Down Comes the Final Curtain

Mission: Mission 49: The Stars Look Down
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1030Hrs - November 9th 2391

Flight Captain Keyan Fardreamer regarded his Starfighter, he gently ran his fingers over the name stenciled onto the fuselage as he realized that he would never feel the stick in his hands ever again.

"I'm going to miss you." Camshaft said aloud.

"I know how you feel." Warrant Officer Rachael Yamaguchi approached, a smile gracing her lips, her brown eyes twinkled with mirth. "My paperwork was submitted not that long ago myself."

"You too.?" Camshaft regarded the younger woman. "You worked so hard... with various issues along the way.... You have a gift Rachael." he regarded her as he hopped off of his old starfighter, landing on the deck without stumbling. "You fought for it."

"I have children now Keyan." Rachael shrugged. "I've been doing paperwork and studying so I can drive a ship." she slowly smiled. "Maybe someday I'll go to OCS and maybe I won't... I'm not going to rush headlong into it." she paused a moment. "I don't want to leave my babies without their mom." she smiled sheepishly. "You know what I mean right?"

"A good plan Rachael... For whatever its worth to you. I'll miss flying with you."

Rachael nodded, she knew he was leaving the ship. "Where you heading?"

"I'm going to study to become a science officer, we have a lacking of those in the battlegroup as it presently stands with her makeup."

Rachael smiled. "Any ideas on where you could study?"

"I'm not sure... I have my selection of various universities around the Federation.... Though I want something close and well protected... I could see myself doing classwork on Delta or Betazed..." he shrugged. "Who knows.. But when I come back... If I come back." he amended quickly. "I'll be wearing a Starfleet science uniform rather then fighter pilot blue."

"Alright... Well you best be going.... Time waits for nobody..." Rachael responded with a smile.

"Yeah." and with that the two of them shook hands before he turned and exited the hanger in silence, also he did it without looking back.

Rachael watched him go in silence, recalling the man he used to be when she first met him and as she recalled how he had grown over the time that she had known him. "I hope you do well... wherever the winds of fate take you Camshaft.." Rachael said aloud. "By the gods... I need a drink." and with that she turned and departed herself, following Camshaft;s echo out the door.
