Mission: Mission 64: Mortal's Chiefest Enemy
Location: Various Locations - B Kayor Surface
Timeline: 1300Hrs - February 23rd, 2392

Major Bruce Fraser was seated at one of the outdoor cafeteria areas, underneath of of the massive tarpaulins that went across the street, which provided a great deal of shade in the day time and it also reflected the light from the ground level lighting at night.

He was thinking when he heard a female voice address him. "Scorch?"

"Mmm.." he shoifted his attention. "Oh hey Kelly... Whats up?" he inquired of the female Spartan who was even now walking over to him.

The Spartan female smiled down at him. "I was asking if I might join you for your meal."

"Mmm.. Ohh... oh. sure please do." Fraser responded as he indicated the chair across from him.

Kelly smiled as she sat down. "You thinking of those who fell?"

"Am I that obvious?"

"No... I was just guessing.." Kelly responded. "Can I assist with anything?"

"Just tell me my guys died for something and not because I ordered them to do it!" the words came out in a jumble.

"Yes Bruce, it was indeed worth it... Thanks to you, my fellow Spartans and I walk as free people for the first time in years.. We will honor your fallen and we will indeed remember who they were and why they died for us..."

"I see.." Fraser responded softly.

"You have my word on this Bruce.. Your friends and those you cared for did not die in vain... I am living proof of that.."

"I just.... I sometimes wonder."

"Thats normal... death is the fate of all of us my friend. Regardless of what we do or how we leave.. But your marines faced it and they said to the many faced god... Not today... and thanks to their sacrifices.. we are alive and free... otherwise the Klingons would have taken us all... and usd us as a weapon of war against the Federation and anyone else who would dare stand against them." Kelly smiled warmly at him. "That is never a bad thing."

Fraser nodded. "Yeah..."

"Like I said... We will remember your fallen.. When we are resettled to a new colony... We will name continents, towns, cities and mountain ranges after them.. "

Fraser smiled as he found the idea had appeal and merit. "Lets have something to eat."

"yes." Kelly responded as she rose to her feet, she turned as she ambled her way over to the replicators nearby as Bruce Fraser followed her, he found himself admiring her figure as Kelly turned her head to regard him. "Mmm.. Its a nice day isn't it?"

"It is, yes." Fraser responded as the two got in line for their food, there were always lineups at these public replicators. "You think the Federation will grant us citizenship.?"

Search regarded her. "Yes. I hope they do. But then it should never have been taken from you in the first place." he responded coldly. "I should look into why the Federation... I mean the humans among us have such a strong aversion to genetic engineering in the first place... I mean other species have done it and its worked out well for them...." he rumbled. "So.. What sets humanity apart from others.?"

Kelly regarded him as she shrugged, it wasn't out of lack of concern but rather helplessness. "I have no idea.." she responded evenly.

Scorch mulled it over as the two ended up at the front of the line, she placed her order and then he did likewise. They lifted their orders and retreated to their table. "Still... It is worth looking into.." Kelly said quietly.

"Yes.. Best place to do so is on Earth.." Scorch regarded her. "I've not been on Earth in years.." he admitted

"Are you even from Earth?" Kelly inquired with a smile as she cut herself a small piece of her food and she popped it into her mouth.

"No. I'm actually from Mars." Scorch responded as he went to start eating his food.

"Mars... such a quaint name... named for the Roman god of war I presume?"

"Yes... Mars isn't a bad world, its just dry and empty of life." Scorch explained. "However for those who were born and raised there. Its not a bad world... It just needs taming like any other world where humanity did not evolve.. But then its not like Earth is really any better.." the Marine shrugged his shoulders.

"Indeed it is not Scorch." Kelly responded. "Hopefully they get our paperwork issues resolved and then we can become useful or we can go our own way and start something for ourselves."

"I can hope... Besides freedom is the right of all sentient beings.." Scorch responded. "I'll see to it that my fallen marines are remembered for their actions and deeds."

"Know that your men will be remembered by the Spartans for as long as we exist." Kelly responded with a smile. "We will honor them. The living and the dead..."

"You are too kind." Scorch sighed softly.

"You're men gave so much for us.. They died so we could live free.. " Kelly responded. "They gave up everything for us.. We owe them for their sacrifices.." she regarded him with a measuring look.

"I was the one who-"

"Made their losses mean something. Besides.. We're still here and the Spartans are still human, even if we were created in a lab somewhere."

"I've always believed in having an open mind... True humanity doesn't reside in one's DNA, it resides in one's actions and their deeds.." Scorch responded. "To me... it matters not where the blood comes from, its what one does with it... Are they worthy of being called human...or are they just poor imitations?"

"I wish more thought as you do Scorch.."

"You can call me by my name and not my callsign.." Fraser responded with a smile. "I'm Bruce Fraser..."

The Spartan female smiled. "I am Kelly Yamaguchi." she responded. "The woman you know as April Yamaguchi is my mother.."

"April has good taste in men." Fraser commented with a smile.

Kelly blushed gently as she inquired. "What of you... Do you have a family?"

"No. No mate or children... I'd like to fix that someday... but I never really found time for it... I'm sure she's out there somewhere."

"Indeed, she is.." Kelly responded with a smile before she indicated the food between the two of them. "What do you say we eat together... and see there things go from there.?"

"Sure.. I have no plans." Scorch responded with a smile.
