The Night is Dark

Posted on Tue Mar 3rd, 2020 @ 1:37am by Commander Ennis Cullen & Lieutenant JG Rachael "Ripcord" Yamaguchi-Cullen

Mission: Mission 51: Warchild
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 0300Hrs November 22nd. 2391

Rachael Yamaguchi's eyes flickered open as she let out a soft sigh, it had been the same thing for the last three nights and she was seeing the effects of it. "Mmmm.... god this... sucks.." she moaned softly before she shifted her position.

Rachael was wearing a pair of shorts and a tank top, her usual sleepwear as there were two preteens in the house. Both could be crafty and devious when they felt the need and every now and again. Daniel got fussy so she found the best way was to wear something rather then nothing, that way if Daniel climbed into bed with his dad and her, he wouldn't touch anything that he didn't need to touch.

Rachael also ensured that the door was locked, she found it was the best way to keep prying eyes out as Saki had a rather unhealthy interest in sex.

"Hmm?" Ennis asked groggily.

"I can't sleep." Rachael moaned softly.

"Me either," Ennis agreed, sat up, and hugged Rachael. "But it's easier to be around you."

Rachael regarded Ennis. "It only started in the last week or so..." she paused as she regarded him. "Do you remember your dreams at all?"

"Some..." Ennis was hesitant. He did not want Rachael to feel as if Olivia ghost was a strong presence. "I try not to think upon them a whole lot. Dreams come and go, as they say."

Rachael blinked her eyes slowly. "Mmmm..." she responded while she shifted her body to a new position. "But Ennis... It's been every night for over a week now... I'm concerned.." she responded gently.

"My heart knows Olivia would not want me to be unhappy... but my mind doesn't know that my heart wants you, I think," Ennis guessed with a resigning shrug.

Racheal smiled as she gently kissed him. "But you still miss her... and part of you still mourns her... I wish I could have known her..." she admitted. "I can look into the matter.... do you want to be there when I do?" Rachael inquired. "I want Sarah to remember Olivia as she was her mother, not I and I will not start thinking that I am entitled to be called 'mom' by Sarah. Daniel however... he'll never know her... " she let out a sigh. "If we name one of our daughters Olivia.... Will her family protest?"

"I think they would be honored," Ennis answered with a small choke in his voice. He was very touched by her sentiment.

"Alright... then we shall do that." Rachael responded. "She meant a great deal to you... and I aim to see to it out little girl will know who her namesake is.."

"Good," Ennis agreed with a bittersweet smile before he laid back down on the bed. "Olivia was a lot like you... adventurous, kind. She had a way with people. Exceptional nurse."

Rachael smiled. "Then... we'll remember and honor her properly." she smiled as she blinked her eyes slowly before she yawned. "Mmmm.."

"Thank you My Love." Ennis smiled as he hugged her once more before he decided to cuddle with her before going back to sleep.

Rachael smiled. "Mmm" as she felt his arms encircle her. "We should address your sleeping issue.." Rachael gently kissed him on the lips. "Our children will inherit my abilities... but they won't be as strong as mine... In my dreams I can see your nightmares... Its quite surreal."

"They come and go, My Love... I know they occur because my mind thinks I'm hurting Olivia. But my heart knows Olivia would never want me to live unhappy," Ennis explained quietly and reverently.

"But... When you have nightmares... I live them." Rachael explained. "It might be worth talking to Lieutenant Stevens on the Roanoke about it... I hear she is quite decent.... When she's not hypnotizing people."

"I'm sorry I gave you such trauma," Ennis spoke wholeheartedly.

Rachael regarded him with a soft smile. "It'll be alright." she paused. "We'd both best get some sleep.... Sun is going to be up in a few hours and its going to be a very busy day."
