Transitions - Part Three

Mission: Mission 98: Building Our New Home
Location: Various Locations - Starbase Vanguard
Timeline: 1000Hrs - July 21st, 2393

Captain Nebris Yamaguchi decided he needed to say a few words to the man who had set him on this path to misery and purgatory, he moved down the hallway towards his destination before he reached his destination a few minutes later. He entered the domain of Admiral Lasky a few minutes later. "Hello. I'd like to see Admiral Lasky. It's of a personal nature and I do not have an appointment."

The yeoman regarded Yamaguchi before he slowly nodded. "Let me have a look at the Admirals schedule." the young man responded as he picked up a PADD before doing just that.

Yamaguchi paused as he settled in to wait, he decided to hold his tongue and be silent. There was no need to provoke a dispute here for no logical or good reason.

The yeoman smiled. "Admiral Lasky is presently meeting with his wife at the present time."

"Good. This will make my life easier, his wife also happens to be my mother." Yamaguchi responded quietly. "I would like to barge in on their meeting."

The yeoman raised an eyebrow. "Is this an official request Captain?"

"Yes. As this is an official matter of a personal nature Chief." Yamaguchi answered. "I realize this is unusual but my present situation demands it," he added in a quiet tone. "It's about family and the sooner I get those dealt with, the better for all involved."

"I see." The yeoman paused before he nodded. "Go on in," he commented.

"Thank you, Chief. I will remember this."

"I hope all goes well then you can thank me later. I accept bottles of booze of any kind." the young man responded with a nod.

Yamaguchi nodded, he then proceeded into Lasky's office where he found the Admiral sitting on the sofa with his pregnant wife seated next to him, the two of them were in the middle of a chat and both were wearing their uniforms. Plataea regarded the man who was once her daughter. "Nebris What..." her voice died as she regarded him. She could see that this was about to get very stupid very quickly.

Lasky regarded Nebris. "What's up Nebris. You look pissed."

"I should have never listened to you a year ago," Yamaguchi said quietly. "Listening to you has caused me nothing but misery and pain." he paused a moment. "I have no idea of what I am supposed to do, yet everyone around me seems to think they can dictate and advise me on matters which they don't know anything about." Yamaguchi paused. "I've decided to transition back to being female. At least I was happier then, still miserable but at least I knew who and what I was," he explained. "Yeah, I might have been a drunken whore but at least I knew what life demanded of me, my life as a man has been a dismal failure."

Lasky nodded, he had been expecting this meeting for the last year and the look on his face said as much. "But you didn't fail Nebris," Lasky responded quietly. "Did you go into this with both eyes open?, yes, you did.. You made an effort and you had to deal with some truly insane shit." Lasky shifted his attention from Nebris to Plataea for a moment before he went back to Nebris. He breathed in then out and then back in again before he started. "You had no idea of what was required to be a male in society, you had to adjust to something that was forced on you without your consent, you had the chance then to go back to being female but you decided to make an effort to be a male... Why? why did you make that decision?" Lasky inquired of the man standing before him.

"I made the choice because I was foolish. I got someone pregnant." Yamaguchi responded in a gentle tone of voice.

"That was not just your fault, that was hers too. Tienn was an imbecile and she keeps getting away with her fuckups. The women of your family keep having to clean up after her." Lasky breathed in loudly. "I think its long past time that I dealt with her myself. I grow tired of seeing her fuck up and get away with it."

"With respect, there is nothing you can do to her to get her to listen," Yamaguchi answered in a rather dismissive tone of voice.

"Are you sure?" Lasky answered in a quiet tone of voice. "You forget that I've known her a heck of a lot longer then you have. I watched what she did to Rachael, to Elizabeth, and to Saki," he explained. "What about your children?"

"Rachael all but demanded I give them to her to look after for the time being," Yamaguchi answered. "I can't even be a father as I have no idea of what being a father even means."

"Really?" Lasky answered. "I disagree with you. You adjusted well to being a male, even with all the crap you had to deal with, the accident involving the twins but you didn't run away, you stayed and tried to make a relationship with a woman who was almost batshit insane for the sake of those children." Lasky paused. "There is no dishonor in falling before a superior foe, if your heart is pure, your actions forthright! What you have learned over the last year, will serve you throughout your battles to come whether you are Nebris or as Lasarra. Either way, you cannot go back to what you were... Was everything you fought for and suffered over the last year, all meaningless?" he asked.

Plataea regarded her son in silence before she took this moment to enter the conversation. "Why couldn't you come to me for help?" she asked gently.

"I thought I could handle it." Nebris breathed in and then out slowly. "Torilla made it plain that she was disappointed in me."

"Torilla has her perspective and I have mine, you are my child, not hers. Her word has no place here Nebris, it never did. I will deal with Torilla myself."

"I have my own choice words for her," Lasky responded.

"No." Plataea almost snapped. "No. Leave this one with me, you deal with Tienn husband and let me handle my sibling. Since she wishes to be unreasonable in an unreasonable situation. I will deal with her myself." the female Lasky answered, in a tone that brooked no argument from either male before her.

Yamaguchi simply nodded, he knew his mother's mind so he resolved not to fight with her on the matter. "I have not told her of recent events.." he admitted. "I didn't see the need."

"Good. Allow me to relieve you of the burden of the matter at hand." Plataea gently rose to her feet before she gently gave her son a hug. "No matter what, I am proud of you, you have faced the last year with determination, with dedication, and with perseverance. You had to deal with a lot of insane shit and I did not show you the attention you needed."

"I thought I could handle it alone," Yamaguchi admitted.

"You should not have had to face this alone," Plataea answered. "Well, that ends now."

Lasky nodded. "Have you started your transition yet?" he asked.

"Yes. I have." Yamaguchi answered.

"Okay then." Lasky nodded his head slowly. "At least gender reassignment is easier these days then it was in times gone by," Lasky answered. "Plus we have the Akurians medical technology to assist us as well. How long before you are back to being female?"

"I expect to be fully finished in about a month's time." he paused. "I'm also going to request another assignment elsewhere afterward. Too much has happened here, Tienn... I need a change of scenery."

"I can understand why you would. For what its worth. I'd be doing the same but there are a lot of ships and bases out there that are in need of good officers If you'd like... I can talk to a few friends of mine and see if they have any openings for you. Also if you came back into the regular fleet, I would be able to make good use of you. I have several ships that are shy someone of your skills. Or, I can talk to a few of my friends and see what they can do for you."

"You'd do that... for me?" Yamaguchi inquired. "Why?"

"Yes, because you have earned not only my respect, but also, my trust... You've shown that you are worthy and you've overcome a lot Nebris." Lasky answered. "You have endured a lot over the last year and you continue to endure because of the stupidity of others. Your relationship with Tienn did not fail because of you, it failed because she was not going to assist you with your rather unique needs." Lasky paused. "It's possible to make no mistakes and still lose Nebris, that's not a weakness, that's life... It's harsh at times and abusive, but sometimes we all get unlucky and other times we strike gold."

"You've given me much to consider," Yamaguchi admitted. "I need to go and see my commanding officer, tell him I need some serious leave time and I needed it yesterday."

"If Fireball gives you a hard time about it, let me know and I'll talk to him about it. I can even loan him a member of my staff who has flight command experience. I have two former pilots, working for me. If worst comes to worst."

"Thank you, sir," Yamaguchi answered.

"Thank you, for coming to see me about this matter," Lasky answered with a smile. "On your way then Captain. I will keep you no longer."

With that, Yamaguchi turned and departed in silence. Lasky turned to her husband. "I feel like such a blind idiot. I did not see that coming."

"Neither did I," Lasky answered his wife in a quiet tone. "But let's see if we can help him with his issues, going forward... Family to you is family to me," he commented as he smiled at her. "If I can help then I help, regardless of the risk of consequences."
