Lieutenant Jiao Anderson was sleeping, when she bolted upright grasping her side. There was a sharp pain shooting through her abdomen. It passed, she layed back down and steadied her breathing. Lieutenant Garry Smithson who was sleeping next to her, snapped awake and he looked at her, he didn't move but he knew something was up "Jiao?" he whispered.

Anderson smiled weakly "Yeah, I"m fine..." she moved closer to him, rubbing her abdomen. He nodded "you sure?" he asked. Smithson wasn't doubting her but he was concerned and she knew this. She took his hand "I'm fine...just a pain...thats all. I'll be fine" she answered sleepily.

Smithson regarded her before he nodded "Alright hon..." he replied evenly as he gently drew her close. Anderson tossed and turned the rest of the night and woke up the next morning looking like she had risen from her grave. She showered and dressed ignoring the stabbing pain in her belly. She sat down at the table and pushed the cup of tea that Smithson had made her away, she wasn't thirsty

Jiao heard the door chime beep "Enter." With that, Captain Javier Morales stepped into her quarters. "Hey, Jiao... I wanted to see how you were... it's getting close to your due date..." the older human male smiled.

Anderson nodded as Smithson appeared from the bedroom. "Oh.. hey Captain." he greeted Morales as he zipped up his uniform jacket.

"So you two seem to have sorted out your issues then?" Morales inquired with a gentle smile.

"Well Jiao's girls are not sure of what to make of me considering I'm only a few years older than they are.." Smithson explained. "It's been hard on them.."

Anderson sighed as she felt a wave of pain rush over her. "Ohgodohgodohgod." the heavily pregnant whimpered softly.

Morales was on his feet instantly. "Let's get you to sickbay." before he gently picked up the pregnant woman in her arms, while Smithson called for an emergency beam out for the three of them.

Lieutenant Calliope Pravdin smiled while she activated the biobed before her. The tall woman quickly tapped her combadge affixed to her chest. "Transporter Room Three. Beam Lieutenant Anderson and her party to biobed one please." Captain Morales and Lieutenants Smithson and Anderson appeared at their assigned destination. While Pravdin tapped her combadge "Pravdin to Haig. Medical emergency. You are needed in sickbay"

Commander Rachael Haig raced to sickbay and was surprised when she saw Jiao Anderson laying on the bio-bed breathing heavily, doubled over in pain.

"What happened?" she asked before she drew her tricorder out of her kit. "I don't know, I had a pain last night, but I didn't think anything of it. But it's worse now than it was last night" Anderson explained softly.

Haig paused as the tricorder passed over her abdomen. She saw the look of anxiety pass over his face. Anderson gritted her teeth "Doctor...what is it?"

"It...you're in labor" Haig answered bluntly as she put away her tricorder. Anderson meanwhile paled "No...it's too soon!. I can't have
this baby!" Haig shrugged "Yeah. well, you're having it. Ready or not"

"But it's not time...I.." Haig then set her medkit down on the bed next to the tricorder. "El Tee...you will be fine. This baby is healthy and strong and has a big chance of surviving"

Jiao Anderson nodded "Alright..." she collapsed back onto the bed.

Pravdin looked at the doctor.

"Let's get her set up" Haig responded softly.

Half an hour later, Jiao Anderson was hooked up to all kinds of monitors for the baby and she was resting. Doctor Haig came over "We're close now. Should we call the father?"

Smithson regarded her. "He is already here." he rumbled softly.

"Oh," Haig answered softly. "I'm sorry.."

An hour later Anderson was sweating, swearing, grunting and yelling. "I need you to bear down Jiao" She flopped back, exhausted. "Jiao!" she glared at the female doctor. "What the hell do you think I'm doing?" she growled softly.

Haig smirked "Ok...good. I can see the head!" She smiled but it was short lived. One last push and Haig was holding the baby in her hands. Jiao fell back relieved.

"Is he ok?" Anderson asked anxiously. Haig simply smiled as she placed the infant in the arms of the new mother. "He's just fine" she looked down at her son and couldn't help but cry.

Meanwhile, Pravdin gently wiped Anderson's face and head with a damp cloth "Easy El Tee..." she whispered. "he's adorable" she added with a smile

Anderson looked up at her appreciatively, if not a bit exhausted. She wiped away her tears and kissed her son's head. Haig stood next to her "Jiao, I have to
take him. But I will bring him back soon. I promise" she nodded "Alright" as she handed her son over to the Doctor.

Smithson smiled. "Hey... you feeling okay?"

"I feel like I was viola....abused.." Anderson stopped herself mid-sentence. "I'm not sure of what to call him..." she admitted softly.

"Name him for your father..." Smithson responded.

"I'd rather name him for you." Anderson regarded him with her dark eyes.

"You can do both." Smithson wasn't going to argue with her but neither did he feel the honor was his alone. "This... isn't a great place for an argument."

"No..." Anderson whimpered softly before she closed her eyes and with that, she was out like a light.

Haig came back a moment later. "Hey...Oh.." she paused before she gently slid the baby into the waiting arms of its father. "Do you guys have a name for him?"

"We came up with something." Smithson paused. "Nathan Garry Anderson."

"I'll make sure the paperwork is filled out," Haig responded. "I'll have two of my nurses looking after her at all times but we should move her to a recovery room... so she can sleep and change in peace."

"Sounds good Doctor. I'll get out of your guy's way while you look after things."

"Thank you, Lieutenant," Haig responded with a cheerful smile before she called in her two aides and went to work.
