Tom and I are going to have some fun while we're here on the Noble, you want us back in two hours then?" she inquired.
Anzan nodded, "Yeah, I should have the results by then."
"Sounds good." Plataea grinned at him. "Do you have my test results?" she inquired.
Lasky blinked as he seemed to snap out of his funk. "Test results?"
"Yes," Plataea answered but she didn't add anything further.
"DNA for the father is not in our records," Anzan answered, "Federation doctors can do the parental test for you."
Lasky paused. "What?" as Plataea smiled. "Thanks, Anzan. You have been most helpful. I will name one of my sons after you." as she gently received Kurt. "We'll come back in a few hours and let you process your work in peace." she turned. "Come on Tom. I need to drop by a medical sickbay owned by the Federation so I can get some medical work done," she commented. "Then we can discuss our arrangements and tend to Kurt." with that she gently held onto Kurt as she gently took Lasky's hand with her own.
Lasky followed her out the door, stuck inside his own black rock with no name as his own recriminations. The three of them ended up in the sickbay of the USS Hunu. A Century class heavy cruiser.
"Hey. Could you do a prenatal exam on me?" Plataea Yamaguchi asked. "I need to know who the father is. So I can surprise him later."
"Sure. Come on over here Commander." the doctor commented.
Plataea followed the medical officer so he could operate. "Who should I check it against?" he inquired.
"Sergent Major Jeffery Duval and Commander Tom Lasky," Plataea answered quietly.
"Sounds good." the medical officer responded. "I'll have it for you in a moment." as he moved off to tend to her request.
The medic ran the check and came back. "Okay Commander," he said to Plataea who had not moved. "The father of your child. It's Commander Lasky," he responded. "Was that what you wanted?"
"Oh yes. Wonderfull news. Thank you." Plataea hopped off on the bed, she went back to Lasky. "Come on. Let's get out of here and I got some news which I can share over dinner."
Lasky rose to his feet and followed her out the door.
