| Personal History | John Burgoyne was born in 2359 on the colony world of Ivory Coast or as it was more properly called in the french language. Côte d'Ivoire. This was a lust paradise of a world, similer in climate and feeling to equatorial Africa. Most of this planet was extremely warm and lush with tropical jungles on each continent from the arctic to this worlds version of Antarctica. John, his siblings and his friends spent their various childhoods exploring the jungles and perils of this world, of which there were many in equal measure. While growing up, he was the only one of his circle of friends to develop an interest in going off world and since he was sick and tired of hearing about the Federation's wars, he decided to join the Marines and do something about it. His family told him that he would only come to a bad end over the matter but in the end they decided to reluctantly support him as he went to Earth, a world he found far colder then he was used to for his training. The next four years from the end of the Dominion War until just after the Shinzon Incident saw a wide variety of changes in the young Marine's life. He learned a great deal and also showcased his skills on more then one occasion. One training mission saw him deliberately stay behind so everyone else would get back to camp, he did this every night for a week straight and yet he would make his way back every night in record time no less. His first assignment in Starfleet was the USS Kigali. An Akira class starship named for the famous battle that had been fought over the city during Earth's third world war in which the Eastern coalition was attempting to take the city for their own from the African Union troops defending the city. The battle went poorly for the African union troops stationed in the surrounding area as the Eastern Coalition after having been repelled several times simply used a nuke on the city, obliterating it and killing over three million people. Burgoyne quickly developed skills and abilities that the personnel in special operations wanted so he was offered the chance to go to ranger school and become Force Recon qualified. Burgoyne's next assignment was to the Ambassador Class USS Lancaster, it was here he met his wife and their relationship started slowly as she was generally not a big fan of Marines, and it wasn't until he was able to face down three large Sehlets using his brains and wits rather then brute force that Calliope Pravdin realized that she was interested in him. His assignment to the Lancaster was one he greatly relished as various personnel were rotated through the Marine unit aboard, the Lancaster herself spent a lot of time on patrols, serving as a teaching and training tool for officers and enlisted alike before she would be decommissioned at the end of this tour. When the chance for his own command came up, he refused it the first time, citing lack of experience, this was something that garnered him a fair amount of respect from his peers as most would have jumped at the chance, ready or not. His second choice came a year later when he was offered command of the Marine detachment aboard the newly refitted Galaxy class carrier variant, designated as the Envoy class USS Courageous. His wife remained behind aboard the USS Lancaster for a month before she followed him over, their reunion was a happy one as he found out he was going to be a father. Less than a month on his new assignment, commanding her marines and he liked it already, however it was not to last as in early 2392, he was promoted to command the special forces unit assigned to the Roanoke Squadron and he was promoted from Major to Lt Colonel. After the destruction of the USS Courageous, he was reassigned to the USS Tigers Claw as their marine CO, his wife went with him as one of their medical officers. The two remained here until early 2393 when both were reassigned, Calliope went to the Starbase as one of their medical officers and he was promoted to a planet based posting on Utgarde IV, near his wife so they could be together with the children that both had wanted for so long. |
