Noncommissioned - Part One

Posted on Wed Mar 11th, 2020 @ 3:27am by Master Sergeant Braelynn "Shadow" Di'Tomasso

Mission: Mission 84: The Ghastly Echoes of Vietnam
Location: Ruins of Halan'goren - Midtown
Timeline: 1300Hrs - May 4th, 2392

Master Sergent Braelynn Di'Tomaaso was seated in a small pile of rubble, she had several Gorn snipers with her, the two females were downright deadly. "Just remember you need to take into consideration the wind here and down at the target... The round needs time to travel..." the Orion female was explaining.

The Gorn female nodded in response. "Okay," she answered before she glanced around at the ruins of Halan'goren, her once mighty capital city which was now being fought for, block by block by a Klingon invasion army and the Federation marines along with the Gorn military.

Some of the Federation personnel were nicknaming this battle 'the Gorn's Stalingrad' or 'The Battle of New Stalingrad.' But Di'Tomasso didn't much care for it, but that said, she didn't care for many things anymore these days, she wanted to make the Klingons bleed and die as she lifted the massive rifle in her arms like it weighed nothing at all. "This weapon is special... It's not a common issue.."

The Gorn peered at her as she hissed ever so softly, most would have been intimidated but Di'Tomasso knew that the female before her was simply breathing. "This used to be an anti-tank weapon but more anti-infantry now..." she explained as she handed the weapon to the Gorn, the female before she stumbled as she almost dropped the rifle but Di'Tomasso simply grabbed it out of the air with one hand. "It's forty pounds and sixty inches long. You wanna wield this thing in battle?" Di'Tomasso inquired. "Show me you're worth it!"

"But it's so heavy.." the small female protested.

"Yes... But the ordinance from it is guaranteed to smash through Klingon heads, skulls and whatever passes for brains inside." The Orion female responded with a smile. The door to the penthouse suite the group were in opened and in walked Sergent Merris Kellog, she wore a somber look on her face as she tended to wear little else these days for the same reason that Di'Tomasso herself was in a state of outright annoyed. "Hey, Braelynn. I got supplies." Kellog commented. "New toys for you and our guys here."

"Good." the tall Orion female responded quietly. "Bring them over here."

"Okay." Kellog turned and went back outside again before she came back in again with an anti-gravity sled loaded down with long boxes. "Guys... I think your new rifles are here." Di'Tomasso commented lightly.

Moments went by as a dozen or so Gorn converged on the antigrav sled as they assisted with stripping the sled of its gear. "These are exquisite." rumbled a small Gorn male. "Yesss.." as he brandished his new weapon. Di'Tomasso handed him a magazine of rounds. "Just because you have a new weapon does not mean you can get cocky. Big man." the Orion female addressed the male in question.

The Gorn nodded his head in acquiescence. "Yes.." he answered quietly. "I am now ready for my watch... Might I go and stand it?"

"By all means." Di'Tomasso responded. "This weapon is a little heavier than you are used to so the recoil might come as a surprise.." she paused. "But other than that, just remember what you were told and you'll be fine." what the handsome Orion female left unsaid was that they only needed to fire one round at a time and make certain they hit what they shot at but she had been yelling that at these guys for the last week or so. "Two man teams... Don't let these bastards scare you."

Suddenly there was a loud screaming sound which quickly picked up in volume before there was a loud explosion nearby. "Incoming somebody nearby screamed at the top of their lungs. "Get to your posts!" Di'Tomasso screamed as she dashed outside to find that a Klingon scout ship had been shot down inside the city.

Di'Tomasso quickly found herself some cover as she smiled, she took aim with her rifle. "Stand and fight," she commented to her fellow snipers. "If you run.. you'll only die tired!" she added as she peered through her scope before she began picking off Klingons as they appeared.

Di'Tomasso whispered softly to herself as she pulled the trigger. "Lord, make me fast and accurate. Let my aim be true and my hand faster than those who would seek to destroy me." she continued to whisper to herself as she killed Klingon after Klingon as they charged across a large parkland that used to be prime real estate in the city.

"Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine. Let not my last thought be 'If only had my gun; and Lord, if today is truly the day that you call me home." Di'Tomasso continued to fire as another Klingon fell to the dirt, missing his head. "Let me die in a pile of empty brass." the tall Orion finished as she killed another Klingon before she quickly reloaded, then she took aim and continued shooting.

Kellog meanwhile got in next to Di'Tomasso. "On your left side... I have them," she whispered to the larger Orion as the two began culling the herd heading for the building where the Federation sniper team was located.

Kellog smiled. "Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers." the shorter of the two Orions began to chant ever so softly. "Lo, there do I see the line of my people, back to the beginning." as she was picking off Klingons left and right. "Lo, they do call to me. they bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever."

"For today I am Viking... and today is good enough to die!" Di'Tomasso finished the Viking war prayer as the two women continued shooting.
