"Thank you." Nalla nodded appreciatively before she departed sickbay.
Five minutes later she was on Torilla's ship, looking lost as she stepped off the transporter pad.
The Chief noticed. "Doctor... you okay?" he inquired of the small Deltan female before him.
"Yeah... I just needed to get my bearings. Where is Captain Yamaguchi presently?" Nala asked.
The Chief tapped the display. "The Skipper is presently in her ready room." he responded. "Should I let her know you are looking for her?"
Nalla shrugged, "If you wish."
Meanwhile Captain Torilla Yamaguchi was seated in her ready room, her two dogs were asleep up on the sofa which nobody ever really used these days as it stank of dog. In truth she didn't mind as it was a reminder to people that this was her work space and they had better fucking get used to it or they could honestly kiss her shapely ass, as far as Torilla was concerned anyway.
At the present time she was handling paperwork, as she placed the last PADD down in the done pile with a soft sigh. "I need a yeoman to handle this for me."
The chime rang shortly after and upon permission, Nalla entered. She had that goofy grin. Of someone that did not normally smile. Torilla had taught her it was OK to do that - safe too.
"You are not busy, are you?" the small woman asked as she walked up to the desk.
Yamaguchi raised an eyebrow as she regarded Nalla with a coy smile. "Just doing paperwork.." Torilla answered. "It is a necessary evil however I have to take care of things..." the larger woman let out a sigh. "Why do you ask?" she inquired of the small woman before her.
Both dogs woke up as they both lifted their heads from where they were. Grey Wind regarded Nalla with his golden orbs while Nymeria shifted her attention from Nalla to Torilla. "Its okay guys.." Torilla commented. "Nalla have you met Grey Wind and Nymeria?" she inquired as the one dog yawned before she lay her head back down.
Grey Wind however remained alert as he watched Nalla, suddenly he yawned, he displayed an impressive set of teeth as he did so.
"I have not," Nalla admitted, then shifted to them a moment to pet them. "I ask because I wanted to visit. To get away from everything for a while."
Torilla knew exactly what that felt like. "Fair enough... Come on in, take a seat. That one is Grey Wind and the one in all black is Nymeria." Yamaguchi introduced her dogs. "They are generally friendly unless you prove to be a threat to me." the larger woman explained.
Nalla sat on the couch stiffly, not sure if the dogs would let her sit on something they saw as theirs. "Roscoe luckily only uses a dog bed... Mom thinks I should pet him more often, since that's what he is there for."
Nymeria shifted to allow Nalla access to the seat where as Grey Wind simply lifted his head, as he felt the small female pet him behind his ears.
Torilla regarded both dogs. "Come on guys... come lay down in your beds."
Grey Wind got up before he retreated under Torilla's desk, joined a moment later by Nymeria, the Halanan fed them a treat each. "good boy, good girl... now lay down." she said gently. Both dogs curled up right away except they both were watching Nalla very carefully. "Nothing wrong with showing affection for your dog... You could take him on duty with you. Anyone who questions you, tell them to fuck off.. Sickbay is your workspace and you should be comfortable.. Like these two ... They go everywhere with me."
"Roscoe does too, I just never really pet him all that much," Nalla admitted. "I do not think Mom realizes my experiences with pets are limited."
Yamaguchi nodded, she knew something of how the other woman felt. "Well these two were abused and neglected. Jeff Duval rescued them from Nechayev along with a hundred or so other pets and I inherited them as they were something of a 'consolation prize' was how he worded it to me." the tall woman explained.
"Roscoe is a trained therapy dog... Rarely makes sounds and is always there to be pet, when he is in the room," Nalla noted. "I used to pet him often but I found no benefits of it. Mom kept saying it was because I had to learn to bond with pets and would bond with Roscoe in time. Time, however, is something I have little of with my research and new patient load."
Yamaguchi smiled as she regarded the smaller female before her. "Take Roscoe on duty with you. It'll help your patients to see him and he will enjoy the attention, providing someone doesn't do something stupid." the larger woman responded. "Of course, you have Galiaan Fordring around... I doubt anyone wants to tangle with her."
"She is very protective of me... I am not used to it," Nalla admitted. "She also has gotten me to take a more visual role with my department. And I admit that I am getting more comfortable with sharing my personal feelings."
"Galiaan Fordring is something else." Yamaguchi responded. "She is protective of all of her people... and Lets face it.. to her, you are about the size of a child to her." Yamaguchi smiled. "I'm happy that you two are getting along."
"Mom says that in order to get full Commander, I must work on socializing. Rosters and goals I can set easily enough, but I lack conversational skills beyond work and small-talk," Nalla admitted to Torilla.
"Do not trouble yourself with learning those skills, you will gain those with time." Yamaguchi explained. "You have to decide however.. that you want to acquire those skills... But you have to be comfortable with it.."
"In order to hold a medical command, it is a requirement." Nalla made that that sound as if it were a mandate.
"You are trying too hard on the matter." Yamaguchi responded, a smile on her lips. "How's the little one?"
"No damage was done to the fetus," Nalla spoke, a mix of relief and stress. "...I feel things more strongly sometimes."
"Such effects are to be expected. You are with child after all." Yamaguchi responded. "The effects will be different from time to time, also things will change without much warning." the larger woman explained, clearly knowing what she was talking about. "When are you due?"
"In three months," Nalla spoke, she seemed very nervous on that thought.
"You'll be fine." Yamaguchi insisted. "I've been through this several times, so has Elizabeth and Rachael too." she explained. "Jake also indicated he wanted the child in his life... But you are going to need to contend with his request on the matter as the little one is his child too."
"He will have that," Nalla assured, "and I will ask you only once to leave the matter with him and I."
Yamaguchi chuckled softly. "Nalla.. Come now. You know Jake isn't going to keep me out of this..." she responded. "Yes you are the mother of this child and Jake is the father but he is also my mate.... This means I'm stuck being involved... Besides... Look on the bright side of things.. I have and am raising five children, three of those are adults and two of those adults have children of their own... You really don't want my experience in your court?"
"I do not want you fighting for his right to be this child's parent, when the matter has already been discussed," Nalla spoke shortly. "You are his mate, but you do not have any DNA with my child."
Torilla raised an eyebrow. "I have no intentions of fighting with anyone over anything.." she explained. "But unfortunately for us both Nalla.. I am involved either way."
"Not once have I denied his request to be the child's father," Nalla reminded her friend. "So I find your intrusion into this matter offensive. Implications of I not wanting his involvement, that is. So I will tell you once more, as a friend, to stay out of my business with him."
Torilla sat back in her chair, adding a little distance to the matter before them. Grey Wind could tell something was off as he regarded Nalla with his golden eyes. Torilla frowned. "Nalla. I have not gotten involved in anything other then show concern for your little one... If you see that as interference .... then I'm not sure of what to say to you."
Nalla grew quiet and just pet the dog beside of her. She was dubious of Torilla's claim but accepted the explanation just the same.
"My sister offered to watch my kid, should I ever need to go on a long term, hazardous mission." Nalla inwardly seemed happy about that thought. "She has two sons of her own, so it might be good, on occasion, to let Jake and mine's child live with my sister - When its older, that is."
Yamaguchi regarded the smaller woman as she slowly swayed from left to right in the chair, holding her silence. "Thats up to you.." as she slowly blinked. "Where is this hostility coming from... I have not said anything other then show concern about your unborn child but you call that interference." Yamaguchi then sighed softly as she shifted her attention from Nalla down to her desk. "Well... what can I say... In any event. I'm late for a meeting with Commander Falannar... " as she rose to her feet, she came around the desk and walked right past Nalla, all without looking at her. Torilla's opinion of Nalla had brought the two women to this point as Torilla now considered Nalla a direct threat to her husband.
