..To the Grave

Posted on Mon Mar 2nd, 2020 @ 6:38pm by Division Admiral Thomas Lasky & Post Captain Keyan Fardreamer & Saki Yamaguchi-Cullen & Jillian "Phoenix" Sullivan

Mission: Mission 43: Acts of Contrition
Location: Various Locations - USS Roanoke
Timeline: 1500Hrs, October 5th - 2391

Saki Yamaguchi was sitting in the pilots chair of the new fighter. "Zara. Your avioniks checks out." she mangled the word as she was not used to pronouncing such fancy technical terms. "I didn't say that right... did I?" as she took a moment to look around at the main hanger bay, this was a place she had never been before, it wasn't as large as the pod which she honestly preferred but she wasn't about to say it aloud.

Shadow who had been sitting in her lap, simply purred happily, content with the attention she was getting with Cleo curled up in the RIO's chair. The dog was awake as she looked down at Zara, then she whined softly, letting Zara know in no uncertain terms where she was and that she demanded her mistresses attention right this moment.

Zara sighed with a grin. "I should never of let you sleep in my bed, Missy."

Saki reached over as she gently petted the dog. "Cleo... Come on over here.... I'm sure Shadow won't mind."

Shadow meanwhile regarded the dog as a curiosity as she peered at it with her yellowish green eyes.

Just then Lasky turned his head. "What the..."

Saki turned as someone ran across the hanger deck. "Oh no." Saki sighed as a landing fighter landed and turned the person running across into red paste, the eight year old watched in silence as all hell broke loose.

Meanwhile the landing pilot lost his temper over the com. "Guys. What the hell was that!"

"Foul deck, Foul deck.!" Zarloos said to all of the other birds. "Ninty Nine.-" which meant all spacecraft landing on USS Roanoke. "-add fifteen to your start time." which meant you'll be waiting awhile before you could land.

Camshaft, in a violent display of emotion shoved all the shit and drama aside to land his bird or he was going to die, within moments he had landed his bird and was now guiding her towards her usual parking spot. "Camshaft to Tower. Somebody wanna explain what just happened?!"

Whitepaw was the one whom answered, "you didn't see tha?t, you just ran someone over."

"Obviously." Camshaft growled angrily. "Why was the person running across the flight deck!?" he seethed as he tried to calm down. "That is what I want to know.."

"Teval? You better get up here," Zara spoke as she tapped her badge with concern. "Looks like one of your pilots committed stupidness."

Teval, whom was in his quarters at the time sighed and replied," Fine, but keep in mind, pilots are primarily Wukari and Phoenix's responsibility, with them being their own branch now."

"Stay in the cockpit," Zara told Saki as she made sure the engines were powered down completely. "And play domjat or something on the PADD. You don't need to see this."

Saki raised an eyebrow. "Zara... I saw things like this all the time, growing up."

"You've seen too much," Zara retorted as she reached for her fire-proof suit and began to pull it over herself. "Now do what I say and don't look up from that PADD."

Saki raised an eyebrow. "Okay." as she looked down at the PADD while Shadow hopped up and landed in her lap, she smiled as she began petting the cat. "Hey Kitty.... you bored?"

"You aint going in 'at," Phoenix barked to Tane as she the TG's CAG and damage crew came in. "Too dangerous."

"I'm going," Tane spoke fiercely as she put a mask on and followed Phoenix into the fray.

Saki merely shrugged before she tapped the release to close the canopy. "I'll just hang out in here with you two." she settled in to relax as Shadow curled up next to her and the dog curled up on her lap, within seconds Saki was asleep with music playing in the background.

Meanwhile Lasky sighed. "Shouldn't we call her family... have someone come collect Saki?" he said it to Phoenix who was within earshot.

"We should... But Saki comes and goes where she wants. And so long as she's not in danger, I trust Tane knows what she's dong," Phoenix shrugged. "Saki doesn't like playing with the kids in the task group all that much."

"I can't blame her." Lasky responded. "A lot of the other kids on the ship are all shit disturbers.." he sighed.

"Saki listens to Tane, it seems... She don't normally listen well to folks that aint her mom or Tory," Phoenix spoke as she secured her mask and got ready to help put the small fire out.

Lasky regarded Phoenix. "You missed a few things Jill." he responded quietly.

"Happens when ya get sedated," Phoenix remarked grimly on her way out the door. "At least Saki's found someone who can help 'er with her problems."

"Yeah..." Lasky responded. "Lets deal with this issue."

"What issue?" Phoenix asked in confusion.

"The landing mishap Jill." Lasky responded with an amused smile. "What, you forget why we're here already?"

"Long day," Phoenix retorted as she used protective gloves to pick up a hot piece of metal, then moved it to the side. "What was Camshaft doing?"

"Phoenix. Let me handle him.." Lasky responded. "We don't know what went wrong... could be pilot error.. could be someone else... take a deep breathe and calm down before something else goes wrong."

"I'm tired of writing DDLs for stupid things that happen to my guys," Phoenix spoke angrily and shouted to the damage crew, "Fire's out over here!"

"I know... I think we all are." he indicated everyone. "But before you scream at people, let me and Wukari talk to the right people.." he then tapped his combadge. "Lasky to Tower. Whos on duty?"

"Zarloos sir." came the response. "Don't yell at Camshaft... It wasn't his fault... It was more mine then his." came the response from Zarloos.

"It aint your fault either," Phoenix spoke crossly to Lasky. "Don' start that bullshit now. Ya don' wanna bring that negative stuff 'round your gal now."

"I'm not blaming myself for this." Lasky responded. "There was nothing I could have done anyway." he added quietly.

"Phoenix." Zarloos cut in. "I'm looking at the footage from the security cameras now... Garn was in behind one of the birds when he ran out... he had no time to avoid it, neither did Camshaft..."

"Great... just fucking great," Phoenix sighed irritably as she began to rip debris off the ground.

Lasky sighed. "He was a decent pilot... just unlucky.. bad time and bad place." he shook his head. "I'll handle the DDL." he added.

"Wukari may want to do it," Phoenix interjected as she ripped the fighter's wing off with her metal hand.

"Easy with that, Phoenix," Zara barked as she was helping the damage team clear the debris from an inflamed oil puddle, as it was cooled off.

Suddenly Camshaft popped the canopy of his fighter as he struggled to climb out, nearly falling out, catching himself at the last second he was able to some assistance to step onto Roanoke's deck plating. He yanked off his helmet before he threw up into it.

"Easy Cam," Phoenix spoke as she came over to him to comfort him. "It'll be ok."

Camshaft almost whimpered. "I...I killed... one... one of my... my own..." he coughed. "Fuck... I had no... no time..."

"It's ok," Phoenix soothed as she continued to hug him. "It aint your fault, Hun."

Camshaft was miserable as he hugged Phoenix. "I'm sorry, I'm,... sorry." as he slowly pulled himself together. "I didn't.... see him."

"I know..." Phoenix led him over to a stack of crates and just sat on them, holding the young man as she would one of the twins that needed comfort.

Lasky assisted with the damage control of the downed fighter as he kept one eye on Phoenix as she comforted Camshaft, it was a side of her he had heard of but had never seen until that moment. It actually made him smile.

"It aint your fault," Phoenix spoke softly. "Sometimes these things happen, an' they aint a reason for it."

Camshaft sighed softly as he blinked. "I know... it doesn't... mean I need... to like it."
