Calling Paris
Posted on Thu Mar 5th, 2020 @ 2:39am by Captain Kalandra "Kassie" Paris & Lieutenant Kadian Paris & Fleet Captain William Paris
Mission:
Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1100Hrs - December 25th, 2391
Ensign Kadian Paris was taking the day off for obvious reasons, because she is part Human and the holiday of Christmas is still quite large on this date in some families, especially those with children.
Paris for her part smiled as she thought of her parents, she loved them and she also missed their presence and company, especially when her father was adamant that the Federation child services would not be taking his eldest daughter into care because the fact that him and his wife were on assignments which children were not permitted. William decided that he was sticking his foot down on the matter and that was the end of the discussion.
William Paris risked his assignment and his career for his daughter so he decided his daughter was more important to him and he caved, the Captain's threats to his career became worthless simply because William was willing to throw it all away for his daughter.
The elder Paris was separated from Kassie for years, far too many in the opinion of her father because of various assignments but he would be reunited with his wife about eight years later, other then shore leaves together, the two deciding that they would never be separated again for any reason, also in that time Kassie and William would go on to have Julian and James, a set of male twins and later a girl named Heather. After the two were reunited on assignments, they would go on to have a third girl named Stephanie and a forth girl named Nicole. The family's greatest test came four years earlier when Kassie miscarried.
It was quite a traumatic blow from which she and Will both decided that six children was enough as it was and both began taking medication to reduce their chances of becoming pregnant again.
Kadian smiled as she sat down at the computer terminal in her room that she shared with another officer who she was still getting to know. An Orion woman who was quite a looker but a little shy on brains.
The com system beeped. "Ensign Paris." it intoned as if it were the harbinger of her doom or something. "You have an incoming subspace call."
Paris tapped her display. "I'll take it here."
"Understood, routing it to you now."
Paris regarded the screen, a smile appearing on her face as an image of her father appeared. "Kadian... How are the flowers blooming?"
"Well nobody's dead yet." Kadian responded in a deadpan tone.
"Thats promising?" the elder Paris regarded his eldest daughter. "You mom sends her regards by the way."
"Thats nice Dad.... Despite your antique humor." she commented as the computer beeped at her. "You have an incoming private message from the USS Tribal."
Kadian smiled. "Mom's calling me."
"Nice!" the elder Paris responded with a smile.
Kadian rose to her feet as she went over to the wall monitor, she then tapped it once. "Computer, merge the two transmissions and lets all see each other.
The face of her mother appeared before her, mom looked older then Kadian herself yet she had a lighter skin tone and had blue eyes but she had the same build as her daughter and sometimes was even confused for Kadian.
This was something that Kassie had never gotten used to, being confused for her daughter. "Hey Kadian." she smiled warmly at her daughter, alongside her was the various remaining children of the Paris family. James and Julian regarded their older sister. "Hey Kadian... you still alive?"
"Hey.." Kassie muttered. "Julian behave yourself."
Kadian's response was simple and to the point. "No... I'm actually dead and you are hallucinating. I warned you those drugs would rot your brain."
Kassie regarded her son. "Julian.... Drugs?" she inquired as she raised an eyebrow.
William Paris regarded the entire conversation with amusement. "Julian... answer your mom's question."
"I'm not taking drugs mom... seriously Kadian..."
"You were the one who asked.... Clearly I am alive and well.." Kadian responded in a deadpan tone of voice.
James simply smiled but added. "Hello Kadian, merry Christmas."
"Hello James." Kadian responded, she had always gotten along better with James then she had with Julian. "Merry Christmas to you too."
James regarded his eldest sibling. "So... Where are you assigned these days?"
"I'm assigned to the Roanoke as a trauma specialist, I also get to do research."
James looked puzzled for a moment. "Roanoke... I know that name.... isn't she the?"
"Yes... she is."
"How'd you get that assignment?" Kassie inquired. "That ship is generally reserved for the useless, unwanted and worthless.."
"You're information is out of date mom, this ships crew are turning her reputation around with all of these colonial support assignments. The colonies love this ship, her crew and the rest of her battlegroup."
"Ahh... I didn't know." Kassie responded.
"Its fine mom, I'm used to explaining myself to various people." Kadian explained. "Besides... He has a decent crew from what I've seen and they know their business... They are a hard luck group." she explained. "People who have been shafted one too many times or they screwed up... They aren't criminals or malcontents.."
"Just... answer me one thing." William Paris interrupted.
"Yeah?" Kadian responded to her fathers comment with one of her own.
"Are you happy there?"
"Yes." Kadian answered after considering it for a moment. "I am."
"Then thats all that needs to be said... We will let it alone until you decide otherwise okay?"
"Thanks dad." Kadian responded evenly and it was her father who often resolved disputes rather then her mother. "So... whats new with all of you guys?"
