Mission:
Mission 87: Torilla Returns
Location: Various Locations - Battlecruiser Ryazar's Shield
Timeline: May 22nd 2392
Ryuukei walked into his ships sickbay looking for Anzan. He found the fox-like kurokuri rather quickly, who looked very ragged, unkempt and tired. "So Anzan, how are the latest round of casualties?."
"Well, I just finished with treating all of the crew of the Courageous. Of their sixty dead I was able to revive thirty-two of them and transfer them to artificial bodies. However, because we have no human Artificial bodies they all had to be transferred to Akurian ones."
Ryuukei nodded. "Yeah, good thing Akurian ones are designed to be cross-compatible, the whole fleet has run out of human bodies. Where are they now."
Anzan pointed to the recovery rooms. "They are still in the recovery rooms, some of them should be starting to wake up now."
Ryuukei noticed Teval entering the medical bay with two of his children following him, he had bandages over his midsection and walked with a noticeable limp. Ryuukei commented on the matter. "Teval what are you doing wandering around."
"I got tired of laying in bed," Teval answered. He then turned his attention to Anzan. "How is my crew."
"there were thirty-nine I couldn't save," Anzan answered, but the rest are all alive.
Teval nodded. "Well, that better chances than they would have had normally, by Federation standards my ships would have had over a hundred dead."
"Do be aware though," Anzan mentioned, "All of the ones that had to get transferred to artificial bodies are in Akurian ones, not human ones. The fleet ran out of human bodies over a week ago."
Teval nodded while Ryuukei asked. "So you got to spend time with your kids again huh."
Teval put a hand on Nuyari, rubbing the young Kurokuri's ear, "Yeah they make great cuddle buddies." Nuyari purred in response.
Ryuukei then pointed at the recovery rooms. "Well, some of your crew, as well as the crew of the Courageous are in there."
Teval nodded and limped in that direction, with Ryuukei following. Once they were in the recovery room, both Kurokuri could hear that some people were starting to stir.
Teval first walked over to Rykar, who still looked exactly like herself, indicating she did not need to be placed in an artificial body. "Hey, Rykar."
Rykar turned her head toward Teval, "Teval, at least you can still walk around. My lower body won't stop tingling."
"It will be a few more days before that passes," Anzan answered. Having to put your body back in one piece can do that."
Rykar nodded but didn't say anything. The person on the next bed stirred, catching the attention of all three Kurokuri and Rykar.
Torilla blinked her eyes as she opened them. "Uhhh.." she let out a soft moan as she looked around. "You... you all look different." before she stopped, she realized that she sounded odd, even to herself before she looked down and with horror, she realized that she was different. "Umm... What happened to me?" she asked quietly. "Someone talk to me." the female looked down. "I'm... in an Akurian body!"
Ryuukei was the one who answered, not fully sure whom he was talking to. "Well, your body was pretty thoroughly destroyed when your ship was wrecked. We had to save you by transferring your brain into an artificial body. However, due to a number of casualties, we have had to treat over the past couple of weeks we ran out of human artificial bodies and had to resort to using Akurian ones."
Yamaguchi blinked. "Mmm... Oh." she paused as she looked down. "I'm a lot smaller than I used to be.." she paused. "Okay.." she paused. "I'm not hearing anyone's thought processes either." she regarded Ryuukei.
Ryuukei gave her a puzzled look. "Why would you be hearing someone's thought processes."
"Because I am, well I used to be a telepath." the small being paused. "I'm Torilla Yamaguchi or rather I'm... the furry version of her." she paused. "But you know what this means now?" she inquired. "I will probably get picked up and petted." she then sighed in an irritated tone.
Ryuukei shrugged, "Well it couldn't be helped. We ran out of human bodies when de-assimilating all those Borg."
"Hey at least you are alive," Teval added.
Torilla regarded Teval. "Yes.." she slowly blinked her eyes. "I remember my death though.." as she sighed softly. "How long was I dead?"
"You were out for five days," Anzan answered. "Don worry we can clone you a new biological body, eventually. But there is a huge backlog on the matter, and until we regain contact with the main OISU Fleet, it may be years before this option becomes available."
Yamaguchi looked down at her new hands and the claws on them, she was used to seeing digit grade hands and feet, now she needed to figure out ways to deal with her claws. "Oh... Okay," she said in a quiet tone. "I mean, it could be worse... right?"
Teval nodded, pointing to one of the numerous robots in the room, "Yeah you could be in a robot body."
Yamaguchi paused. "Yeah," she commented quietly. "I have no idea how I feel about this... I was never expecting to wake up again.," she added.
Neither Ryuukei nor Teval knew exactly what to say on the matter but the two kurokuri were interrupted by someone else coming too.
Kiya Yuvia woke up, not even fully aware of her surroundings and groggy as hell. She didn't even realize at first that she was in an Akurian artificial body. Sitting up she looked around seeing that she was in an unfamiliar medical facility. She noticed Teval nearby, with other Akurians she didn't recognize.
"Captain, where am I."
Teval looked over at Kiya. "You're on the Akurian Battlecruiser Ryazar's shield. Your injuries were far too great for Federation medical technology."
Teval seemed to speak far louder than Kiya was used to. Instinctively she touched her ear with her hand replying. "Why are you speaking so loud.?"
Suddenly, she realized her ear wasn't where it should be. She also noticed that the room had a very distinctive smell. Then she finally noticed, looking at her own hand. it was covered in a grayish-white fur with black spots.
Teval then explained. "Yeah, you were so badly injured, the only way to save you was to transplant your brain into an Akurian artificial body."
Kiya blinked in confusion, not even really realizing what Teval meant by that.
Yamaguchi turned her head. "In short, you were downloaded into a new body," she commented. "your original body was too damaged to keep you alive. So you were moved into this body, much like myself." she explained.
Kiya looked down at herself then asked, "Artificial body, so what is this some biological body or something else."
Teval shook his head. "No, it's an android body. The only biological component of you left currently, is your brain.
"So I'm a cyborg then," Kiya asked.
Teval nodded then Kiya replied. "Wow, that's really cool, I didn't know such wonderful technology existed, I must find out how this works."
Yamaguchi watched in amusement. "Well. It could have been worse right?" she inquired. "At least someone seems to like their new situation." she gestured to Kiya with her hand as she let out a soft sigh. "When can I get out of here?"
"Any time you like," Anzan answered, "You are free to go." He then handed Torilla a datapad, "This is the information you need to know about artificial bodies and how to maintain them."
Torilla accepted the PADD with her hand, the claws making an odd scratching sound on the material of what the PADD was made from. "Thanks." before she slowly climbed off of the bed and landed on the floor with a thud.
Yamaguchi paused as she clearly wasn't used to moving around. "This.. is going to be a little odd.." she then started walking, only to crash into a wall. "Now.. I didn't feel a thing," Yamaguchi commented a moment later, still holding onto the PADD in her hand. "I wonder what this body can do." and with that, she departed in silence, after walking into a door.
"Who else is in here," Teval asked Anzan.
"All the people in this room are from your battle group," Anzan answered, "But I don't know all their names.
Another being lying nearby began to stir before a male Taver Leokuri sat up, he slowly growled ever so softly. "Where am I!?" the being asked in an almost demanding tone. "Where are the Klingons!"
A second person sat up. "Uhh... What the hell happened... Wait.. What did you do to me!"
"Relax," Teval answered. "You guys are on an Akurian ship, you are safe now. your original bodies have suffered immense damage, and as a result, your brains have been transferred to artificial bodies."
The male Taver Leokuri seemed to settle down. "Captain Vakar.." the being rumbled. I am or I was Lt Colonel John Burgoyne."
The smaller female added. "I am Commander Sohnaxx Dvald." she introduced herself. "Would someone mind explaining what happened and why I look and sound so strange..?"
"Well you two are still who you are," Anzan tried to explain "It's just, your bodies were so heavily injured, we had no choice but to either put you in stasis or transfer your brains to artificial bodies. Unfortunately, our available cloning facilities are very limited, it could take a year or more before we can clone you a new biological body."
"Lovely." The female responded in a rather dry tone. "My children and grandchildren would never recognize me and they wouldn't believe it was me."
The male seemed to process the details in silence. "Lovely," he muttered a moment later.
"Hey look on the bright side," Teval remarked, "At least you are alive."
The female held her silence where the male regarded the small being who spoke. "Well. Look at this from my perspective. Less than five minutes ago. I died to kill a Klingon walker. I was not expecting to come back and I knew I was going to die but I saved the lives of over a hundred others with my actions... I was not expecting to live and yet... Here I sit.. Am I alive?" he shrugged. "I have no idea."
"I am not convinced that this isn't the afterlife." the small female added a moment later. "But if this is heaven. I feel cheated... I want my money back."
The male Leokuri simply chuckled at that statement.
