Meeting More of My Kin - Part Three

Mission: Mission 63: Second Nature
Location: Planet Surface - B Kayor
Timeline: 1400Hrs - February 7th, 2392

Commander Celeste Yamaguchi walked into the large medical complex that still stank of cleaning supplies and building materials, she went over to the front desk. "Hey. you guys still collecting DNA samples from the evacuees?"

Agar Kemoke was one of the people on desk and he was looking rather ragged, " Yeah, and we have a whole backlog on the process, what is it?"

"I have another forty samples for you... There are a lot of orphans out there.. Would you guys objected if I took three of them home with me?" she inquired. "Who do I see for that?"

Agar wasn't even sure how to answer that question, causing him to shrug. "I have no idea, as far as i know the Akurians haven't even set up any policies regarding adoptions yet. Hell, we have barely started the sorting process to try and return lost kids to their parents so we don't even know whom is orphans and whom isn't."

"Well... Considering that hundreds of thousands of Ferasians are showing up literally by the hour... I expect that this is going to get daft." she paused as she breathed out and then back in again. "Sorting out the refugees from those that have families to those that don't I see getting very... complex." as she handed over the sample container. "Go ahead and add these to the system and see what you get."

Agar took the case and handed it off to one of the Aides, then he replied," Well I heard that Nevanzi and several of the senior medical officers are considering starting up a temporary foster care system so we have time to get these children back to their families."

Celeste nodded. "Alright. Thats fine... I can foster a few and if their families turn up... then I can hand them over.... but if not then I am prepared to adopt.." she explained.

Agar nodded, then replied. "So is there anything else. Because I do have about forty or so children in the next room that could use some attention for the next few hours."

"No.. thats it." Celeste responded. "I'll help you with them." she added.

Agar nodded then pointed at one of the open doors. "They are in there. Arumi Akavai is the only one watching them right now.

Celeste went into the room where thirty of so Ferasian children all sitting around, not doing a heck of a lot. "Alright.."

Arumi was near the back of the room, where she was still bathing a few of the children, then taking the time to brush their fur. She didn't even notice Celeste's presence.

Celeste opened her PADD. "Hello kits.." she announced herself to the room. "How is everyone doing today?"

One of the Ferasian kids, a leopard type, commented, "We got a bath today."

Arumi looked over at Celeste, commenting. "Yeah a number of them had flea's and lice, but not anymore now." As she pulled the last kid out of the bathtub and started toweling her off.

Celeste smiled. "I'll here to give you a hand... or paw." she commented to Arumi. "How can I best assist?"

Arumi handed Celeste a hair brush, "most of them haven't been brushed yet, so if you could take care of that."

Yamaguchi nodded before she selected the closest child to her. "Alright, come on over here and I will brush you." she sat down on the ground in front of the Caitian kits before she gently began brushing the first child that came to her.

The child, an 11 year old snow leopard female, didn't protest, however her fur was quite matted and not particularly easy to brush. But she did comment," yeah we don't get baths very often."

"Well that will change... along with a great many things starting now." Celeste responded with a smile as she brushed out the mats, one at a time. "This might hurt a bit."

Arumi finished drying off the last one, whom was a cheetah cub female of no more than 5 years old. She then took a look around the room, the kids ranged from as young as 2 years up to about 12 years. Most definitely look better after a bath but their conditions ranged from relatively healthy to pretty sickly. Fortunately none where in dire need of medical care.

However the one that Celeste was brushing winced when she accidentally ran the brush near a not fully healed injury. The child couldn't help but run her hand over the injury on her lower back, which was bleeding a little.

"Hey.. Arumi. Toss me a medkit please... I found some bleeding here from this little one." she commented. "Mmmm..."

Arumi picked up the medkit, which was nearly empty and gave it to Celeste. "Yeah, needless to say the Klingons where not kind, even to the little ones. We have been running through medical supplies like crazy."

Celeste nodded. "The Klingons need to die in the most brutal manner I can devise." she responded dryly as she tended to the wound. "I brought my own medkit... but I've used more from my own stores in the last two days then I had in the previous six months.." she added as she finished healing the small wound.

One of the Ferasians began to cuddle with Arumi, prompting her to comment. "Yeah I don't see how the Klingons could treat these people like this."

Celeste paused. "I could." she admitted as she let out a sigh. "I don't want to think about Klinks.." as she gently began to brush the fur of her second child.

The snow leopard child Celeste had finished brushing earlier tried to cuddle with her while Arumi mentioned. "Yeah don't be afraid to hug them, they do need the comfort."

Celeste gently hugged the child close. "We'll find your family out there sweetie." as the small child buried her head into Celeste's chest. "and if not then we'll find you a good home." as she found herself being surrounded by several Ferasians, all wanting a good hug. "What can I say... I'm here for the duration."
