Mission:
Mission 57: The Northern Lights
Location: Various Locations - USS Dreamcrusher
Timeline: 1000Hrs - December 25th, 2391
Commander Duval Mia was heading down the hallway towards her next destination, as she was on leave she didn't really have anywhere she herself needed to be, her family was busy having a Christmas lunch but she wanted to get some work done while everyone else sat around, opened gifts and generally had fun on Christmas, a festive occasion she knew little about as she was Bajoran so she didn't celebrate it like her husband did.
Duval was not a small woman like some were, she weighed in at a hundred and forty pounds and she stood in at five foot and ten inches tall as she wore the uniform well.
She suddenly heard her name being called as another woman came over to her. "Mia...?"
"Lia... What are you doing here?" Duval asked of her old friend softly.
"I'm here as this ships Chief Intelligence Officer.... I didn't expect to run into Anthony again..."
Duval sighed softly. "Are you two still fighting about that?"
"It was my fault.." Circe responded with a soft sigh. "I said things I shouldn't have said... and I was out of line."
"You two were just getting into a friendship and along comes a child that was Anthony's but he didn't know... How was he to know?" Duval inquired. "The woman he slept with didn't tell him and she had no other family so when she got killed. Starfleet Child Services had no choice really in the matter.."
"I know... I wish I had the chance to go back and fix things..."
"You can't change the past but.... Maybe you still have a chance to restore the future you wanted with him..... Or do you still want that chance?"
"How?" Circe responded quietly. "He won't give me the time of day?"
"Thats not true..." Duval responded. "I happen to know he still carries a torch for you."
"How?" Circe asked softly. "After everything I said... After what we did and said to each other."
"That is a three edged sword Lia, You.. Him.. and the truth which is always somewhere in the middle." Duval explained. "There is always hope."
"Your an optimist.." Circe sighed. "I'd forgotten what you're kind were like.."
"I have to... I got four children and a husband who loves me.." Duval responded. "Even if half the time he just wants to have his way with me in bed."
"That can't be a bad thing... right?"
"Nah." Duval responded. "Never a bad thing..." Duval added as the two women went into the range.
The Range officer nodded to Duval. "Commander Duval. We got things set up for you over here."
Duval nodded as a smile crossed her lips. "Sounds good." as she went over to where the firing station was located, the range officer looked at the other woman. "I'm sorry Lieutenant,. I didn't know others were looking to qualify."
"I'm not." The yellow eyed woman responded quietly. "I'm here as moral support."
Duval regarded the range officer. "Okay... what are the requirements?"
"Okay. you get fifty shots, you are permitted to miss ten of those, to pass your final certification requirements for basic weapons training." as the man handed her a phaser sidearm. "Its set so all you have to do is aim and shoot."
Duval raised an eyebrow. "I understand."
"Are you prepared?" he then released the first set of forty drones.
"Yes. Lets do it." Duval then lifted her sidearm as she took aim, drilling one of the four drones on the very first shot. Circe watched in silence as her old friend drilled drone after drone. Before long it was clear that Duval easily possessed the skills for basic firing.
The safety officer likewise agreed that the senior ranking woman was good to go. "You missed with one shot. Impressive. I'll update your paperwork Commander. Fine shooting."
"Thank you." Duval smiled.
Circe smiled. "Congratulations."
"Thanks." Duval responded before she took her leave of the range. Circe following in silence before the two women go down the hallway and then into a turbolift. "So... Breakfast then?"
"I'll talk to Anthony... Thats all I can promise alright..?"
"Alright." Circe responded softly. "Thats I can ask.."
